Value on the market suggests they are no longer worth that.....Docherty on the other hand.

How can you say Docherty and Karnezis are worth first and second draft picks, but Lucas and Hampson aren't. Karnezis or however he's spelt has done SFA at his time in Brisbane, would not be worth a second rounder anymore. Docherty looks promising though. However, Lucas has done more than both Brisbane players.

I can't explain why, but for all the Gibbs to SA talk, for some reason Bryce (despite how laconic he can appear etc) seems to me like he's very much a Blue Boy and happy where he is and wouldn't leave unless pushed.

Could be wrong but. 'tis just my impression.

He's probably the player who has disappointed, disgusted and dismayed me more than any other - but he's ours and I want to keep him. Excited by his recent surge in effort and endeavor.

**** all these players wanting to go to Collingwood. Bloody annoying especially when their coach has openly questioned if they have culture issues.

Really? Finished well but other than that it seemed like regular laconic Gibbs to me!

Not sure why people think he's untouchable, he shouldn't be, go searching through our votes!
LOL.

If Carlton supporters were in charge of the club, you'd be part of the select group that would trade Gibbs, Kreuzer and Yarran for Talia, Adams and Gaff.

IMO Gibbs and Kreuzer untouchable. Some much class and grit between them. Next year i beleive Gibbsy will be our best mid and Kreuzer will be a top 5 ruck (if he already isn't).
Yaz and Warnock can go, AT THE RIGHT PRICE. No point trading Yarran for a late 1st round and Warnock for a 3rd round, that's just dumb and people who are touting that cannot be serious.

Also Robinson MUST stay. For me he's our barometer

Would we be interested in Sylvia? Depends what his mother says I suppose ...

Last I heard is that we're very interested in Sylvia.

Huge talent but doesn't have the heart or the head to produce consistently. I'd absolutely hate to see him at our club and hope he decides to stay loyal to the Demons.

That's taking it to extremes. Bryce hasn't made an AA side or even won a B & F, but he's not a frustrating talent like Hampson, Warnock or even Robinson. Has played elite football like Yarran and won games off his own boot. Before Judd went nuts after half time, Gibbs sliced North up with just 20 touches and a lazy four goals as a mid. Kept us in the game with the Roos surging.

Round 19:
North Melbourne 9.8 (62) Carlton 11.14 (80) at ES
3. B Gibbs (Ca)
2. A Swallow (NM)
1. C Judd (Ca)

Some people can't see the forest for the trees.

What you say is 100% correct and if he puts in those performances for another team consistently I'd probably cry. Untradeable.

Didn't we only win that game by a point? North mad a massive comeback?

Coming for the renowned captain negative himself? Hmm.

I would explore options from a guy that hasn't shown true potential yes. Only for the right thing though! Rory sloane yes, Adams & a pick yes. Go through the year & see the frustration for him. Just cause he finished the round with a few birdies makes you want to remember that? He had plenty of double bogeys too!

Untouchable is a shit term & could only maybe fit 4 players max in there. Players are expendable for the right deal as are the ones you mentioned, but only 1 or 2 at once!

Would you really prefer yarran over Adams?

Would you take warnock ruck & Patton forward or

Kreuzer rucking & a poor casboult as our target?

We need to explore our options? We have been mediocre for a long time with our poor list management. Time to act!

We know we will, we just don't know how yet.

We're not entering rebuild mode so there will be top up of the right senior personnel along with a healthy dip into the drafts.

Whichever way, I'm much more than confident that we'll have a better fitting 44 in December than we did in August. That's obvious.

Rather than "untouchable" perhaps we should be looking at building a "core".

A team's "core" are a group of players close enough to one another in age that they can expect their best football (say, age 22-28) to largely overlap. The core should include key structural elements such as midfielders capable of regularly getting 30+ touches, at least one key forward target who can reliably kick 40-50+ goals playing as a permanent forward, at least one key defender, and whoever else is key to the team's game style. There are always exceptions to this, but as a rule of thumb is kind of holds true. For what it's worth, ruckman tend not to be "core".

This core is who you do not allow to leave. You always have them under contract, and their contractual needs are a priority. A good enough core enables a team to perennially challenge, or at the very least start from a base "OK, we have *this* covered, what else do we need?" each year.

At Hawthorn, the core would be Hodge, Lewis, Mitchell, Franklin, Roughead, Birchall, Rioli. They bought in Gibson who became part of it, as he's probably a better player anyone gave him credit for. Everything else they've brought in, targeted at drafts and in trade week is to supplement and operate around this core. That's not to say they don't have other good players, or important players, but to me this is the core. Sewell is expendable. Hale could be traded. Lake was a late addition to fill a need. Those top 8 guys ARE "this" Hawthorn side.

Down at the Blue boys, our core is... kinda all over the place. It's Judd, who is almost done (physically). It's Murphy (tick), Gibbs (partial tick), now Henderson. Simpson, Walker. Jamison. The big challenge here is it's not good enough. It's spread over a big age range, not peaking together, and doesn't contain the KPP elements needed. We're convincing ourselves Kreuzer is in it too - OK, but as an asset, I think you buy ruckmen. You can always buy one when you need one, but you can NEVER buy a KPF. Nobody is giving away AA CHBs, either. Or midfielders in their prime. Without a settled and strong core that knows their role and grows together, our team lacks spine and identity. We don't know what we need to go and get in trade week, because we kinda need everything. And we're looking for replacements for our core, because some are almost done, and we don't have them.

So that's my rambling essay on "core" instead of "untouchable". I reckon until you have a clear, strong "core", nobody is untouchable. Whilst Gibbs and Kreuzer are playing out of position, they're not core. Guys who cannot be relied upon (Waite, Garlett) can never really be core. I think we've been built wrong for a decade. We've drafted poorly, and the wrong types in the wrong order. And what we have right now is the list to prove it. There's lots of good players, and nice things, and handy bits and pieces. But basically it's a list that lacks the "core" and spine to really go places.

QFT.

just noticed Callum Bartlett has been de-listed by Brisbane. after watching his u18 2009 year on YouTube, the guy looks great. if it wasn't for his injury's he could of been a great player by now. Wouldn't mind giving him a shot on the rookie list if he passes a medical test.
guy was an out and out gun! such a shame his injuries has ruined his career today. I was a massive fan of his leading up to the draft!
