You will learn on Monday it was the wrong decision by the umpire.
I think your missing my point. I agree that technically the 50 is there, however, common sense prevailed.

He was no chance of kicking a goal from there.....ever. So even if he had heard the whistle the game was over.

If someone has a mark on the back of the square and the siren goes and people run around and celebrate it's not 50 for running through the protected zone.....because of common sense. Even though it would take them to goal kicking distance.

What I am saying though the player should have first waited till the umpire called full time for the game.

The umpire decides when the game has ended, not the siren.

I guess you have a point with the umpire calling time. However, I still think you are opening a Pandora's box. You could pay 50m after the siren for half the games.

The free kick wasn't even there. Justice as far as I'm concerned.
That is entirely possible and I dont disagree with this aspect.

However, the 50m definitely was once the free was given.

Posters can disagree, on Monday the right decision will be decided and it will be 50m should have been given.

It was 50m free all day every day.

You dont kick the ball into the grandstand if you dont hear the whistle. You kick it forward to score or kick it defensively to kill time. He kicked because he thought he won the game, but the game was still "alive". Game is "dead" when umpire calls time and puts his hands up to signal the end of the game.

Umpire was too gutless. Absolute shocking umpire decision.
The game was dead. Prestia was 70 from goal, and the siren had gone. It couldn’t possibly have affect the play.

Technically yes. But it was all split second stuff. If it was 50 then surely it would have been reversed because of 2/3 of the Richmond team showing dissent towards the umpire.
I'm calling sensible umpiring....I think

Forget technically.

It was there, it was 50m.

It doesnt matter what stage of the game is.

Richmond player has ball - gets tackled - drops ball - Richmond gets free kick for holding

Thats what frustrates fans more than someone kicking the ball out of the ground

I thought Jack was going to punch the umpire for not giving 50m.

It was hilarious that last 60s.

Still Dawson after siren is the epic all time end to a game in 2022.

By the letter of the law the 50 should have been paid as he'd whistled the free the siren went and then he kicked it over the boundary but to me it's against the spirit of the game to pay it so it was probably right in the end.
So the game isn't dead and the umpire can say the Swans player didn't hear the whistle like any free throughout the game but instead of a kick or handball in the field of play he kicked it to the stand with an "errant" kick.......this will be their "explanation".

No. Wrong. The game was not dead. The umpire is the one that decides when the game is dead. Not the siren.
I didn’t say the siren decided but Prestia had no time to pass the ball, and couldn’t score from that position. Warner kicking the ball did not disadvantage richmond in anyway.

Paying the 50 is not within the spirit of the game.

Plus, as has been pointed out elsewhere, why was the decision not reversed and several 50s not paid against Richmond for player dissent.

Honestly, the whistle goes almost concurrently with the siren. Swans player picks up the ball which is out of play anyhow and ecstatically kicks the ball into the stands celebrating the win. There was no play to slow down. No potential play to interfere with. The idea that it should have been 50m is absurd.

It doesnt matter, so every player should just boot the ball out of the ground? Is that what you are saying in the same situation again?

Kicking it out of the ground is not within the spirit of the game when the game is still "alive".

Wish the umpire had showed “common sense” two weeks ago when McHenry did the exact same thing after thinking we had a won a free kick only for Brisbane to get a 50 and goal at a critical stage of the game. Gotta love consistency.

It was 50m free under the rules of the AFL. Thanks.

And the rules regarding player dissent should have seen the free reversed and 50m given.

It’s not dissent pleading for a free kick. Otherwise we would have free kicks paid after every tackle when players call for holding the ball, or every time players throw thier arms out for a deliberate out of bounds.
