I think an enormous amount rests on some of the young guys on their list like Sinn, Jackson etc ( and some of the young talls too) if that group can't throw up some regular player's then the depth is thin as you say.

How much did they give up for Sinn again...

Effectively more than we gave up for Curtin.

Everyone says their midfield is the absolute key.
Butters, Rozee, Drew, Wines, Houston played 25/25 games last season.
JHF & Bergmann 24/25.
One or two serious injuries to this midfield group and they are badly exposed, literally have no-one to replace them.

Curtin is a 197cm key defender that we hope becomes a midfielder, Edwards effectively a first year second rounder and Dowling a second year 3rd rounder. Pinning hopes on kids like these to add to our midfield is humorous, especially when comparing them to Port's group of 6. Crouch and Laird playing together again is yuck.

And next year they only have a 2nd round draft pick and a third round draft pick. No first or fourth.

How are they going to build their list?

I mean from our perspective its great but there is pain to come for them. They will look back and see that 2020 and 2021 were the equivalent of our 2005 and 2006.

What will hurt them is this obsession to continually seek trades to stay in the 8. They made a huge blunder that will cost them top end talent until the end of 2025. Unless they trade someone out who gives them a first round selection. But they will surely be forced by the AFL to have a first round selection in 2025 which means they will not be able to trade it for another missing piece.

Can't deny that they have built a really solid best 22. But seldom do you get through a season playing your virtual best 22. Injuries occur, poor form, etc

But depth is the issue and it falls away very quickly into the development zone. Which means if they haven't built the worlds best list of 40 players they will almost certainly feel the pain.

They've been getting a bit of practice of playing without Dixon over the last 2 seasons. He's spent around 50% out injuried

Will be a fascinating how this plays out in say 4 or 5 years time.

Lets not forget, two teams turned down Eagles F1 for Curtin.

If the Eagles have a healthy list, I think their F1 will be a Top 5 pick. I havent looked carefully at their draw to determine how many potential wins they could get in 2024.
