Sorry Jeremias, but isn't this a bit contradictory to your assessment of White?

White cemented his spot at senior level but you put that down to "cementing his spot because no one else was available", but when Everitt cements his spot it's genuine?

He's a bit of a utility and can play forward or back, I remember him being subbed on for Goodes vs Geelong last year and kicking the winning goal from 50 out close to the boundary. Good game actually.

I do take your point but I certainly feel Everitt has made more of himself at AFL level than White. Ultimately neither of them are world beaters but I do acknowledge that whilst both are average/solid footballers at best, at the very least they provide adequate depth for any club that has them on their books.

Talent has never really been the issue for either Everitt or White. Both have unquestionable talent and certainly at their best can contribute. However both have, for whatever reason, struggled to translate that into consistent quality performances at AFL level.

To a large extent Everitt managed to turn that around this season. Went from a peripheral player to a best 22 player and I don't believe he had as much help along the way with team mates being struck down by injury as what White did. Everitt worked hard, managed to break into the side and keep his spot for the majority of the season.

I certainly don't feel that White has been as successful as Everitt in that regard. I also believe his standing in the Sydney senior side was assisted to a significantly larger extent by injuries than what Everitt's was. There is no doubt that White put in some very good AFL performances this year. As I said, he does have the requisite quality to make you sometimes really notice him and go "wow" at what he can produce. However consistency is the real issue for him and just as he can really produce to a high level, he's likely to follow that up with a month or more of genuine anonymity. That's not a question of talent but rather the main issues there are work rate and desire. I think Jesse is a very lazy footballer and this inconsistency is the product of that. I have grave doubts that a fresh start after so many years in the system can change that, but I wish him luck and am happy enough to stand corrected. I just don't think he'll get there.

Lazyness was also an issue for Everitt because the talent has never been a question. Clearly had enormous talent as a junior and had shown flashes both at the Bulldogs and indeed at Sydney before really stepping it up a notch this season. To his credit he worked hard and was rewarded accordingly.

I do take your point and it is a good question you ask. However there is no doubt in my mind that Everitt has progressed more successfully in the Sydney system than White managed.

Personally I believe that the reason Everitt and White haven't had wonderful careers to date is due to there lack of aggression.
