Geelong has flat-batted Fremantle’s trade offer for Jordan Clark.

Foxfooty.com.au understands the Cats said no to a straight swap for Pick 27 late last week, believing Clark is worth more given he’s a contracted player.

But Fremantle’s proposal was based on the premise that Clark has not been able to cement himself in Chris Scott’s best 22 on a weekly basis since debuting in 2019.

In the meantime, the Dockers are waiting on acquiring more selections from Carlton for Adam Cerra, who is certain to land at the Blues for a deal involving Pick 6.

Negotiations between Carlton and Fremantle are now focused on later selections across the 2021 and 2022 drafts.

The Dockers would love a future second rounder plus Pick 6, but may need to hand back some selections if this comes to fruition.

This is similar to Adam Saad’s trade from Essendon to Carlton last year, which was essentially anchored by Pick 8 but ended up including a flurry of later picks too.

Both parties are supremely confident a deal will get done. The trade could see the Blues and Dockers swap Picks 25 and 27 too.

Fremantle is also open to adding Will Brodie to its midfield mix, but would almost certainly seek to bring him in as a delisted free agent from Gold Coast, rather than via a trade.

take it and run Geelong. You're not playing him.

So Cats have rejected Freo's offer of 27 for Clark.

Freo and Blues have agreed on pick 6 for Cerra and are now haggling over later picks.

Freo apparently interested in Will Brodie but want him as a DFA rather than a trade. How exactly will they get Brodie as a DFA given he's contracted?

Geelong should have taken that.
They aren't playing him. Contracted or not

I always thought he showed a bit

I don't think he's shithause, but I also don't think he's worth more than a mid to late 20s pick. Geelong are in such a strange spot at the moment. Bringing in Cameron and the other vets suggest you've got no choice but to go again. But they've already been overtaken.

Trouble lol

Richmond’s trade with North Melbourne for ruckman Callum Coleman-Jones has hit an early roadblock given the Roos’ modest offerings for the developing key tall.
The Roos have been steadfast they will not offer up their pick 20 for a player who was drafted four years ago with that same pick – No. 20 – in the 2017 national draft.

The Tigers early threat will be to retain Coleman-Jones if a deal cannot be struck to compensate them for losing a player they believe has a huge future in the AFL.

That threat is less realistic given the Roos have pick one in the pre-season draft and could secure Coleman-Jones without having to hand over a national draft pick.

The Roos next pick after 20 is 38, but Richmond will want a selection closer to 20 to orchestrate a trade for Coleman-Jones.

Hopes the trade that would also see Robbie Tarrant get to Punt Road might proceed smoothly have evaporated

Trouble lol

As much as I'd love this to fall through and have North walk CCJ to the PSD, it's funny how all these trades "hit a roadblock" on the first day and then are miraculously ready to sail through from 6:30pm next Wednesday when Hutchy gives permission.

Of course! Haha. All par to the course of drama on the first day.
