That’s always been the message but I’m not too sure.

The fact that we rolled over with such harsh penalties about a week after the news broke suggests there was more at play. Crows and the AFL didn’t want the facts to come out so they settled quickly. Crows got their punishment for cheating and AFL maintained the competition is fair and wasn’t actually compromised. Move along nothing to see here.

That doesn’t happen over a ‘clerical error’.

a very well respected poster here told me that the AFL had accepted our 1st year of draft picks and on top of that Trigg and Reid were to be terminated plus the financial penalties. Trigg refused to go and threatened to bring the board along with him. This was passed onto him by a board member at the time. Our crime was as stated at the time, we weren't able to play ball with the sackings so had to wear further draft penalties.

Nah they were the facts. The issue was the crows didnt want it dragging into the season moving forward and neither did Tippetts management. The AFL agreed to do it quickly and abided by the requests of all parties. The fact we accepted harsher penalties than we needed compared to other clubs suggests our eagerness to roll over quickly cost us far more than we needed. Had we fought for the facts and didnt offer up sanctions in all likely hood we probably would have not received such a penalty because we paid Tippett no more than the cap allows. Didnt Reid and another get suspensions as well? We no doubt would have received a suspended penalty for breach of the cap processes while the guilty people would have still received their suspensions.

the reason stated above is pure fantasy.

No idea if that’s true but it’s consistent with how our board and Trigg performed afterwards. Whole thing cast a long shadow. We’re still suffering a bit.

Yes, but still around the mark if they can keep up the manic pressure. I'm not going to wish injuries on them though, that's not cool. Let's hope they stay healthy AND lose

Lets not forget in 2006 we were 14-2 after 16 rounds and we didn’t even get to a GF. 😞

A long way to go but yes they are in a good position for a tilt at a flag.

I find myself desperately hoping for a Collingwood premiership now..such a Sophie’s choice. Did see some interesting stat the other day that something like only 1 premiership winner in the last 6 years was in the top 2 in Rd 13…can only hope that form holds…
It's even better, only 1 premiership winner from the last 8 years that have been top 2 in round 13 and that was Melbourne in 2021, all the others have either had prelim losses or been runner ups. 7 of the past 20 teams that have been top 2 after 13 rounds went on to win the premiership so that means and total of 13 teams failed to win it being in that position. That's enough to tell you that there's a long way to go yet until September and yes Port are in a good position but easy to get complacent with that level of comfort.

Its not often that a 19 year old kid comes into an AFL environment and has such a huge impact on a club. The addition of Horne-Francis to Port's list has had an extraordinary and positive effect on the entire playing group. As recently as last year Port looked and played like a team resigned to the fact that they had missed their premiership window and were just playing out games waiting for the inevitable sacking of coach Ken Hinkley. Not now. Something has clicked down at Alberton and it would appear that Port's resurgence has coincided with JHF's arrival. His skill and physicality around the contest is reminiscent of a young Dangerfield and with the right management this kid could become one of AFL's all time greats. Keeping him focussed on football will undoubtedly be Port's biggest challenge as there is still an underlying disapproval of the kid (rightly or wrongly) by opposition supporters and some players who seem intent on getting under his skin. Ports newfound self belief and confidence is growing by the week as it rapidly stampedes towards two home finals and its first GF appearance in 16 years. With JHF's bull like presence at stoppages players like Rozee and Butters are now discovering more time and space to carve up opposition midfields. As a Crows supporter you cannot help but compare our current playing list to that of of our crosstown rival and just wonder where in the hell did we go wrong.

I'll tell you where we went wrong, stating the obvious but drafting has been our big killer and I am afraid three good drafts in 2020, 21 and 22 are not enough to eradicate the horrendous drafting before that. Even if Port don't make it this year, you just know they will go out and aggressively trade in a kpd and whatever else they gave their sights on. I just feel our team really lacks that aggressive edge as well like Port have.

Another opinion on this decision last night.

That might be correct, but it’s a difficult call for a field umpire to see the block, ball and goal line at the same time. They’ve clearly seen the mechanics, which was definitely a free kick and paid based on that. That said, I’m not aware of any other free kick rules that are suspended just because the ball is effectively dead. Has that person quoted any particular rule? If it is a rule, which I doubt, I wonder if they could goal review over where the ball was when the block occurred.

5 on a small forward, regardless how good at it, is also horrific use of capital, especially considering our midfield. Laird, Sloane and Keays are again our 3 out of our 4 prime movers.

They didn't reference any rules. Their bio claims that they're an AFL accredited umpire. I have no idea whether or not that is true.

It does if you're an absolute coward looking to protect your career. Who knows, maybe a Carlton CEO position could come along if you're REALLY compliant.

And Port's next 4 games are very winnable. Geelong next will be the toughest but that is at home and you think Port should win that and Essendon at MCG, Gold Coast at home should be an easy win and Carlton at Docklands should all be winnable. And then the test vs Collingwood, win that and they will certainly win the minor premiership with a 18,19 or 20 win season. Then the true test is the finals, there are no guarantees in the 9th month of the year and you need to earn it.

Lol you should admit you're actually a supporter of a different club.

Every one of your posts have been trolls and attacking the club. Every single one.

There are four umpires out there.

The point of having the four umpires is to cover more angles. See more of the play to get more decisions correct.

If they don't do that, and I agree with you in this instance they didn't, what is the point of having four out there?

Ours are winnable too, apart from the Pies game.

Essendon away is the big one for us. Not sure why but we usually reserve our worst performances for the middling sides.
