I don't think we should be crowing about the Tiges going down to Brisbane given how we went against GWS. Our loss was much, much worse and we didn't sit back and accept that our season was over.

What Freo does in no way effects our ability to assess other teams. What you are saying is equivalent to fans of premiership teams claiming they know more about footy than everyone else. It doesn't follow.

The Tigers stuff, for me at least, is a direct response to the media getting excited about a team that has won 6/15 games this season.

I'm willing to put our loss in the bye basket.

I think Tigers would have lost regardless, and probably comfortably, but I think you can somewhat attribute the margin to the bye as well.
they got absolutely schmacked in the middle, which is interesting because thats where the tigers got us. bolton and cotchin probably had season high games.

shows how if your off by a bit the margins in the middle can look atrocious, though in fairness they were missing prestia and dusty was out for illness so possibly the whole team might be off

Taranto was well down and I think a big part of that. Rumour was he had the flu.

I didn't think they'd get within 4 goals but I think there is something afoot with them going down by 80.

they had been playing very well. got within 10 points of port, couple wins in a row. They were always going to lose to brisbane at the gabba but 80 points was weird. similar to our gws loss. there was no reason why we should have lost like that after a month of very good footy.

They were for about a month there in the same way were pre-bye, but they've lost a lot of games already this year for a reason.

The whole logjam from 5-15 is full of teams who aren't good consistently.

In order to limit scoring against, why can’t the Eagles just Concede the 6-6-6 free kick in the middle and just flood the back line?

They’d still lose, but if they’d done it last week it would have likely been by significantly less due to fwd line congestion.

(Genuine question - could they do that or would other sanctions apply?)

I don't see that as the inference at all. The point was that the suspension for the Lewis hit saved the AFL the embarrassment of Fyfe getting top voting in the Brownlow (as he would've had two more games to earn the extra vote/s needed to win) but being ineligible due to a controversial suspension (controversial because enforcing a new rule that lots of people were not happy about).

I always saw the let off for the trip the following year as redress for the previous year's suspension, given that enforcement of suspensions for accidental head knock became less and less consistent in the weeks following Fyfe's suspension.

Thank you! This exactly. I don’t post much, and really couldn’t be bothered engaging with someone who… for reasons… clearly has their knickers in an 8-9 year old Fyfe twist 🙄

Umpires can add a 50m penalty if a team is deliberately flaunting the rule rather than just a mistake. I recon a massive flood would be an instant 50m.

Pretty sure the umps make them reset before they throw it up

i thought when a 666 free kick is given they still have to remain in their positions ie cant flood?

Only the first time. If it happens after that they pay a free-kick.

The players can't leave the 50m arc or the square until the ball is moved on from that free kick though.

If we could field players wherever we wanted we would have Switta off the back of the square running past, or Freddy. Assuming the clearance dominance remains, the attacking options like that could make it even worse for a side like the eagles.

But ten guys in the defensive fifty would choke it up.

Devon Robertson doesn't want to go to West Coast. The West Coast BF boys are gonna be 'Devo'. Nyuck nyuck. They were expecting to get him on the cheap this year, like it was a given.

ROBERTSON LIKELY TO IGNORE RIVAL OVERTURES

Brisbane’s exciting inside midfielder Deven Robertson is considered likely to ignore the overtures from clubs including West Coast.

Early talks have now started on what a new deal would look like at Brisbane with a two-year deal the most likely option.

The No. 22 pick in the 2019 draft had played only three games before round 14 but has been selected in the last four games for a Lions side that is stacked in the midfield position.

The WA boy is one of a number of players linked to West Coast but who are disinclined to move to the Eagles given how deep their rebuild is likely to be in coming seasons.

Those early contract discussions are encouraging for the Lions given he has extensive interest from clubs across the nation including in Victoria.

The Lions will secure Will Ashcroft’s brother Levi in the national draft next year as a likely top 10 pick and father-son Jasper Fletcher has already shown he will make waves as a classy mid.

But Robertson seems likely to back himself in to fight for his midfield opportunities rather than explore the WA interest.
