Re: Northern Football League Division 2

I dare say Epping should easily account for morang. at least 7-8 goals.
jonbrown u need your head checked cause i was told the stars carved up morang and ran them off their feet which, eventhe over weight blokes ran away from them. I was also told Morang could not pick up the ball cleanly which cost them. Young Blokes hey maybe the club should look after the young group and slash $$$ their way and look after them... oh wait they have already left...

Great tipping Jinxy, i won't be taking your advice for next weeks tips. Anyone notice the dog tipping in the record is getting a few right perhaps you should have a talk to him. :p

Not predicting anything outlandish but i was very proud of the way the seniors bounced back after a poor showing against the Stars. We worked on the theory that the game against the Stars was just one of those days that you're not meant to win, every club has those days but it is how quickly you can rebound from them and to kick 7 last qtr goals against a slight breeze on an oppositions dung hill shows character by the young Lions.:thumbsu:

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Ill tell you;
allan Richo-Good junior footballer struggling in the seniors at the moment due to lack of experience and youth will get there if he sticks at it.not the most intelligent kid you will meet but a great kid!

Damien Di La La-capable of kicking a bag kicked alot of goals for Mill PARK AS A JUNIOR needs to focus on the footy not the opponent prob wont play seniors all year and a question of whether he can become a senior footballer one day???has already been red carded:thumbsdown:

Lee Slater-Have watched a bit of him in the 19s last year can play probably stif not to be getting a game at the moment i think he may be he best of the lot of the youth.I just hope Morang dont underate him like they did to the players that left.where is he this year?:confused:Injured?

J.Burrows-played a few senior games last year did OK,then disapeared i dont know why,Inury?work?.he is also a midget:D!just kidding not very tall

Matt Manning-had a good game against Hiedelberg this year,Tall,Athletic type, does nothing really he is just there:confused:.

At the end of the day there is nothing wrong woth the kids at morang they are fine,.but they just arnt as good as the departed accept it,get over it,move on and talk about more important footy issues!
lol ur a tool mate, i was at the game yesterday and looking at the game ill go through ur list...
1- allan richards- yes hasnt been having the impact he wouldve had in junior games but hes a star and can play football, the kid has just turnd 18 so give him a chance,
2- damian di lala has kiked 4 goals in his first game of seniors and kiked another 6 yesterday and kiked some freakish goals and yes he has been red carded but this is something the young kid has 2 get out of his game, has alot of potential
3-leigh slater broken wrist round 1 so theres nothing 2 say there
4-jayden burrows wont play seniors this year im guessing
5- matt manning is a star and this kid can play, missed yesterday with glandular fever apparently but is definitly an asset to the south morang line up.

anyone got anything to add or comment about this please.

1. Not surprised..
2. You need a conscience before you can realise. The "chest beating" of the highest officials over recent times makes you wonder if their presence at the club is purely about personal ego and nothing else.

personal egos bigger than their brains???
or is it look after your mates and f**k the rest?

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Jinx not so directed at you but at everyone I suppose I dont know who you are and which club you are from, but after reading a lot of crap on the site for months i just thought I would have a small say !
After heading to south Morang last year I knew no one but thought I would give it a chance !
The club couldnt have been more welcoming.
The last comment about looking after ya mates I presume that refers to selection ..... Very interesting as I knew no one at the club, and I think after most selections Ron and co would have picked the best possible side to match up against opponents was pretty much exactly the side that I would have picked !
Yeah 5 or 6 players left dissapointing yeah ok lets get over it they have gone good luck to them I think it proberbly wasnt the correct decision and I would be certinly very very surprised if it was money.
I personally would love to know why they left but its up to those players to comment on it proberbly the proffessional thing to do is shut up and play footy, Personally I was dissapointed in rumours that these players apparently said about certain people including myself but in saying that I have never spoken to them direct if stuff was going to be said I hope it could be said to me face to face !
Morang very happy to play the kids ( AS long as they want to play in the 1's ) which is great for the club and competition !
On the committee great bunch of people who try and try to make morang the place to be yeah some past events ( That I have never seen just heard about ) have hindered the club and maybe cost players but all I can say is that Morang have tried very hard to make the club as proffessional as possible !
I have many friends at different clubs especially Reservoir good luck t o them this year but I really do think its time to get off Morangs back and concentrate on football what has happend has happend Morang still have a few players out was a great win yesterday well done boys.
Just had to have my say
Cheers good luck everyone for the year ahead !

So.....you pretty much agree with everything i said but im a tool???? i wasnt being negative on the young guys i know they are young i think its great Morang play the kids its the way to go:thumbsu:
Maybe i was a bit harsh on Manning-i should have said hasnt developed yet.no offence intended.(Kicked not Kiked!)
But....i dont believe they are superstars yet!its way to early to be calling them superstars of the competition!

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Watsonia beat Stars by 7 goals, led by about 9-10 goals at three quarter time and shouldve really rolled them in the last qtr but stars ran out the game well and the wats finished the game with 16 or 17 players like the last 2 weeks.
could anyone give me a fair assessment of the umpiring at Stars and Watsonia's game:thumbsu: I also know that our umpires aren't AFL material.

P.S it might take a while for me to answer any response as i'll be away up near Darwin, this week

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

Just thought I would let you know that Sth Morang was not the only side to play on the weekend.

Any thoughts from anyone on the Thomastown v Lower Plenty game? Lower Plenty 10 goals down at half time, kick 12.7 in third qtr and win by 3 goals. Can anyone recall a game like this where a side has wiped off a 10 goal deficit to lead by 2 goals in the space of 1 qtr of football?

Essendon wiped off a 69 point defecit in 2001 against the Kangaroos which took them the best part of half a game.

Extroadinary effort by a very young side against what I would think is quality opposition!

I was not there, however I can tell you that the NFL is very short of umpires this year and you will not see much quality in Div 2. This year is also the first time that Div 1 umpires get paid more, so my guess is the best umpires will be in Div 1.

Well the few umpires they do have need to remember not to think of themselves as bigger than the game itself. As has been the case in some games you think some umpires enjoy the sound of their own whistles and are trying to impress some one in the crowd.

These umpires need to know that people come to watch the footy and not a bloke blowing his whistle every 2 seconds.

On a separate note great win by the Lower Plenty Bears on the weekend, lets hope we do not give away 10 goals starts each week.

Not to mention almost 50 goals were kicked, I'm surprised this is the first mention of it.

The umpiring since the start of round 1 has been disgraceful, I dont know if these umpires are umpiring A game of senoir football or bloody soccer, alot of soft free kicks, and alot of free kicks that arnt there. I think they are listening to crowds WAY TOO MUCH, and not doing there job properly. It is not hard to read a game of football and keep your eyes on the play, ive also noticed alot of the time them getting in my way, ran into them 3 or 4 times being in the way of play, not good. Need to be a big improvement.

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

The umpiring of the Parkside v Whittlesea game was atrocious!!!! Would have been 8 or 9 yellow cards and 3 or 4 red cards between the 2 sides. There was no major brawl and no serious misconduct. I can understand umpires not accepting abuse or foul language but most of it was for simply asking why the free kick was granted or an accidental high/low tackle. The 25m penalty rule is in place for those intermediate incidents of aggression and high/low contact not the red/yellow cards.

I understand we don't have great depth at the moment, but instead of getting nervous and simply producing a yellow card talk to the player tell them your reasoning and then if they keep arguing or get abusive then yes send them off.

By the way im not trying to make these issues a reason for Parkside's loss. Whittlesea were a far better side than us on Saturday. We certainly didn't play the same game we did against Lower.

Couple of players worth mentioning for Whittlesea: 19 - Luke Suban played well takes an excellent grab due to his size and leap, maybe only limited availability due to boxing commitments though. 42 Steve Dorset played well, marked or spoiled nearly everything that came his way across the half back line, not overly tall but got in front and did everything asked of a defender. Acquilina also dominated the half back centre line - pretty sure he was a morang player last year.

Whittlesea's depth is very good. I know our 2's are struglling but Whittleseas 2's looked very fit and a multitude of them looked like they could step up to the 1's at anytime.

I think after seeing whittlesea this week they will be the team to beat in 2008.

I know ur reading this Pete, would "luv" to hear your thoughts.......;)

Did Epping have a bad day or are Morang simply a better side??

Thommo v Lower game was a surprise, thought thommo would have won based on the hype around them at the moment - especially on bigfooty....

Wonder if the Resa runner will get the arse????

are you serious? matt manning a star! thats the worst call ever, sorry but no for his shape dosnt offer too much, and whats the go with james duncan is he playing ones much better than manning and slater he came second in the 19s goal kicking last year?

hey snorta, 19 was not suban, his name is Evan Murray, he had subans number for the seniors, and yes he is a very good player

Re: Northern Football League Division 2

At the coaches meeting this year the umpires advisor( kevin smith ) told all those in attendence the same thing
1- he has tried to recruit umpires but NO ONE wants to come to the nfl due to poor history of league
2 - 4 key areas
a- no tolerence in abuse/talking to umpires - will yellow card everyone and he doesn't care if it is 5 vs 5
b- the player infront will get the advantage and be protected
c- they will only pay the obvious holding the ball
d- any tackle must be legitimate before they consider holding the ball
This was a week before the season and all coaches should have passed this message on.
He knows there is a lack of depth, but he like some clubs is re building and what do you do when you are re building - you play/appoint your youth.
This means we are going to get the very young or the very old with bad habits in div 2.
Imagine div 3 next year?
From what i have seen it is the older brigade that just umpire however they like , having an impact.
The younger ones well they have been trying to follow the four key areas as laid out by smith , have they got some wrong , yes but our players have made more mistakes.

Surely commen sense can prevail, from my experience when the umpire relates to players they get a lot more respect. Many can be down right rude - authority driven and i believe that has come from the top passed down to the NFL, just look at the stupidity and arrogance of the AFL.

Umpires neally need to conduct themselves like a good manager - good managers are generally understanding but firm and will generate respect, bad mangers are dictators and power driven which generates hatred and disrespect.

I know it's easy to have a go at umpires, but a little understanding and a little less ego searching and we will have alot more good umpires than what there are.

For the record I have come across very good umpires in the NFL.

The older umpire was the problem not the kid. The older ump mouthed off at players, seemed to get flustered when under pressure, if i remember correctly he gave every card, seemed to blow his whistle every two seconds. He consistently held up play which allowed numbers to get back which in turn made the game a lot scrappier.

If umpires don't want to be given lip to during the game, then why should they be allowed to give players lip?
Even one of the goal umpires (not the tall one the other one)was talking to players about decisions...why??

I'm not saying I could do better because i can't but they just seem to make it harder for themselves

Funny joke I heard HENNESSEY reported for headbutting Jayden WENDT in Round 1.

The same bloke complaining that punched an Eagle in the head twice, didn't take the set penalty and still only got the minimum penalty of 2 weeks! HAHAHA the new NFL showing signs of the old days!

Oh thats right he plays for Macleod! I think that Macleod got 45 free kicks to 20 against the eagles that day and still lost by 7 goals.

Sad but true.
Spun a massive load of bullshit to get Hennessey done.
Wonder if the NFL will talk players who saw what happened during the game and the players who saw what happened in the rooms after the game or if they will just fob it off
