Ah, but he was dropped, and it was the making of him and contributed to a big win. So maybe McRae’s playing chess and we’re all playing checkers? ;)

Silly comment. He was terrible last week and we had proven forwards returning. He was clearly sensational today so that's wonderful. Why the endless potshots?

I guess when you’re opening gambit is that he was terrible last week you leave yourself open to people responding accordingly. Much like the post you quoted was responding to. His conversion was ordinary but anyone generating a 1/2 dozen scoring opportunities as a forward is hardly having a terrible game. Fly said as much. He needs to take those opportunities. I’d say that he was retained as the sub was testament if any was needed that his game wasn’t terrible.

I think the comparisons to Curnow and Gunstan aren’t too far off the mark of how impactful Ollie could be given time.
Spot on Molly , if this kid Henry had half the self belief and self confidence of the Ginnivan. he will leave an indelible legacy on both the game and our footy club . All between the ears for him .

Checkers was always going to be selected

I can’t ethically give you an jathanas De Niro, so this will have to serve.

You wouldn’t have a clue what is going on in Henry’s head. None of us do.
Missing goals doesn’t mean he lacks confidence in himself.

Cox started in the ruck…. just saying.
If he’s fit, I’d like to see him start in the ruck again. We need to try and get first use out of the centre.
Must be aggressive against Carlton.

He said in an interview on the weekend that he’d psyched himself out against the Dogs and in the week leading up to the Freo game he’d worked on his routine with Josh Fraser and also on making sure he remained calm and didn’t get too worked up.

Sounds like he is working hard to correct his goal kicking issues.
Shows confidence in himself in my opinion.

Exactly, one off game ( and it wasn’t even that bad, he was still clunking marks) does not imply he has any confidence issues. It’s how players respond to adversity that is the measure of their character.

We've seen him snap some stunners, so maybe its been a case of overthinking what to do.
In any case, the fact that he worked hard with Josh Fraser during the week leading up to the Freo game is very encouraging.
Then getting the results reinforces the value of that work.

I might be missing something but weren't all the goals he kicked against Freo routine? Keen to see him start nailing them in the same positions he was missing them against the Dogs.

I think it just snowballed on him. That happens. The only really concerning thing for me against the Bulldogs was that he was giving up responsibility to his teammates. If he isn’t prepared to risk failure he has no place in the side. Luckily he was willing to roll the dice when he got his chance as the sub against Freo; as I mentioned it may be that he felt he had nothing to lose, being a sub.

I missed the Dogs and Tigers games so I don’t have a great perspective on all things Henry. Was his marking “on” in those two matches? Goal kicking comes and goes with the ebb and flow of footy unless you’re Plugger or Walker. Some weeks you get a bunch of opportunities dead in front and burn them only to then convert the 50/50 ones the week after. In Henry’s case I haven’t looked at his goal kicking as fundamentally flawed like say Cloke or M King.

The barometer for Henry’s game though is his marking which had all but deserted him when he was dropped following the WC game and a couple of times v Fremantle they just stuck. That to me is a better sign of his development especially as the grounds are now softer and heavier.

What I liked jmac was that he wasn’t holding back when asked and was happy to note that he’d psyched himself out against the Dogs and that he’d worked on it.

Seems like a good character trait where he owned the problem and went to work on how he could address it.
