You’re paranoid, get help…
No sporting team aims to go winless in a season.
The aim is to finish as low as they can, not necessarily go winless. North wants to build a pool of talent and picks that they can on trade if needed. Hawthorn, Collingwood and Essendon are just making it more difficult by also playing like crap. It'll get later in the year and they'll pick up a few wins.

That is pretty fair, and that is something the AFL needs to fix.

Get rid of father son, get rid of academies and it starts to become a lot more balanced.
I like the romantic aspects and history of FS, started because Barassi Snr died in ww2 and they wanted to make sure jnr went to Melbourne.
But they have to pay a fair price.
The academy kids need to disappear from the first two rounds.

Roos need help IMO, but PP's are never the answer.

It's like giving money to someone who is financially irresponsible. It's a lifestyle (or culture, in this case) that they subscribe to and it requires change at a deeper level. You simply cannot throw them a bone and expect them to fix it.

Whole club needs a review from top to bottom, cut out the rotten flesh.

Poor list management decisions, heck even jumping the gun and appointing Rhys Shaw without a proper process behind it was a snap decision that proved costly.

What help would you suggest? We're doing well financially. Membership is healthy especially considering the performance last year and this season.

A thorough review has been done. The football department is very different from what it was 18 months ago and a strategy and vision are in place.

The appointments of Brady Rawlings, Noble, Paul Roos and John Blakey show we're bringing in quality people to implement change.

We've cut out a lot of dead wood and are definitely focused on a successful future. A new CEO was also installed to drive change.

Unfortunately Rhyce Shaw didn't work out but who knows how things would be if we hadn't had the pandemic difficulties to deal with. It was a perfect storm that nobody could have foreseen.

Our list needs work but we do have some decent talent and we're going down the full rebuild for the first time ever. A priority pick would certainly assist fast tracking the process.

Yep, I’m sure we planned for Tarrant to go down with kidney issues unavailable for the year, or having only 3 afl listed players available in the reserves this week.. it’s all just part of the major plan..

The list was baked last year, and continued onto current..

No point sugar coating it.

If they go through 2021 winless they will get pick 1 to go with their first rounder imo, I doubt they will go winless but to go winless in a 22 round season would be so incredibly damning.
It wouldn’t surprised me if we did, perfect storm when rebuilding, senior players go down with injury, kids have to step up, can’t run out games and getting hurt in the process.
Until we get back senior bodies, we won’t be seriously competitive, but that’s not till the backend of the season, where the kids will be done and dusted.

If anything it's going better than planned. The list is baked because they deliberately baked it.

Why don't we just wait until their injury list shrinks dramatically, before making any calls on this.

Tarrant, Anderson, Stephenson (who is probably leading their B+F along with McKay), McDonald, Bonar, Polec, etc. etc.

It's a bit hard to judge the quality of a list, when nearly half that list isn't even getting on the park.

Also, not sure this is the best attitude for a coach to have, when it comes to a rebuilding club who is only at Round 9 of the season, and is already resigning itself to a priority pick - not the mentality you want to bring IMO, and not reminiscent of the whole 'Shinboner Spirit' mantra that their club ethos is built around:

Now that the vic media engine is in gear spruiking a PP for North, I am going to put money on Hawthorn winning this week. It is now not in North's interests to win to deflate that narrative and the hawks are one of the teams down there with Adelaide and Collingwood that could dent North's chances of a PP

Putting money on North atm is about the same returns you’ll get putting it in a term deposit…
And the media have nothing to do with it.

Unfortunately i think the competition side of it needs to come before the romanticism.

It is ridiculous that a club can get priority access to the best kid in the Draft just because of who his dad is.

Imagine if Collingwood hadn't butchered it's list management and were adding Nick this year to a team contending for a flag.

Father son is crap

Don't think they deserve, or should get a priority pick, this year. The club undertook a deliberate strategy to purge their list of mid range/age players and go down the rebuild path. They are in no way a basket case like Dees were, or a club starting out like Suns, who have both had other clubs pilfering their players.

Yep, I completely agree, the faster the competition gets rid of all of the junk the better. Still doesn’t change the fact i like the romance of it..

free agent also needs to be looked at, as clubs need a mechanism to trade players, in the clubs best interests.
Ie Out of contract players are free to go wherever, clubs fault for not signing them.
Contracted players, are contracted to the AFL, therefore can be traded to any team at any time. Stop the I need to go home to Victoria but I’ll only play for Collingwood nonsense.

The mid range age players we got rid of were spuds and got us 3 wins last year and have been replaced with better players like stevo, Corr, L Young and Atu, Powell etc

as we saw with the crows...its never as bad as it seems
Of course it’s never as bad as it seems and never as good either, it’s a fairly even competition, and if you’re 10% off in a game, you’ll get done..

But people claiming north deliberately dumped 11 players in the hopes of not winning a game and claiming a PP are simply delusional.

we did it to go forward with players who we thought could take the step forward and injuries hit..

North elected to get rid of their Coleman medal winning full forward who is now kicking bags for the leagues best team.
They deserve what’s happening on field right now and do not deserve to be compensated for what they wanted to happen ie not win.

If they had kept players like Macmillan, Brown, Pittard, Daw, Jacobs, Wood and Williams, as well as had a good run with injury they would have two or three wins to their credit currently.

How about we start with extra mid season draft picks ie priority picks in the MSD? I’d be ok with that so long as they are mature players only brought in to cover injuries.
Would be similar to what GC and Carlton got given for mature age selections in 2018.
GC used it wisely to get Corbett and Burgess. Carlton not so much.

With regards to the injury list, I'm struggling to comprehend how so many people are totally misreading how that influences the PP recipe.

A large injury list = less likely to receive a pick, not the other way round. How is that so complex to understand?

Don't agree with priority picks but can't see how their situation is much different from Gold Coast.
Gold Coast had a number of their decent kids poached.

It's what he was hired to do.
Bahhaha this is the most delusional yet…
Yes an AFL coach took on the job to lose games..
Honestly do you really think players like Cunners would tank?
he would walk away to the farm tomorrow, if he thought that’s what we were doing.

The fact we might no be able to fill a side without top up players might have something more to do with it.

I haven't real this whole thread so sorry if it has already been brought up.

Imagine being forced to rebuild when you know the AFL is handing the first THREE picks to its new pet Gold Coast in 2010? That's what Richmond was faced with and this was Brendon Gale's response.

What North need is a clear long term plan and for their leaders to accept responsibility for the situation they're in.

It's not like what they're trying to achieve has never been done before so don't start walking around with your hand out now.
