Dan howe had all the tools but just never quite put it together. I was hoping the change of scenery might make a difference.

If old crazy eyes was just 5% faster both legspeed and brain speed he would be a decent player.

They are considering changing the rules for everyone now. From AFL.com.au:

NGA BIDDING CHANGES DISCUSSED

THE POTENTIAL to align the Next Generation Academy bidding system with the northern Academy rules is among the suggestions put forward by clubs as the AFL reviews its NGA system.

The League has had ongoing reviews of the NGA system – its rules, the access to talent for clubs, the eligibility process – across the year, with club views strong on questioning the pick 40 threshold on when they are able to match bids on NGA products.

Clubs have felt that benchmark for priority access to Indigenous and multicultural prospects in the draft was too late to warrant huge investment in the programs without the benefit of the best players within their zones.

Northern Academy clubs, like those with father-sons, have access to matching bids at any stage of the draft, with limitations only on how many per season clubs inside the top eight and top four can take inside the top 20 picks.

But club feedback on NGA provisions will be put forward on the Academy bidding systems aligning, while other clubs have suggested that clubs should need to retain a selection within a certain range of where the bid could come on a player so that they cannot trade out of a pick and match with later picks and points.

While the review is undergoing this year, any possible changes wouldn't be brought in until the 2024 draft. – Callum Twomey
I would be completely fine with them changing it in 2024 (although I actually like the system as it is, even if my club doesn’t benefit). But you just can't change it for one club one month before the draft.

Except that the AFL does whatever it wants whenever it wants and the rules are optional.

They need to trial it first 🤣

North are very good at playing the long game with players of either priority picks or languishing down teh bottom
tracks. A little bit seedy and a little bit depressed will have them lounging on a low seat hear a terracottq plqnt pot
wondering where it all went wrong... :)

Honestly, that was the most coherent post of Leeda's I've ever seen.
I did try to tell him that. I don't think he believed me.

Leeda is the best thing about bigfooty though. I remember years and years ago when I first discovered this place, he used to post all the time. It was glorious. You rarely see him any more.

I annoyed him and he hates me :(

I think most of his posts come after a dozen bong hits at 3am.

Why is it the same narrative every year regarding pick 1?

Surely by now we understand the chances of drafting a A Grade gun in the top 10 is fairly similar no matter which pick.

Except pick 6. That one’s cursed.
It's such a strange and wonderful anomaly isn't it?!?

Historically, you will get equal games out of pick 40 in the Rookie draft as Pick 6 (68 games).

so Bulldogs get JUH instead of Adelaide, Mac Andrew goes to Gold Coast instead of Melbourne, then immediately change it back so North can get a top player.

The AFL is ridiculous.

They aren't changing it back. NM are asking for a special kind of priority pick related to a specific player. The rule with respect to NGAs isn't changing generally.

Motlop goes to Carlton instead of Freo, and Edwards ends up being a single year shy of being eligible.

The AFL really is just a P&C spitballing ideas for a fate.

With news TT might be looking to leave, I'll say it again - getting new kids aren't the problem. Retaining and developing them is.

Give them extra money in the cap if needed to retain their best young kids and definitely extra money to spend on development coaches.

We're already paying TT 700k per year. Salary cap is not our issue.

Cap floor could be. And I wonder if there is generally issues with having front ended contracts (to meet cap floor) that players then break contract in the low pay years to get more $
