Working on the assumption that its Drew Petrie.

Clue 1: Iconic?
Please
Obivouisly cryptically presented if true

Clue 3: Sorry Bombers?
Could be anything. A reference to the draft, North's recent history against Essendon.

Clue 8: One. Nine. Seven.?
If Petrie is 197cm, then get on. Is he?

1. Petrie Dish?

3. Rotten Ron Andrews' nephew

8. 197cm, yes

It is Drew Petrie

Originally Third in Victoria - ???
Iconic - Kangaroos clue, Kangaroo is an icon of Australia, also nickname involves 'Dish'
Just you wait and see - Kangaroos theme song
One Nine Seven - 197 cm
Versatile - Key Position payer and Ruckman
Second time lucky - career took a turn once Laidley became coach
Cattle Dog - another Kangaroos clue, regarding Laidley
Came East to Go North - Recruited from Ballarat
Sorry Bombers - Vital in there comeback in the Rnd 12, 2003 clash, also made his debut v Bombers.

The 'iconic' clue is still the puzzling one though.

I would think it was a Kangaroos clue - icon of australia, and as mentioned, his nickname is Petrie Dish - 'The Dish' therefore Parkes Radio Telescope in NSW is a famous icon of Australia.

Yeah mate, I hadn't read your post when I wrote that.

No questions your spot on, re; Kangaroos and 'The Dish'.

It'll surely go off soon, my guess says tommorow.

Like everyone else I'm not going to read through 16 pages of guesses.

So here is my pick.

Derek Kickett

reasons

3rd in Victoria.........in the old VFL competion Essendon was the third listed club alphabeticaly.

iconic.......yes

sorry bombers........yes

Versatile.........yes

travelled east to go north......west australian who went north to Sydney

cattle dog.......yes

second time lucky.....played in Sydney's 1996 Grand Final after missing Essendons 1993

Take that Bucks......was reported for striking the great Nathan

Not sure of the rest though.

Think the Kangaroos clues are a red herring.

I still think Colbert for the reasons listed already. The clues for colbert seem to fit better when you think about how cryptic the clues in these competition are. Like third in victoria as in the third letter in victoria (C for Colbert) iconic (kangaroo) etc. But Drew Petrie also makes sense especially considering he is 197 centimeters.

Its Drew Petrie.

Anyone who thinks otherwise at this stage is plain stupid.

You don't know that. I agreed in my last post that both Petrie and Colbert made sense but I wouldn'tbe surprised if it is someone else we haven't even thought of.
