Fact is, (relating to the Nick Stevens/Majak Daw incidents) Jill Meagher's killer had a history of violence/sexual crimes against women, and was basically given inappropriate slap on the wrist sentences, should never have been allowed out of prison to butcher that poor, beautiful woman.

I am sick and tired of crimes against women in Australia not given the appropriate adjudication by magistrates (how Matthew Newton has escaped conviction for several counts of battering two partners sickens me)

Nick Stevens should get at least 5 years (minimum) for what he did to his partner (at the very least she will probably have post traumatic stress disorder and other conditions like anxiety/depression for the rest if her life) and Majak Daw was old enough to realize/know what he is alleged to have done was wrong.

And Milne's sentence was joke. Real men don't hit/threaten/sexually abuse women.
Especially considering that around 50 percent of AFL club members are women, the AFL should do more to take a stance on domestic violence/abuse against women. Majak Daw should be stood down indefinitely from NM (unable to train etc) until after his trial is over at the very least..

Should Daw not be presumed innocent?

He's reportedly done a number of dodgy things during his adolescence but seems people on here are steadfast in delivering a guilty verdict without knowing the facts.
Yep.

At the very least, i don't think its a good image for the game or community in general to allow a player on trial for rape to keep playing in the AFL. Have no problem with him playing in the VFL with Werribee whilst he is on trial, but having him part of NM's senior team during the season, would be a major media circus/distraction for North as well.

These are very serious charges (and yes, I agree Daw should be considered innocent till proven guilty) ..

Frost and Keeffe did a reasonable job for them.

Will be interesting to see what the young kids like Adams, Freeman, De Goey, Kennedy, Broomhead give the Pies in 2015.

They currently look like:

FB: Langdon, Brown, Toovey
HB: Williams, Reid, Goldsack
C: Sidebottom, Swan, Greenwood
HF: Varcoe, White, Blair
FF: Witts, Cloke, Elliot
R: Grundy, Pendelbury, Macaffer
IC: Seedsman, Adams, Broomhead, Crisp

EM: Kennedy, Dwyer, Freeman, De Goey, Fasolo, Young

I don't know...this just doesn't strike fear into me. On their day this side has the parts to beat a side like Carlton but it looks very similar to the make up of our side without the good ball users.

Carlton & Collingwood have had a shocking run of injury in the 2012-2014 period and when the bad news starts coming through early on in the pre-season, you invariably brace for the inevitable succession of injuries to follow.

Reid and Brown are their key defenders yet neither can be asked to play the year out without further injury.......won't happen and the heat may really come onto their back-line.

The fittest lists walking into the new season will get the best shot at making impact.
Walk into the season wounded as we had last year and it's just much too hard.

Hadn't read this thread for a while.

It's turned into the violence against women thread. Such a shame.

Not that we are talking about it and condemning it, because that is absolutely the right thing. The really disappointing thing is there is so much of it that doesn't get reported and dealt with properly.

Ben Reid does another calf...

6 weeks...

That hurts the pies big time...!

Ben Reid is my favourite magpie player.

I can't see them holding out for him any longer. Just as injury prone as Jarrad Waite and arguably as important to their team as Jarrod was to us.

I am baffled how many Pies fans honestly think Varcoe and Greenwood will be adequate short term replacements for an A-Grader yet to enter his prime in Beams.

Greenwood had a decent season at North in 2014 (did nothing special before that) and frankly Varcoe is far too inconsistent, there is a massive chasm between his best and worst footy.

There forward line looked decidedly too one dimensional last season with only Cloke holding down the fort, Jesse White being another Buckley top-up blunder.

You can cut them slack for injuries in the last 2 years, but you have to wonder if the Pies really needed to embark on this somewhat drastic list overhaul after Mick left, Heath Shaw was a big loss for them and they will sorely miss Lumumba (finished 5th in the Copeland)
Hopefully Broomhead and Kennedy can kick on in 2015, or the Pies could be in for a real season of pain (possible bottom 4 material)

Nothing to do with Carlton but still a nice watch.

Just reminds one that there are good kids, families and friends behind them so before we readily spew forth vitriol upon them because of their adopted homes they had no control over, we should remember......

In the current climate it's great to see such an uplifting story.
Dreams can still come true.
Good luck to the kid.
Will watch with interest

Edit - Just read that he is going in for foot surgery......

He's right.
Thy smuggled a Souvlaki in his backpack for me a few years ago.
The "security guard" barely looked in the bag.

Thy is right, he could have taken anything in that day.
I just flat out walk in with them in hand. Been told once it twice it's a no no. We laugh at them and enter anyway.

You just can't but help smile at stuff like that.
