Where I was watching from I actually saw the umpire before the ball went through. So I knew unfortunately it was a free straight away.
Yeah I’ve watched it on replay a couple of times and he blows the whistle pretty early.
I was at the opposite end.

Bring back memories of great finals we played in that period.
The 2007 prelim was one of the greats as well. Amazing tension.

Outside of 2009-2010, I've never really considered the Saints much of a rivalry, but some of those guys certainly enjoyed yesterday...

It's vastly overblown. Sounds like supporters trying to find a way to rationalise poor performances.

Essendon, North, and GWS didn't seem exactly super motivated.
The poor performances are obvious to all, I would have thought. And there is no place for excusing them.

None of which changes the fact that motivated (and better quality) opposition is always more likely to make you pay for your mediocrity than teams that are barely going or barely caring.

Teams mostly do get up to play us. That's pretty unsurprising, after how many times we've beaten most of them over recent years. So it's up to us to lift our rating to match their determination. In the end, we haven't been good enough for long enough in recent weeks against decent teams with high motivation.

Which is totally on us but credit to them.

Was leaving the ground last night and walked past the Platform 28 bar. No idea if St. Kilda have a post-game function there, but they were belting out the club song.

Had to make sure it was May and not September.

Cannot remember ever doing the same after a Geelong H&A victory.

There’s a lady who posts videos of singing the saints song on social media.
Starts off with the loudest creature like KNOCK KNOCK.

I did see a post from her yesterday at platform 28
So I suggest it’s all in good fun

Sorry Pussy Cats but you must be the greatest free kick winners on earth, Tom Hawkins must have statistics that tell that his goal scoring prowess is mainly because of the free kicks he wins, for arm knocking over the shoulder or some other kind of bulldust free the ump can pick out.
TOM IS NOT TO BLAME FOR BEING THE BEST FREE KICK GOAL SCORER GOING AROUND , EXCEPT WHEN HE MARKS 9 METRE KICKS OR PUSHES AN OPPOPNENT CLEAN IN THE BACK BUT GETS NOTHING BUT A SHOT AT GOAL. sorry for the caps accident.
But I saw Tom get a goal while both players were contesting but Hawkins is that wide that really the free kick name for Tom Hawkinsshould be made as Tom free kick because his opponent tried to defend against him.
Now why doesn't Franklin get those frees, last night he caught two Carlton blokes clean as a whistle and got nothing , NOTHING,
bUT tOM hAWKINS ONLY HAS TO RUN AT THE BALL AND GETS A FREE.
I THINK THAT THE DEFENDER SHOULD GET SOME LEWAY IN THE WAY THE UMPIRES CAN EASILY PICK A FREE FOR tOM BECAUSE IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, TOO MANY FREE KICKS, FROM DEFENDING, OH bloody caps again. After Toms adventures I saw two or three frees in a row to Geelong now outdoing the WCE as the umpires favourite colour , or what ever it is that gets this club frees.
Then you see Tom later in that quarter appealing for a deliberate , really, does Scott train these boys to hunt free kicks down, ALL CLUBS DO IT, to a degree , but not like Geelong, and Selwood definitely practices free kick gathering by arm up shoulder drop and Dangermouse gets frees come out of his ears!!!
When will we get some help for defenders, because the idea of defending is to punch the ball away from the forward who usually playing to his team mates kick, who is usually in FRONT!
Surely the defender has to be given some allowances to hit a shoulder or an arm because it is UNFAIR.
Now don't get me wrong Tom is a great kick and can play the game really well, buthe has to have the limit as best goals numbers from frees.
In fact the whole AFL has too many goals from free kicks, and we know the gambling industry is burying itself in the AFL I wonder if there's big dough out for Scotts last harrah!
This is contravercial hey? Give it some comments. No don't get angry it happens to all defenders now!

I’d like to know how many free kicks Hawkins actually gets that convert into a score

It would be absolutely f all

Not as many as he should have. Reckon he's paid the price for being so strong for most of his career.

He receives a rare soft one a week after probably getting away with one and he's become a protected species. Got to love opposition fans!

Interesting take considering I thought Port had the rub of the green with the umpires for a large chunk of yesterday, particularly in the ruck.
“Interesting” is being very kind.

Anyone want to post the following in response to the above rant

This one is genuinely amazing. So much time and effort put into writing such a long post of pure drivel

Interesting take considering I thought Port had the rub of the green with the umpires for a large chunk of yesterday, particularly in the ruck.

Indeed...Hawkins now seems to be pinged a bit for a 'block' when he plants his frame to the contest and the other bloke runs into him, yet Powell-Pepper got a free kick for the Geelong bloke making contact with him when he did the same thing. These blocking frees are starting to nullify Hawkin's ruck prowess in the forward line, and it seems for no more reason than he's a big powerful bloke that holds his ground. And you get these others who fall down like autumn leaves and get a free for being weak-bodied.

All from one very upset poster:

"I have seen worse games. but this is a good example of true afl cheats. top to bottom. they are true scum. true cheat."

"The afl are systematic cheats"

"It was good systematic cheating by the afl. well done afl cheats.

i thought you had lost your cheating powers.

but you are still strong and well.

thank god you have a tiny percent of fanatical private school boy lads to continue your cheating"

"It's systematic cheating. the afl had decided a long way out who it wants. port are never wants. 90% of the afl umps are victorian private school boys."

Some real mental giants posting over there.
Good to see we still trigger them 15 years later.
Laughable.
