Can't help but be pleased with the outcome of FA/Trade period. To attract 3 former first round draft picks to the club, whilst hanging onto our 1st round pick for this year, is a credit to Andrew McKay & MM (MM was obviously the reason for Thomas coming to the club & it would seem Everitt as well). It is not often, unless you are GWS or GCS, that you get to add 4 1st round draft picks to your list in one year. The club is clearly getting smarter in its list management, despite not having a designated List Manager.

You can't help but be a little bit optimistic about 2014 with what we have added to the list whilst not losing too much in the process. Thomas brings a similar level of experience to the list to what we lost with Betts going & Everitt comes from the same draft as Hammer, so we lose nothing there as well. Docherty of cause is a bonus, bringing us up higher in the 2011 draft than what we originally were with Boots at 22.

I think this has been an outstanding FA/Trade period from the club & taking into account the players we have delisted, I believe our list is now stronger than what it was at the end of the 2013 season.

Shipped off surplus players.

Did a great job of filling holes with outside movers and shakers. Patched over the forward line again, but there wasn't really anyone in our price range who was significantly better than what we have, especially once Roos convinced Watts to stay at the Dees.

Damn sight happier than this time last year. 7.5/10, would caress lovingly.

Pretty happy overall with our October. Grabbed Daisy effectively for Eddie, Docherty for Hammer and Everitt for a slight pick downgrade.

Addressed our needs (bar KPF) in running players and more versatility, whilst cutting deadwood from the list and the players we lost were in an area of strength for us (Ruck + Small Fwd).

Brought in 3 x best 22 players, immediately helping to bridge that gap between our 5 best and 5 worst in our 22, which was one of McKay's goals. Kudos to him and MM for a good month overall.

As for Guernsey #'s, Thommo's already snagged 39 (I bet the others will be jealous), whilst Doc and Everitt will have their pick from the following:

15, 16, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25 or one in the 30's/40's.

I can see Doc taking either 15 or 20, whilst Everitt would suit 22.

The key forward we grab will most likely be given 25 (Thorp, maybe?) and our first pick will be given 16 in my eyes (unless is a KPF).

Bring on the draft hype and phantoms.

Like most here on the forum, I am happy with the outcome. 3 quality players that could arguably slip straight in to our best 22.

Great result, with more upside to come in the draft. I just wonder whether Thorp could be the dark horse pick up in the PSD.
I don't know why, but I think he's got a point to prove in the AFL.

Go Blues.

Reckon we paid a bit much for Everitt, but In Mick We Trust.
Not sure about that. Picks above 30 are fairly speculative and the difference between a player at pick 32 and 39 may not be that great. Also there's no guarantee pick 32 will be a better player than the one picked at 39.

I'm sure someone could do a comparison of the #32 and #39 players over the past 20 years to prove my point.:D

I'd like to see him predominately playing a high half-forward type role, similar to Buddy. Also rotating into the midfield/wing. Dont think we really need him as 3rd tall as we have McInness/White to fill that role.

Would like to see 16 go to a good home, and hope they're as good as the legendary one-club champion Camporeale* was in his prime

* Consciously ignoring his ill-fated two seasons as a Bomber, as I'm sure Campo does ;)

I had a look over the last 5 years, as prior to this #39 had been used for a few F/S picks (Travis Cloke, Darcy Daniher & Jay Neagle) & following is the score:
2008
32. Liam Jones
39. Steven Motlop

2009
32. Nick Winmar
39. Sam Grimley

2010
32. Josh Green
39. Jeremy Taylor

2011
32. Joel Hamling
39. Michael Talia

2012
32. Michael Close
39. Max Duffy

Hard to read too much from this small sample, although a couple of the 39s i.e. Motlop & the younger Talia, both look like good pick ups. Of course the overall depth of the draft can play a part. In a weaker draft 32 & 39 are potentially going to be speculative picks.

Way in front after all this.

Eddie was a terrific player but Eddie, Garlett and Yarran were one player too many.
Thomas is an immediate top 8 player for us and Docherty has a spot waiting for him should he be good enough to go from day one as predicted by McKay
Hampson would have only played in the reserves and the virtual swap for Docherty is a no-brainer.
Everitt is the steak-knives I guess and a risk that could prove dividends as he's at the right age now to show his best.

Best of all though, we did next to no damage to our draft selections. Happy. :)

The recruitment of Docherty & Everitt makes it very clear that MM has no intention of heading down the Hawthorn 'chip-kick' road. It is going to be long kicking all the way.

We can expect to see Docherty, Everitt, Tuohy, even Watson & Boots all lining up outside 50 to receive handballs from those players who lack kicking depth.

Yeah, have to give kudos to MM & McKay. We have done really well here.

Re: the draft: I know we have Mccarthy as a potential, but I honestly want us to prioritise on several possible midfielders who, all indications are, will do extremely well. I want a killer midfield first and foremost. Get some excellent delivery inside f50 and then re-evaluate our current forwards.

I think I'd like to see something like this:

@13: Freeman, Crouch, Salem, Dunstan (in that order of priority)
@39: Lambert
@53: Thorp

Next year, operation get Frawley, perhaps.

Very excited about 2014, more so about 2015.

If we are to draft Lambert, I would prefer we got him through the Rookie Draft. Despite his very good season with the Northern Blues, I'm not sure he offers enough to warrant using a ND pick on him. He will be a good depth player, but I'm not sure he will ever be a best 22 player.

Not getting a KPF means everything else we have done means **** all because it means again we are going to go into a season reliant on Waites body/brain to hold up and play 18+ games which we simply know wont happen.

What KPF do you think we should have targeted?

For mine this is the best trade period we have had for years, the three guys we have picked up address identified needs and there is some quality there.

Whilst Eddie has always been a favourite with all of us his departure won't leave a gaping hole in the structure in the side and Hampson wasn't a regular in our best 22 at anytime.

We also have pick 13 still with us and will pick up a quality player with that.

Whilst i wouldn't get over excited thinking this will land us a premiership it is a positive step.

So which free agent key forward did you want?

There were none on offer except buddy

Jessie White, Scott Gumbleton or even Jpod are better than what we currently have.
You complain about Waite being injured and yet you list Gumbleton as someone we should've gone after? JPod is not exactly a picture of health these days either.

The only one I'd consider is White and even then it's whatever. I'd rather persist with casboult/rowe.
