If you go through the list of sponsors you could argue that half or more should be disassociated: alcohol, gambling, sugar drinks/fastfood, climate change, bank that got smashed at the Royal Commission.

The problem is that it is precisely the businesses that need to "sportswash" that see the value in doing so. Those that don't need to will be far less likely to write large cheques.

What do the finances look like then? Are the players all happy to trim back wages to make it work?
Two points .....
A) the Players can arc up about their Clubs sponsorship arrangements, because their wages are paid by the AFL and are guaranteed

B) If the Players feel so strongly, then great, have the sponsorship costs deducted from the players wages as you're suggesting ......watch that storm erupt

People always take the moral high ground .....and will do the right thing ....UNLESS it affects their pockets

Just on the potential magic round it sounds like listening to Rucci this morning the way around us and Port not having a 'home ground advantage' is for them to play each other.

I don't really it get though as there won't be three showdowns so I presume one club still has it classified as a home game for ticketing.

He seems to think 9 games at Adelaide Oval is the way they would go.
The idea of having a showdown in magic round is stupid. They want big games and big crowds so why waste the 2 biggest drawing teams in SA to play each other. Clubs have sold home games before. They’ll just do it again.

I agree, happens all the time in Victoria. Melbourne play away games and neutral games at the MCG and no one has a problem with it.

I prefer having the games scattered. They said there might be one in the barossa.
Definitely have 4 at AO but I think that's enough.

Mining magnate Gina Rinehart pulls $15 million netball sponsorship amid 'virtue signalling' accusations

Elite netball in Australia is once again on the brink of collapse after mining magnate Gina Rinehart announced she was pulling her proposed $15 million sponsorship of the organisation and its elite squad, the Diamonds.

In a statement released early on Saturday afternoon, the company took a swipe at Netball Australia, saying it didn't want to add to their "disunity problems", and announced they would withdraw the proposal "effective immediately".

Great win for the players .....well done ;)

"An often conveniently neglected truth when activists talk emotively about mining is that most, if not all, of the primary products required for the equipment, production, distribution and delivery of renewable energy depend on resources that need to be mined."

Back to the 2017 GF, I attended, have never watched one second of it since and intend to die having kept that intact.

I was the same until last year. I watched the first half in full, then watched portions of the second half.

It was quite cathartic. We were very poor, but we were beaten by a monster side on their home deck.

As well as the primary products that make their game possible. Nobody is playing barefoot and nude, on grass courts, using woven balls and sun dials(not that I wouldn't encourage this direction).

Take note AFL before you give a voice to the woke crowd.

AFL get huge TV rights.

Main sponsor is Toyota.

They could easily piss off the betting companies if they had any integrity.

AFL won't ever have problems finding sponsors.

I’d put money on the effwits believing that there’d be no way the sponsorship would be pulled. Enjoy your pay cuts everyone.

Of course they didn't ....now the Diamonds are back-tracking, whilst taking a further swipe at Rhinehart at the same time ......"Oh, we didn't actually say what we actually said....you misunderstood"

Yes ladies .....any chance of a pay rise is now defunct ....in fact a pay decrease could be your Christmas present

With actions, come consequences !

If you have integrity, you do what the GWS player did and quietly withdraw from the game. I doubt they’d have had to plumb too far to get 7 onto the court and a couple of reserves that would wear the sponsors clobber.

These corporations get little from this, it’s a donation and if you don’t want it, then some other NFP or charity will willingly accept it. And now any future sponsor can’t trust NA’s ability to abide by contract terms. They should have just stood down every player who refused. They had a contract with Hancock, they had a contract with the players, whoever breaches should be punished.

Hancock Prospecting are key sponsors of swimming australia. Gina saved their backsides, made it possible for their elite swimmers to properly train so Australia could enjoy such high levels of success at the last Olympics.

But Netball Australia are too good for her money.

I hope they go bankrupt. Which they probably will.

Unless the Labor government steps in to save them. Which they probably will.

Rinehart still sponsoring other sports without apparent athlete intervention ....does she hold influence, or gain any leverage from these sponsorships .....no

Rinehart and Hancock sponsor many other sports, including the the Australian Olympic Committee, Volleyball Australia, Rowing Australia, Synchronised Swimming Australia and Swimming Western Australia.

If the outcome of a review is "this guy can't coach, but our list is s**t and we suck" you don't just sit there and keep the coach because there are bigger issues.

You sack the coach, sack list management, try again.

What St Kilda did is ruthless and what a club aiming for success should do
You don’t resign a coach and then review. This is pathetic. Also, their list is horrendous and that’s not on ratten . Being ‘bold’ is not always ok if the thinking behind it is as shaky as this appears . Saints are a basket case

Go woke - go broke.

Well done Gina, the ungrateful hypocrite Netballers can gone find $15m elsewhere.
I think any other business or philanthropist will steer well clear of Netball Australia.

If someone does step up, their history and background would be interrogated to the nth degree by journos and social media looking for a gotcha. Not worth the effort.

My understanding is they don’t have funding to continue the national comp - and this deal was the saviour. There may well not be Superleague netball next season unless government come to the party

What corporate would step in now that has zero skeletons in the closet?
How do miners get financing for projects - there goes the banks.
How do telcos put up the infrastructure they need to connect the world? There goes the telcos
What are cars made out of - including the electric
Let’s not start on gambling, fast food, alcohol products

The list of companies that have that sort of money is very very thin - Netball should have stood the players down until the issue was resolved

This is the ultimate problem and why its a slippery slope. Anyone can now construct a personal moral 'issue' with just about anything... where do you draw the line?

Its breath-taking naïve arrogance from these netballers, running an elite level competition requires elite level of commercial funding and sponsorships. The competition isn't going to run on feelings, vibes, kumbaya.

A mate of mine in Perth was saying that some 'influential' people associated with Fremantle are not happy about Woodside's sponsorhisp with them. :drunk:

They can’t even get their story straight.

It’s climate change?

No it wasn’t, it was racism.

Our only indigenous player (ever as far as I know) didn’t want to wear a guernsey with HP on it.

First, HP have said they wouldn’t appear on the guernsey.

Second, way to throw the indigenous player under the bus.

The real losers in all this are the thousands of young girls who look up and aspire to become a professional netballer. All because of the warped need for some to put politics in sport
