Would have probably been a nice precedent for the rest of the comp if it became a disastrous deal but there is enough of an argument that the Dogs were vindicated.
I don't agree that it was vindicated. In fact I think that the subsequent cap squeeze and loss of required talent like your JJs and Bonts may (will hopefully) form a more enduring and illustrative precedent.

Now they r premiership players, they r all probably thinking they r worth more money than they are actually worth. So the cap squeeze will be telling.
I think they will do all they can to keep the Bont, but it isnt looking good for Johanneson and possibly many others.

Damn it really was a massive contract for him. I'm guessing it must have been up at the $1.5m mark last year, but as you say that does start to put a lot of pressure on the Bont, JJ, Libba, Macrae, etc contracts
maybe in a couple of years when we're contending for flags:) that will be the time to look at a big name signing to really top our list off. Bontempelli would look pretty good in maroon blue and gold.

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not the brightest tool in the box, how will managers get burnt? I think I understand how a player can get burnt.

Financially if the player ends up earning less money and reputation.

My experience with other sports is that it's often not the player who thinks that they are worth more (possibly some/most do), but it's often rival clubs looking for that extra player to push them in to title contention or a desperate signing by a struggling team to appear relevant that tells them they are worth more.

Players will stay, on lesser money for another shot at the title though*.

*Until the coach realises it's time to revitalise the list and sells his senior guys off to West Coast and Melbourne, that is.

That said, and as a wise coach once said, there are more driving factors for more players these days, other than on-field success. Just going to work each day to do a bit of running and play footy is enough if you're bringing home half a million $$$. Who cares if you win a cup? Whether they stay or go, it certainly provides a head ache for the club though.

Heard something very interesting from someone connected to the Suns regarding Ablett. Essentially is done at the suns and likely won't play more than 6 rounds. Given this person is someone who hasn't given me info before I'm not sure how credible it is, but he was also speaking about Cochrane and said some inside stuff about him that I'd heard from a credible source so he may well be in the know.

Thought it was interesting enough to share.
I've heard he is gone, but hadn't heard 6th round. Family issues.

Looking forward to tonight's clash. Whichever team loses will result in maximum BigFooty melts:thumbsu:

Bit of a danger game for the Pies in the context of their season. If they lose they head to the SCG next Friday night to play the Swans. Lose tonight and they are likely to go 0-3 and the pressure on Bucks will hit fever pitch.
