I’ld just say this - I’d rather a player with a great work rate and lesser skills who gives it all each week and has a high possession rate than a player who has all the talent in the world but only decides to show those talents sporadically and not every week, week in, week out.

That might work in an individual sense, but you won’t win jack shit if your philosophy is that all you need is 22 grunts that work hard. You need high end talent that can rise to the challenge when it’s required.

Zero Crows in the 22under22 final side.

Pretty pisspoor considering how many first and second round picks we've had since 2018.
Who is it chosen by? Most of these awards are a bit of a circle jerk. Missing out on that team doesn't diminish the progress of Fog, RT, Berry, Rachele and Soligo, just to name a few. Can't wait to get another pre-season into these guys under Burgess, Fog especially could kick 50+ next season if he can continue his form into 2023. Worrell is another that could make the team next season if he continues to progress. I think Butts has made it before, but obviously stalled a little this season.

The initial 40-man squad, which was selected by ex-Docker and Sun Michael Barlow with support from the AFLPA and Champion Data, was narrowed to 22, as voted by the fans.

Yeah right, probably says all it needs to about the validity of the award, it's basically just one blokes opinion and then a popularity vote. Up there with the mark and goal of the round nominations...

How come you didn't mention Jones, McHenry and McAsey?

Yes but if it were loaded with Crows players what would your reaction be? "See I told you we are awesome"

Did I ever say you needed 22 grunts? Yes you do need high end talent.

You need a balance of players in any side - have a look at each Premier.

You also won’t win shit with 22 players either with all the talent in the world if they have no application.

GWS are a good example of that at certain stages of their existence

came across this clip - Will Schofield voted Adelaide Oval his favourite AFL ground, mostly based on their impressive win/loss record there

interestingly he says that West Coast made a point of not lining up in their positions while NTUA was playing pre-game and so when the song finished and the crowd rose with the crescendo, they'd start walking to position then, taking out all of the energy of the song by the time the game actually started- pretty clever

The 22under22 side looks pretty fair to me, it's mostly going to be players taken in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 drafts. We botched 2 of those drafts, guys like Jones, McHenry and McAsey were never going to make the side
I think Tom Green unlucky.

I wouldn't swap Fog for either of those 2. Naughton is flaky, and King's goal kicking will lose more than he wins.
Interesting call here, it is speculative. I too would take Fog over both of them.

Accurate goal kicking is an absolute weapon, just look at what happened to Carlton missing the 8 by 1pt.

In the past two games, Curnow kicked 3.9, you give Fog 12 shots at goal, he is kicking close to 10 goals if not more.

Maybe they opted for players who performed well for 22 games, over a player who was utter shite at the start of the season - before bursting onto the scene with 12 outstanding games to finish the year? There's something to be said for consistency.

LOL

You are literally seething aren't you?

Per Sam Edmund on SEN - so the Cats just need to offer a late teens pick for a contract Hopper? Why can't we do that sort of thing and the media say it's fine? Yet here we are apparently having to pay 2 first round picks for an OOC Rankine.

Jacob Hopper (GWS)

“Targeted a long way out by Geelong.

“I think the Cats offer maybe a first-rounder for him and it’s done.

“Hopper’s 26 in February, he does have a year to run on that contract, but I think he’s the one the Cats are absolutely after.”

CROWS OUTNUMBER PORT IN ALL-OZ SQUAD

JON RALPH

THE Power may have taken bragging rights with a round 23 Showdown win – and finished above the Crows on the AFL ladder – but Adelaide has doubled Port’s nominees in the 2022 All Australian squad of 44. Veteran Adelaide forward Taylor Walker and midfield ball magnet Rory Laird were named, with young gun Connor Rozee the only Port Adelaide inclusion. Selectors could not find room for Sydney star Lance Franklin or Collingwood first-year defender Nick Daicos, despite expanding the squad from 40 to 44. The squad was selected ahead of Wednesday night’s AFL Awards, with 16 teams represented but no room for any players from Essendon or North Melbourne. Collingwood had three players – Brayden Maynard, Jack Crisp and Josh Daicos – selected in the initial squad. Carlton’s Sam Docherty also missed the squad, despite lobbying from his coach Michael Voss, who believed his rebounding defender was a lock for the starting 22. Essendon would feel Mason Redman had also made a case for a spot in the best 44 players, while Jordan Dawson’s outstanding first season at Adelaide was not recognised. Five Cats are in the squad in Mark Blicavs, Jeremy Cameron, Tom Hawkins, Tyson Stengle and Tom Stewart. The Demons had six players selected in the squad in Angus Brayshaw, Bailey Fritsch, Max Gawn, Steven May, Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca. Ed Langdon missed out for Melbourne after a quieter finish to the season. Oliver started the weekend only two votes behind Touk Miller and Lachie Neale in the AFL Coaches Association award and is a chance to leapfrog the pair to win his second straight Champion Player of the Year award. Franklin was snubbed despite kicking 50 goals in his 20 AFL games, along with 22 direct score assists and 142 score involvements. Tom Lynch, Walker, Cameron, Charlie Curnow and Hawkins are the five key forwards in contention for two or three key forward spots. The small forwards in contention for the All-Australian jumper are Charlie Cameron, Tyson Stengle, Bailey Fritsch, Shai Bolton, Isaac Heeney and Tom Papley. Richmond’s Daniel Rioli is a chance to push into the team as a rebounding defender, while St Kilda’s Cal Wilkie and West Coast’s Tom Barrass were rewarded for excellent seasons. Fremantle’s Andrew Brayshaw and Melbourne’s Angus Brayshaw are a chance to be named as the third brothers in the team in the same year, after the Madden and Cornes brothers. The league said in a statement the move from 44 to 40 players was to “recognise the leading players across all parts of the field – forwards, defenders and midfielders/rucks”

Furthermore, there were another two ex-Crows in the side.
