Fremantle only have Fyfe, Walters, Tabs and JOM Over 30 this season. Most likely to be 2 max next year.
Heh? one has 3 years and two others have just started a two year stretch

People forget West Coast are still older and experienced than Fremantle. It’s not a good place to be.
Sure prop up the list with Reid and Ginbey however there’s still 7-8 players to retire in the next year to three years.
Darling is done. Should’ve retired this season.
Cripps got a contract which is bizarre.
Yeo’s body is failing him.
McGovern is close:
Gaff. He’s s**t. Can’t run these days.
Liam Ryan is currently 27.
Don’t forget Kelly is 30 next season. Sheed is 29.

For non Victorian teams the equation is pretty simple - win all but maybe 1 or 2 home games, and almost guaranteed top 4 with 2-3 away games.
As much as I disliked him, Connolly did make a point in 2002-2004 that Subiaco should and must be a home fortress.
Would love Fremantle to do that and make it freaking hard for any team to come here.
Instead North Melbourne won, with thrashings from Carlton, Bulldogs, with crappy losses v Port, Sydney and Brisbane.
Brisbane are the example. Gabba is a fortress and not one loss all season. Finished 2nd- with a questionable MCG form.
No KPD depth though.I expect Kelly to have longer in the league than Sheed and the others on the list. Ryan is a raffle, he has the talent and skill to play a long time. Hasn't had the application to fitness required. That could be said of large portions of their list.
Gov has looked trimmer the last 12 months from the little I have watched them. His game isn't reliant on speed or leap so if he can avoid soft tissue injuries I expect him to play a few more seasons yet.
Either way, they have a lot of their top players to replace in the next three seasons. By the time they are replaced the next group will be done or close to done (Kelly and Gov).
Yep, they have waited too long. By the time the young players are 2-3 season in the old ones will be finished and they will need to replace those too with another batch of good players, thus extending the rebuild 2-3 more years but only if they nail all their picks. Chesser already looks like a bust and they need Gibney, Hewitt & Reid to all be A/B graders to just be competitive.I expect Kelly to have longer in the league than Sheed and the others on the list. They are basically doing the full rebuild we did without some stars to flip for top up picks. We also managed to find gold in the 2nd and 3rd round. They have done that once in the past 10 years.
Yep, we started with KP players first, getting AA discussion ruck and a KPD early are pivotal, we stuffed up going the quick fix with Lobb and Hogan for the KPFs though, which has cost us. But having an AA Ruck when the mids are coming on is very important. I expect the weagles to short cut their rebuild by backing the truck up to English and offering him the greatest godfather deal the league has seen.In hindsight the Cox, Darcy and Ryan draft was big for us. The argument could be made that it was as important as the Young, Serong and Frederick draft. Or more considering where they were taken in the draft.
Home crowd is a big part of that. I get to maybe 1 game a year, and we are a friendly bunch compared to 10 years ago.For non Victorian teams the equation is pretty simple - win all but maybe 1 or 2 home games, and almost guaranteed top 4 with 2-3 away games.

Not even an argument. More an academic discussion over a couple of pints. Both critical drafts for us.In hindsight the Cox, Darcy and Ryan draft was big for us. Going to love watching the train wreck.Yep, they have waited too long. Oh agree. Would happily have the 2002 atmosphere back.Home crowd is a big part of that. I get to maybe 1 game a year, and we are a friendly bunch compared to 10 years ago.
Was fine with Lobb. Perfect quick fix. Couldn’t predict his off field/love life.Yep, we started with KP players first, getting AA discussion ruck and a KPD early are pivotal, we stuffed up going the quick fix with Lobb and Hogan for the KPFs though, which has cost us. Victoria would have to declare war and start firing nukes at us before I felt a shred of comradery or empathy for West Coast as an organization.A Weird thing is happening. I actually feel sympathy for West Coast with this Harley reid quad awareness stuff. This along with all the bullshit gather round and the these s**t Vic clubs making big profits while getting huge handouts I'm starting to feel a stronger west verse east rivalry
Even then, I'm not sure it's warranted. After all, we know that cockroaches are the most likely to survive a nuclear war.Victoria would have to declare war and start firing nukes at us before I felt a shred of comradery or empathy for West Coast as an organization.
Whether you care about the WAFL or not, the national reserves competition idea that Port want to push is such a half- baked thought bubble.
Half the reserves teams are semi professionals with day jobs or tertiary ed and they expect them to fly across the country to away games. Fine maybe for Eastern States, not gonna work in WA.
Are clubs and the AFL prepared to double their travel costs and compensate the WA based ammos for lost income? Yeah, nah.
A Weird thing is happening. I actually feel sympathy for West Coast
Would you believe me if I said the reason they haven’t yet is because , predominantly anyway ..wait for it … the AFL don’t approve.Admittedly I have no idea about costs or seating capacity but was thinking the eagles, dockers, wildcats should go thirds in a private jet or long term lease. Eagles and dockers travel alternate weeks during winter and wildcats season is during AFL offseason. Obviously will need to hire it out when not in use to make the costs work out.
For eagles and dockers, both do well financially, success is gauged 95% onfield. Do whatever it takes to get an edge. Might help with career longevity, injuries, player retention/recruitment not to mention obviously performance.
Because then you could have half the seats taken out for massage tables, lounges, etcThe clubs already get chartered flights put on by the AFL so why would they feel like wasting money on a private plane?
