I’ve had mates head over for gather round and said it was incredible. I think it picks up next year before dropping off a bit the year after
Although if they can really integrate the whole Barossa thing into it, it could have some legs for a while. Be like having the Margaret River region integrated into here (apologies to the Swan Valley). An extra dimension for the punters, plus all the head honchos get to regularly schmooze with booze on the company account.

Wa really need to develop their league stadiums/grounds before bidding. Joondalup, Leederville, Mandurah all meh.
Be pretty cool to develop Fremantle Oval to suitable viewing.

The even better prospect is to develop a grandstand/standing area to allow 8,000 capacity for Subiaco Oval. Would be nostalgic/

yeah that would be good, what even is subi now? apartments and used for a school i thought?

would east freo be capable of hosting afl? havent been there in years

The WACA wouldn't take much to get up to a standard that it could host gather round matches imo. Not all that long ago it hosted international cricket so there's some decent facilities there. Has been used for WAFL in the last year.

I'd personally love it attending a game at the WACA on Saturday afternoon and walking across the bridge to our game on a Saturday night.

I'd also love to watch sport at the WACA again with an actual crowd in attendance.

Turning into apartments and extension to the school. Unfortunately.

Claremont would’ve been a good idea, but the same thing with apartments and development around the ground

Darcy Moore at the ceremony with Winmar at Victoria Park tonight. That’s some leadership.

If you were looking to maximise it as a destination event, Freo Oval, Mandurah and Swans/Lilac Hill would be the prime candidates for upgrades (if you were investing). Bunbury would be leader of the pack as far as rural options go, given it's less than 2 hours away, a good size and a launchpad to Busselton-Margaret River region.

If AFL games can be played at Norwood with it's 3900 seat and 10,000 capacity then AFL games can be held this weekend at Joondalup with it's lights and 16,000 capacity, Fremantle Oval etc.

They just play the big games Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday at Optus.

OPTUS Thursday night - Optus WC v Collingwood
JOONDALUP Friday afternoon - Brisbane v GWS
OPTUS Friday night - Carlton v Sydney
FREO OVAL Saturday - North v GC
OPTUS Saturday afternoon - Adelaide v Bulldogs
OPTUS Satuday night - Fremantle v Essendon
OPTUS Sunday - Hawthorn v Port Adelaide
JOONDALUP Sunday - Geelong v St Kilda
OPTUS Sunday evening - Richmond v Melbourne

That's the same structure as Adelaide

Can we shoot that Friday afternoon slot to the moon? Should only exist on Good Friday and the occasional ANZAC Day that happens to fall on a Friday. One thing the slot has in favour in Perth I guess is the ability to start both games later.

Also the WACA is clearly the second best venue in Perth. Literally just need to grow some grass at each end.

The WACA is currently a giant sand pit, since the Prindiville and Inverarity Stands were demolished.

I think Mineral Resources Park is more likely to host a game of AFL than the WACA ground and I don't think that's going to either.

Almost all of the WAFL grounds can match Norwood for ability to host. If that's the standard they're comfortable with, we can match it with what we have without converting a cricket field and pitch for two games of AFL.

It's clearly not about reserved seating attendance for the AFL.

The WACA redevelopment includes increasing the playing area with the intention of hosting football games. Not sure what the plan is for the pitch.

Interestingly it is now costed at $154 million compared to initial estimates. Shows how much these things cost and the idea of redeveloping WAFL grounds (even on a smaller scale) for gather round is ludicrous.

i havent' seen an AFL game since they reorganized the ground but back when fremantle used to play at the WACA it was brilliantly quick football but the problem was you were so far away from the action!

West coast’s fault.
No colts, no reserves, no structures in place for promotion of youth like normal WAFL sides.
Glad Fremantle stood by Peel for this reason

Its also their fault for keeping a list that is still 50% dads army. They sign guys like Yeo, Shuey, NikNat, Hurn up on multi year deals and then throw their arms in the air when they get injured and claim its "just bad luck" when those blokes have been injury prone for multiple years. Its part of their ongoing delusion they can "surprise everyone" with their results.

Definitely a bit of schadenfreude from us but you know... **** em.

Hi all,
Quick change of subject, apologies if there is another thread for this:

I'm currently in Perth on my honeymoon (first time here), obviously had to slip in a Freo game whilst here.

Just wondering what pubs or bars are the go to before the game?

Many at Crown, then you have the Camfield next to the ground, the Royal in East Perth (great walk over the bridge to the game), they're the ones I've visited pre-game anyway.

With the new stadium not having much around it directly the big one is the Camfield, but if you want a nice stroll across the bridge the pubs in East Perth like the Royal are quite nice pregame. East Perth gets a bit quiet on a Friday night so after the game either the Camfield or catch a train to the city and head to Northbridge. Pica bar and Alabama Song on a Friday night are always fun and they're right next to the train station
