Re: Northern Football League Division 2

And will Thornbury, Collingwood Districts, Richmond City, St Andrews, Fairfield Park,Keon Park what a joke to have the Stars thinking of coming back....even if they do, give them one year and it will be all over again.

And we all thought the League had woken up to accepting new Clubs...or recycled Clubs.
Agree would be a major backward step.
Shades of the defunct Northern Metropolian FL that was comprised of teams from the bottom of football's gene pool.

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

I am not up to date with the OP’s situation, although I am hoping to be by months end. I can say that the talk of them entering NFL has been rife for years, to no avail. Although in recent years there has been two determining factors that have changed. First being their club position in the Ammo section (divisions). Next season it will be D2.( Not 2nd division, mote like 5th division) 7-8 yrs ago they were in 1st division. Secondarily their committee representation. The past couple of years has seen the introduction of new blood. It will be the old blood who have kept them in the Ammo’s, and will keep them there. (I’d love to hear from an OP’s person about this). Similar to Parksides situation when they entered the now old DVFL. I think you will find they had a rich and proud Ammo history. When they entered I am lead to believe they had an old Nth Heidelberg boy at the helm, and he lead the change of comp. (I would love to hear from a P’Side identity in regards to this)
Secondaly, I had the opportunity to speak with some of our current playing Indigenious boys last week. I was not aware at the time that the Fitz Stars was on the cards, although they did let me know. Some of them have been playing in the Western league, others in country West, and a few they mentioned just didn’t play. If the Stars are to get up and going, there would be only one choice of coach who would make it happen. And his name is God amongst the Indigenious community. He has been coaching non-stop at different places, and I am sure would love the opportunity to return to the Fitz Stars. I believe he has played over 300 games there.
If the NFL was able to attract those two clubs into the league, just imagine the history, prestige and support group the league would also inherit. It would be magnificent. And it would also go a very long way towards establishing what this current commission has stated as its main mission statement. To return this league to the community.
I for one think it would be fantastic for the NFL comp. What do you think?

Agreed that past performance does not have a very good track record. Neither did past performances with many, many, many , many issues when it comes to the old, now dismissed, DVFL admin.
Things that were swept under the capret, not addresed and ignored, have not been allowed to escape under this current NFL admin. And there lies the differance. There and only there.

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

It's been confirmed, the Kinglake Football Club has left the Northern Football League and will re-join the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League in 2008 with Yea.

http://www.leadernews.com.au/article/2007/10/02/23196_yvmdfl_story.html

It seems (according to the YVMDFL forum anyway) a pretty unanimous decision for the Kinglake committee and I wish them the best of luck in both Football & Netball in the YVMDFL in 2008.

And I'm sure that few of you here will be upset about not having to go up there for the time being.

Well you would reckon that having Kinglake out of the NFL would make it harder to get a Division Three up an running for the short term at least. but if Old Paradians & a reformed Fitzroy Stars were to go into the NFL, that would at least give the board some impetus in getting a Division Three up and running.

But, the question has to be asked here is, will Old Paradians accept being placed on the bottom rung of the NFL ?, and also would the VAFA accept them leaving ?, because they are interested in getting more representation in the Northern & Western suburbs, which are under represented in the VAFA.

And if OP's left, would that pave the way for Old Eltham Collegians & La Trobe University to possibly look into going as well ?.

About Fitzroy Stars, I think that it would be good if they were to reform and become Melbourne's premier Indigenous team, much like Rumbalara in Shepparton, because even though there have been a few bumps along the way, Rumba's been a great addition to local football, and to the indigenous community at large.

And if they have enough of the right people around the club, that have a real fire in the belly to make it happen (and I'm sure that Rumbalara would assist in this if it does happen, because they have always had good leadership), and if you get the right corporate and government support, in getting their ground up to scratch, I'm sure that in 10 years time, people will be talking about Fitzroy Stars in the same way that people talk about Rumbalara when it comes to indigenous health and other related issues.

So in conclusion, I think that both Old Paradians, Fitzroy Stars and a Division Three would be good for the league, even if having Kinglake going, it leaves the NFL short one senior club

Good luck to the lakers, hope the move to the YVMDFL will help them to become a more successful club in the future!:thumbsu:

I wouldn't say Im dissapointed about not having to travel up all that way to freeze the goolies off!:)

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Hi guys, just want throw my 2 bobs worth in. Bit sorry to see Kinglake go, some good blokes up there, but they did struggle when they came over. Did not adjust too well to the style and pace of DVFL / NFL. They would be more suited to YVMDFL style of football. Good luck to them.

On the issue of Fitzroy Stars. Had the opportunity to see Stars play in the defunct MNFL. They had some very good players back in those days. Some say that their reputation was not too good, however from what I have heard and seen over the years, yeah, there was a couple of hot heads playing, but if you look close enough there was a lot of talented players and good blokes around also. A lot of those blokes are still involved in some ways with clubs in both Div 1 & 2. A lot of their kids are playing in our comp, and are very competitive.

For what it is worth, I say it could a step in the right direction. It can only better the comp and I am sure that they would be very competitive. :thumbsu:

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Just wondering if anyone else has heard the rumour big Ronny as applied for the whittlesea senior job? Ursin - RAAV maybe either of you guys may of heard this.

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

I heard a rumor:
Morangs seconds coach put in to coach Kinglake, and thats the REAL reason they up and left the comp just to get away.;)

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Fawkner Park have merged with North Coburg Saints and will be known as the Northern Saints. They will play in Essendon Districts Div 2 and play at Mutton Reserve.

The Northern Saints are also getting a bit of interest from current NFL players wanting to play in the EDFL.

Every year there is a victorian aboriginal football and netball carnival and we played on the weekend in shepparton, and Fitzroy Stars took out both A grade and B grade both teams went through undefeated and for the A grade team is was 3 in a row and from the last 7 yrs we have won 5 and lost 1 and i think there were suppose to be a represenative from the northern leauge up there taking a look.

"logan" stevie bell gets a gong in the mvp, well done, to bad u had ur jaw broken iceman you would have rated surely. How did zoo go this year, is he stuggling without his big hairy offsider.
How are Wallan travelling in the off season iceman. Any new recruits? anybody leaving, people on the board perhaps.

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

On the issue of wanting more clubs joining the league, personally I'm against it. We need to get all the existing clubs competitive and financially viable first. There were a number of clubs struggling for player numbers this year, and surely adding more clubs would only worsen the situation. Lets get the existing clubs right first before adding more clubs.

Yeah I came 4th champ, not a bad effort considering I played just the 8 games. Zoo didn't have the greatest of years but im sure he will comme good next year. I have not heard of any new recruits but I did hear that they would love to see Wayne Comfort back at the club. We had our AGM the other week, we got some members on board but it was ajourned to next week I think. No players have left that I know off but some committee members from last year have stepped down.
