Vermont always seem to find a way to get out of trouble, they'll be fine.

For what it's worth, my tip for bottom 2 is Park Orchards and Doncaster.

They had a win but jeez, not sure things look great at Norwood. Fielded 18 players in the reserves in Round 1. And I think the only Premier club not to have Under 19s. Unless there was extenuating circumstances, they could be in real trouble as injuries mount up.

There's always an issue with clubs that get relegated and my perception over the years is injuries have never been the issue. It's always trouble within or the money tree burns to the ground. That isn't a problem at Vermont and they will win enough games especially later in the year when they get a few players back. Wishful thinking by many. Good to see Zac Hanlen was in their best.

There’s relegations where there’s no trouble or money issues… somebody has to finish bottom and sometimes in an even division, there’s not much in it.

Especially with two going down this year, I reckon there’ll one of them (if not both) that aren’t in terrible health as a club… it’s simply where the league is at.

Having said that, we have next to nothing to go on as we’re one game in. You’d have to say the faves for the drop are Doncaster and Berwick, purely based off last year’s ladder.

Things are different now, too. There was a time when some clubs - Vermont being one of them - would never, ever have a down year because of sheer weight of money and talent. If their list looked poor they’d simply go and recruit five VFL players or B&Fs from other clubs. There was no rebuild as they could do that in one off season, every year if they needed to. They can’t now because of points and salary cap.

Dane Swan to play for the Basin and the 3rd best Daicos, Peter to be the guest speaker at Bayswater. Great work by both clubs.

Things are looking up with Rixton and Dove back this week for the Rams. Only another 7 to come back in. I guess it's better to have injuries early in the season and not at the end like last year.

What’s the new coach like? Previous coach obviously had a presence about him and turned things around massively. Has the new coach fit right in seamlessly?

My perceptions. He's very approachable and a good communicator and the players like him. He has kept things pretty much the same other than a more defensive aspect of his game plan than Wynd. I am impressed with him at the 1/4 time breaks and in the rooms. So far so good.

Won't matter, 2 back and 2 more bad injuries. Throw in a loss to the Basin has left a sour taste in my mouth. That's football.
Went along and watched this game today and was really impressed by The Basin. Youthful is an understatement but they certainly played some good footy and showed up East Burwood. This is certainly a team that will develop over the year and cause some surprises. Was talking to a few people from East who were telling me about all the injuries but as they say once you cross the line these things don’t count. Was a nice afternoon watching some local footy. Am going to have a look at Dane Swan next weekend too, some people from The Basin were telling me they have basically sold everything out for the day and it’s going to be a big one for the club. Good luck to them.

Also kudos to both clubs for the Anzac Day ceremony. Was organised and conducted in a superb manner and one that had real meaning.

They are a big strong proud club, The Basin. They were never going to role over this season without a fight. Footy this season has been very unpredictable.

The DIV 3 results were insane. Whitehorse defeated Coldy at Coldy, after getting trounced by Fairpark the week prior. Fairpark won their second game of the year defeating Oakleigh Districts, most predicted Fairpark to go winless and finish on the bottom. FTG defeated Donvale and the pre-season favourites Warrandyte are on the bottom of the ladder without a win.

Hopefully the divisions are evening out and you see these sort of results each week. With five divisions the teams should be closer theortically. There will always be good teams and poorer teams but you want it so the gap isn't massive and therefore, if a team is slightly off their game, right on their game or both, you can see upsets. Like what happened with The Basin yesterday.

Div 1 to 3, being the middle divisions, should really be the closest. Each of them only has one side without a win at the moment which is good.

In Premier you'd have to fear for Doncaster, starting the season with 70 and 136 point losses. They'll snatch a few wins like last year but they're big losses.

Couldn’t agree more with your thought about The Basin Adcock. If there is a club with a larger supporter base and player numbers at the moment (football and netball) I would be surprised. Been a long time since I had been there but the corporate support for them was what got me yesterday. Signage covering the fences around the place. The people I was talking to yesterday told me how they have worked really hard to become a ’strong community club’ due to the role they play in providing opportunities for people of all ages whether male or female. At senior level they have 3 netball teams, 2 women’s teams and a men’s veterans team plus a ridiculous number of junior sides. Very different place to when I was there in the mid 80s and the early 90s.

I had not been around there for many years but I walked away quite impressed. Having guys like Matt Smith and Todd Power involved as assistant coaches is also a positive when developing young players. Good fellows with great experience who have so much to offer.

South Croydon too strong for Blackburn in the end today but a good game nonetheless. Burners tended to get on top early in quarters however couldn’t keep the bulldogs at bay. Tough back up for blacky to face donny east Saturday on the new carpet at blacky

Mentioning Doncaster East I heard they are charging $7 a can of beer,I thought most clubs were $6.
