The protest on the main board against the Academies has fizzled out with the complainants not able to counter the sensible arguments put by our supporters and surprisingly well informed and researched rebuttals by non northern team supporters.

Loving Heeneys numbers, looks well worth our first rounder, as does Mills next year. Oh, the protests will be long and loud once those gems adorn our list!

We'll likely use our first round pick on Dunkley next year. Knightmare from the mock draft threads rates him as a top 3 pick!

Can see us having our early draft picks determined by others for the next couple of years. Heeney seems a cert to go in the bidding which will force our hand this year and on current form we'll be getting two first rounders (Mills and Dunkley) with our first couple next year. Hoping Heeney doesn't seriously hit form (until next year) as it'd be good if we didn't need to use a first rounder on him this draft. It's probably unlikely we would anyway but still....

Anyway, with these guys potentially coming in I'm imagining we'll be heavy traders the next couple of years - just so we can have live picks early.

With all these mids coming in theres no reason we cant trade off a ready Made mid for a first rounder, that would free up some coin

Reading though the early exchanges suggest we might only have to use our 2nd Round Pick on Heeney as while he is a 1st Round Pick, he is a late First Round Pick and clubs might not bid low enough to force us to use our 1st Round Pick on him, which would be good.

Yeah there is. They aren't ready made replacements like you seem to think (see Perris) and we have O'Keefe likely to leave to the club. Add to the fact the club might have other positions in mind for these players (half back flankers, small forward etc), they all won't develop to make our list (more next years group) for different reasons if that is to happens and there is enough retirements coming up to free up some "coin".

With Mitchell in reserves and Lloyds form it is quite encouraging, if we were offered a pick from 2-5 it would be worth thinking about as there are some good KPP in this years draft. We have Perris, Jones, Hewett, Lloyd showing good signs and another say 4 acedemy mids coming thru.

That's the way I'd be playing it.

FWIW - they're big kids too... Heeney is 187, Mills is already 186 and from memory Josh Dunkley is 188 - not sure they'll grow out of the midfield but that's some serious grunt to be picking up

p.s hope Jackson Kelly makes it. Imagine seeing a Dunkley, a Mitchell and a Kelly running around in the same team - oh, what memories those names bring back!

Pick up a Sam Durdin type in the draft (197cm KPD) and free up 500k

We won't be offered a pick that early for starters, regardless of who we offer. We don't have a need for a KPF and the KPD's aren't slated to go THAT early. Your basically on a flying mission to make a trade that will gain us another midfielder because of the clubs drafting policy (don't draft for need and go for talls late). No point pointing out who we have on our list as they aren't players to be added - we already have them. As for the academy you can only count on Heeney at this stage, with Mills likely with a year of development left more than likely to happen. But anyone else is overstating things. Dunkley is a bonus as a F/S pick. Also your forgetting once the bidding process in locked in thats less we have to work with at the trade table to do your proposed "deal".

Sam Durdin is a KPD/KPF some say he couldnt even reach pick 1

So basically a swing man. Honestly

Not when we tell him he'll never see the forward 50 for the rest of his time with us.... we won't get him but he's a tall guy waiting for a team to decide for him, it's all about strings in the bow for the moment.

Besides LRT needs replacing at some stage

Richards isnt getting any younger either

True and I'm still not 100% sold on Grundy anyway. Unless Reid can bridge the gap and become a KPD in the future we have a pretty big hole that needs filling - there's just too big an age gap between Grundy/Richards and the next bracket of players. I like Aliir but we should have gone for Tippett, we need a ready made AFL size player in case we get injuries.

Anyway, back to the Durdin talk, I rate him but just couldn't go past Lever. If he comes back from injury well he's got marque player written all over him. Might not even need to trade to get to his position. Going to be interesting what happens with Gibbs and Frawley, if they go as free agents the compensation will push us down a couple of pegs and make the equation that much harder... although it might make those teams a stronger trading posibility?
