I’m not one of those serial “footy players were better back in the day” chumps… but what sticks out for me by following this Instagram account is how many unbelievable kicks we had in the team in the 90’s/early 00’s compared to the junk we serve up today. Carey/McKernan/King/Pickett/Schwass/Abraham etc. bombing drop punt goals at post height from 60m, hitting forwards lace out on the chest.

We are so conditioned to poor skills from our boys that I still think about Josh Goater’s inside kick on debut when I’m in the shower. 20+ years ago that wouldn't have even registered as impressive.

Secondly, to add to Lavy_Panther's post, it seems completely unfair that we were embarrassed with forward-line riches and yet also had players that could just bypass the forward line completely with 60m goals
