Two points .....If you go through the list of sponsors you could argue that half or more should be disassociated: alcohol, gambling, sugar drinks/fastfood, climate change, bank that got smashed at the Royal Commission.
The problem is that it is precisely the businesses that need to "sportswash" that see the value in doing so. Those that don't need to will be far less likely to write large cheques.
What do the finances look like then? Are the players all happy to trim back wages to make it work?
A) the Players can arc up about their Clubs sponsorship arrangements, because their wages are paid by the AFL and are guaranteed
B) If the Players feel so strongly, then great, have the sponsorship costs deducted from the players wages as you're suggesting ......watch that storm erupt
People always take the moral high ground .....and will do the right thing ....UNLESS it affects their pockets
