I take it back McIvor 7 changes is the sweet spot.
I don’t think I’ve ever called for seven changes and maybe the Suns still lose but I think Hardwick has gotten the spark he was looking for by making no one’s position safe.

Whilst a lot rarely agree with me, I still think it’s pretty short sighted that making statements at selection table doesn’t serve a purpose and the fact Fagan has not once done so in his time at the Lions is extremely odd to me and not something most opposition coaches won’t do.

I assume the Giants will be dropping half their team next week
Yep because Hardwicks approach clearly hasn’t worked, not to mention drawn a line in the sand for the squad 🙄

You are so short sighted it’s not funny and you think taking the piss elevates your position. Who’s ever called for seven changes. All I did was commend Hardwick for having the balls to do so by making a statement that A certain level is required to get selected at the Suns. How ridiculous that 🙄

In this case it's been the exception not the rule, but absolutely has worked. Suns have so much quality youth.

In general though, it's not something coaches ever really do because it almost never pays off.

Has made for a very entertaining game though - suns got an absolute haul from their academy. Looking forward to our turn this year.

All it shows is that Hardick has no clue about their best 23. We have a template that goes deep into September. Any comparison in our situations is ridiculous

Charlie Hewitt is the one I want to see really step up this season, we are in need of a developing KPF.

Who said it was comparable; I didn’t.

All I and a few others have consistently said is that no player should be immune from being dropped. You’re the one that has mocked anyone for saying otherwise. Many other clubs drop name players and certainly don’t make the same group of players scapegoats for its performances like we do.

Why some of you take such exception to the mere suggestion of a player being dropped is astounding. I mean would it have hurt ever to drop Rayner or Hipwood or whoever else whilst at the same time to send a message to the group that your position shouldn’t be taken for granted. Hell, it may have even benefitted said player by taking the pressure off but we’ll never know because it never happens. Who knows, maybe if we did drop name players over the years from time to time, we may even have performed better or won a GF. But don’t tell me there is never any benefit to dropping underperforming players.

Again I think

Struggling with form doesn’t necessarily result from taking your position for granted. Some real armchair psychology going on.

Once again though, the non-Lions thread gets dragged off the rails. There’s little sanctuary here from those who have to perpetually grind an axe to the point of self-parody.

Rayner and Hipwood have always found form without playing in the reserves. They're just not that good

Perhaps if people don’t then don’t find the need to make snide smart arse passive aggressive posts in this thread clearly directed at my post days ago commending Hardwick for having the guts to actually drop some players the you won’t be bored with such exchanges. But shore, merely suggesting someone getting dropped may actually improve their performances by spending some time in the reserves like we do to the same scapegoats is then armchair psychology is absurd.

Hardwick gets a bit of leeway to make those changes. A new coach getting a feel for the squad. It's the right time early in the season and looking at the outs, for the most part, you already know what you are going to get these types of players.

I literally gave you credit for saying it was the right move in this case. Why does everything have to spin off into a negative?

You’re the clubhouse leader for the most negative, uninspiring, incoherent and dull commentary on this board. It’s really hard reading friend. And you clog up every thread with it.

Collingwood are playing 9 30+ year olds today. Quite a few of those in the 33-36 bracket. And then another bundle of players in the 28-29 bracket. It’s amazing how lucky they have been with injury to these players.
