Our Best 22 in 2010 - harder than you think

Interesting to note that despite all the plaudits he seems to be getting after this weekend, no one has Harro in our best 22 for next year at all.

Do we retain him as a depth player, or let him go?

Anyone who doesn't have Firrito in our best 22 please share your drugs.

Mine. All mine.

I love Spud, but I don't see him on a Grand Final dais.

I picked the team I want to see to move forward (no place for Pratt either) and that doesn't include any incumbents between now and then.

Depends what the new coach wants to do with the squad. If he wants to win then Harro will be starting 18. If he wants to rebuild he could be on the bench. Swallow has a history of having a shocker every 2nd year and mightnt be the answer to winning clearances for a few more years yet. Looks shiny and all but tackling wont win clearances.
Its the chicken or the egg. Rawlings and Power get 25 possesions, Swallow 10 tackles but we win 5 games for the year.
Surely Ziebell deserves another bake Wiko.

Keep him for depth.

Nothing to lose by doing so. There should be others delisted ahead of him to free up enough spots for the draft.

as much as i like him, i would trade him if we can, if not delist him. he will not be featuring in the best 22 when north become a top 4 team again.

I'm on the same boat filth. Can't see us moving forward with so many 'work horse' type players in our team like firrito and pratt.

I was going to do what I usually do, and ignore the crap that you type. But this one is just too ridiculous (even for you) to pass up.

You're suggesting that Swallow, who has been on the list for just over 3 years, has a "history" of having a shocker every 2nd year?

He was excellent in 07. Poor for a few games then Injured in 08. Excellent so far in 09.

And what's this crap about giving Ziebell another bake? I love the kid and have never said anything bad about him.

Best team 2010 - presuming the curse that has crippled us this year goes and pisses off somewhere else...

B:McMahon(184cm) Thompson(190cm) Gibson(189cm)
HB:Wells(180cm) Grima (193cm) J.W.Smith (191cm)
C:Anthony(189cm) Urquhart/Adams (181/179cm) Ross(179cm)
HF:Wright(188cm) Hansen(197cm) Warren (186cm)
F:Harvey(172cm) Petrie(197cm) Campbell(174cm)

R:Macintosh(203cm) Swallow(183cm) Ziebell(188cm)

I:Goldstein(201cm) Thomas(181cm) Harding(181cm) Greenwood(181cm)

E:Urquhart/Adams, Tarrant, Firrito, Lucas, Jones, Harris, Garlett

Midfield rotations of: Harvey, Ross, Greenwood, Wright, Harding, Anthony, Ziebell, Swallow, Urquhart/Adams.

Greenwood as tagger.

I couldn't really decide on the last mid-field spot. Patch hasn't shown enough to be considered a shoe-in at all, but Urquhart has been dismal of late. I'm sure he can turn it around.

That defense looks as solid as a rock with heaps of rebound. I'm not sold on Lachie at CHF. We will see how the experiment goes. If Hansen is pushed back, Tarrant comes in (if available) and Wells moves into the mid-field.

Good ruck stocks as well. The forward line seems a bit too much like an extension of the middle though - really relies on versatility more than anything else.

Obviously the way you slobber all over Spitz, spit all over Harro and open up Ziebs to comparison with a readymade player it makes enjoyable illogical banter with your goodself. Really in a leauge of your own with some of this stuff. But makes BF more interesting if not less accurate.

B: Harding - Thompson - Gibson

HB: Wells - Grima - McMahon

C: Anthony - Swallow - Urquhart

HF: Warren - Hansen - Harvey

F: Thomas - Petrie - Campbell

R: McIntosh - Ziebell - Greenwood

I: Goldstein - Ross - Firrito - Adams

B: Josh Gibson Nathan Grima Scott Thompson
HB: Daniel Wells Lachlan Hansen Scott McMahon
C: Jesse Smith Jack Ziebell Liam Anthony
HF: Brent Harvey Drew Petrie Ben Warren
F: Matt Campbell Robbie Tarrant Lindsay Thomas
R: Hamish McIntosh Draft Pick Andrew Swallow
I: Leigh Harding Gavin Urquhart Ben Ross Todd Goldstein
E: Michel Firrito Daniel Pratt Brady Rawlings

-Then theres ?Hale?Harris?Greenwood?Adams?Edwards?Lower?Jones?
-Thankfully this year the departure of Simmo with Riggio, Power and Watt finished will qualify the 4 changes.
-And that starting 22 has only 4 players with 5+years experience.

I'd say that excellent is over stating his season, he has been good, but from a midfielder who spends at least 80% on average TOG per a game you would hope for more return.

Round 1 2010, fully fit, not including new draftees.

FOLL: Hamish McIntosh - Andrew Swallow - Jack Ziebell

Tarrant, Ross, Wright and first round draft pick to cement position in 22 by season's end.

Delisted: Cruize Garlett, Ed Lower, Sam Power, Matt Riggio, Josh Smith

This is the team the coach should be aiming to put on the field next year

B Gibson Thompson Mcmahon
HB Harding Grima Smith
C Anthony Ziebell Wells
HF Warren Hansen Harvey
F Campbell Petrie Thomas
Foll H Mac Swallow Greenwood
Int Goldstein Firrito Lower next year's first rounder

Lower has more a better overheard mark and can be a defensive forward adams is just a good in and under player. Harris must be kept as a back up to swallow because there is no other clearance players and hopefully he can add goal kicking to his cv like jobe watson has done this year. Futhermore if smith is injuired Power has to be put in his place because Greenwood will get cut up by taller midfielders such as Pendlebury, Young, Goddard. Bruce would of dominated him last saturday if he wasnt playing with injury as well Judd was playing a more forward role a fortnight ago.

Doubt we will be running with a defensive forward on top of the Cambos of this world.
Judd was pushed forward after being given a bath and the Bruce comment is out there. O evidence of that comment.

Have to agree. If Spud is in our best 22, I don't think we are going anywhere. Same with Power and Rawlings (probably Harris too).

I can't even remember the last time Spud played a good game. Trying him in the midfield is a joke - he's too slow and undisciplined. Same thing with Gibson in the midfield - very one sided, and no awareness. Likes to do massive U turns and get caught with the ball. At least he is a decent defender at times, unlike Spud.

The reason why our best 22 might be difficult for some is because there are 2-4 absolute plodders who are just serviceable most weeks and it's hard to make the call on them because they are great blokes and some have become fan favourites over the years.

B: Gibson Grima Pratt
HB: JW Smith Thompson McMahon
C: Urquhart Anthony Wells
HF: Warren Hansen Campbell
FF: Harvey Petrie Thomas
Foll: Macintosh Ziebell Swallow
Int: Goldstein Harding Greenwood Harris

Close: Jones Hale Lower Firrito Wright Ross Adams

If Jesse Smith never gets his body right :)() then Turtle takes his place & hopefully our next first round pick joins the bench.

Don't think we need a massive cleanout as our list has already turned over so much recently. As well as Simmo, I think Watt, Edwards, the rookies & possibly Rawlings/Power will be gone at the end of this season.

I wonder if people will have Rawlings in their teams when he does a job on LeCras this week.

BUMP*
After JudasW and the less talented JudasGibson have pissed off and we've done our delistings, it'd be interesting to see people's renewed thoughts. (Assuming we take Cunnington)

Thompson Grima Pratt (07/08 form)
Urquhart Hansen McMahon
Anthony Ziebell Wells
Warren Petrie Harvey
Campbell Tarrant Thomas

HMAC, Swallow, Cunnington

Goldstein, Greenwood, Rawlings, Harding.

If he can have a good pre-season, i'd think about maybe swapping Rawlings with Wright to give us another forward/flanker option.

The positive thing is that we have guys like Firrito, Wright, Adams, Ross, Cruize, pick21,25, Hale, Jones etc that aren't making it into this team.
Hopefully (if we go with Cunnington) Pick 21 can get us a key forward to provide coverage for Petrie and Tarrant (with a move towards making it a Tarrant/21 forward line- forwards under consideration at this pick would be Panos, Black, Carlisle, Griffiths) and hopefully picks 25, 38,41 can then be used on either a good HFF (like Andrew Moore, Taylor or Mitch Duncan) and/or a succession of quick 'outside' midfielders ( Collyer, Ah Chee, Christensen).
