Terrible game of footy.

Deplorable skills. Poo!

Even allowing for the obviously slippery conditions, I'd be amazed if either of these sides get any where near us

I want to agree with this. But I think most teams are going to look like this. Including, at stages, us. Defence defence defence 🤢

If ever there was a case for a free kick for last touch OOB, this game demonstrates it. Melbourne especially, have shamelessly "missed" a team-mate with a 2 metre handball several times for the pill to roll OOB

Was thinking the same thing. Not last DISPOSAL out of bounds like in AFLW, last TOUCH out of bounds. INCLUDING inside 50s. We need to dissuade defenders from using the boundary line as a team mate.

Maybe we need to give it a few weeks to see how it pans out re how the games will look this year.

It's only very early March. Not surprised skills are a bit rusty and coaches are going out there not to lose.

Every year footy is becoming more and more like soccer. We're going to see teams really honing their defensive structures this year if last week and tonight is any guide.
I just finishing watching my Mariners win in the Asian (seconds) league - thought about switching over, but this game looks several levels below even watching a minnow A-League club beat up on an Indian club.

Agree.

It's ridiculous how, under the current OOB rules, that it's all up to whether the umpire (always theatrically) decides whether or not it was "deliberate",

While we're at it, let's get rid of the archaic centre bounce. Precious seconds are wasted every game due to restarts after a stuffed up "bounce"

Games have started 2 weeks earlier than they did 2 years ago.
Can understand if skills are pretty sloppy.

And still they prefer Abbey Holmes to somebody from Queensland on the All Australian team selection committee.
Your kidding.

I laugh my backside off when they say that because some if these women have won an AFLW GF as if it gives them automatic credibility when talking about the AFL. How so exactly?

I’m literally laughing on the floor when I saw one of the unofficial practice matches and some women is commentating, NFI who she was and that Waterworth clown was commentating with her and he says to her you’d be the best to tell us how Collingwood can go back to back because she won an AFLw GF. I was watching the game with friends and we all burst out laughing such how ludicrous it was. Abbi Holmes tho is just awful and so to many others that are being given jobs in the industry for god knows why. Well we all no why yet no one wants to admit it.

Watching NFL has contributed to my argument that the clock should not start until the ball hits the ground or the ruckmen contact the ball. Ball ups or throw ins.

(NFL reference: at kick offs the clock doesn't start until the ball is fielded. If it goes dead in goal no time elapses.)

If we can I'd prefer to keep the bounce and employ this regulation.

wtf

How can you call advantage that late as the second demon takes possession after the free
That's the Zac Bailey rule. Only difference is the volume of the crowd.

Feels as though ball handling has improved since half time. Game is still crap but not so many fumbles? I find it hard to believe the dew/humidity could have dissipated tho. Very strange.

On the whole I do think most of the female pundits are ordinary BUT so too are the male pundits.

I watch a few EPL analytical shows and there has been quite a big stink in England about women being expert pundits on the EPL, the main argument is that they are DEI/quota appointments and not there on merit which in the majority of cases I agree with... also that women's and men's Soccer is for all intents and purposes a completely different game which you only have to watch to agree with.

IMO the same goes for AFL and AFLW, they are completely different sports skill wise, strength wise, physicality wise, speed wise etc.

However watching the New Zealand v Australia Test Match last week I was taken with how bloody good the female pundits analysis was, I can't recall her name but she was an x Kiwi women's cricketer, she was great with the banter as well.

Just select all positions in all walks of life on merit/performance, that is what happens in sport without exception.

This isn't a bad game actually.

You get the impression the Swans are just hanging in there but the Dees have form for choking the last couple of years.

Katey Martin I believe?

There was an impressive English lass on the ABC/BBC's coverage of the World Cup. Alex Hartley. Funny and insightful.

Yes I just googled the name, that's her, she was very impressive, the other woman sporting pundit I really like is also in Cricket, Isa Guha.

The female commentators I've heard across the world in Test Cricket have been almost without exception excellent.

As for the AFL there was only one I thought had any idea ,in fact she was quite good. The rest have been unlistenable.

The one female AFL commentator I have time for is Kate McCarthy, and not just because she played for Brisbane. Daisy Pearce was ok the one time I heard her on the radio, but that was a few years ago.
