Interesting notes:

1) No current players in the team. Has RL quality dropped off in recent years ?

2) Only 1 direct ancestor of current AFL player made the team. Brian Bevan grandfather (?) of Sydney Swans Paul Bevan. How come Garry Jack (father of Swans Keiran Jack) didnt make it ?

3) How come the most famous player: Dally Messenger, only gets a go on the bench ?

I think greatness only grows after retirement when everybody has had the chance to reflect on your career for a while.

Didn;t know that.

How come Garry Jack (father of Swans Keiran Jack) didnt make it ?
He was good; but not that good.

Versatility.

Irrelevant to this board.

Dont see why. What could be more relevant to expansion than the definitive proof of its success when we have the grandson of a player in the "NRL team of the century" converted to AFL.
And also, the son of a legend in Keiren Jack.

Thats why we go to Sydney, and why we go to Western Sydney.... to get the best atheletes in the country playing AFL.

Current players don't have a legacy yet. That a player who retired as recently as Andrew Johns got a nod is a massive wrap for the bloke.

2) Only 1 direct ancestor of current AFL player made the team. Brian Bevan grandfather (?) of Sydney Swans Paul Bevan. How come Garry Jack (father of Swans Keiran Jack) didnt make it ?

Since Brian Bevan relocated at the age of 22 to the UK and virtually all of his direct descendants live in Blighty, you'll find that it is his great nephew.

Garry Jack isn't exactly immortal quality, which Langlands and Churchill kind of are

3) How come the most famous player: Dally Messenger, only gets a go on the bench ?

He only played 5 or so seasons of Rugby League, and though he was easily the most popular footballer in NSW, whether or not he was the most dominant of the early years is a matter of debate. Unlike Gasnier, Fulton and even Meninga, he was not the undebateable best of his generation.

Why am I giving serious answers to a thread that is clearly not serious?

Yeah, it helps him that the Sydney press wet themselves around him.

kind of are???????

Spot on.

Was Jimmy even considered for the FB's gig? I highly doubt it.

If the #1 had been awarded to anyone bar the Little Master it would have been a travesty.

Yeah, it helps him that the Sydney press wet themselves around him.

Joey deserved his place. What you Queenslanders think of him is completely irrelevant.

Fair enough re great nephew. The Bevan lineage must have been very prominant in league though. Didnt Paul Bevans father play league (or was that his uncle?)

Would Garry Jack make the 2nd's "Team of the century" ?

Whats your point?

Another stupid thread from Doctor Jolly.

Bench in the team of the century, essentially rated one of the top 17 players in history or ... custodian in the B team?

Hmmm ... ;)

Agree on Locky as I mentioned earlier.

yeh well wat i mean was that jack was the 4th best fullback at best. of course langlands should make any team of the century, he is an immortal after all.

realistically though, u would never have that bench that they picked lol.

How many Victorians were on this team?
I've got a funny feeling that like all major Australian sports the big V will be embarassingly underrepresented.

wait wait
are most of these players from NSW?
The same state that produced the best ever AFL, Cricket and Rugby Union player?
The same state that beat Victoria in AFL State of Origin the last time they played in 1990?

Post number four answers one of your three questions..

BTW: you answered that one yourself....

No, I havent answered any of my questions.

You have 4 posts in this thread, and really should have saved your energies for other pursuits because you've just wasted bandwidth.

Dont like the fact that AFL is converting NRL greats offspring? Build a bridge and get over it.

Amazing how Johns never once tested positive for drug taking.

Either did cousins.

That sums up the differences of RL to AFL in a nutshell. Cousins v Johns. AFL bans cousins indefintely. NRL puts Johns in Team of the century.
Similar to how both codes handled steriods. Justin Charles, AFL, banned, then though fan pressure driven out of the game. NRL players, banned, welcomed back.
