Below is the smoking gun that I finally found after searching the wrong threads for ages.

It is the jumper that was apparently going to be our home jumper up until a few weeks before the new jumpers were actually announced in November last year.

Most Lions supporters who followed the issue closely on BigFooty would know that the jumpers we got were most likely a compromise put together at the last minute as a result of the big supporter backlash at the time.

So the 'Blue Paddle Pop jumper' for a long time was the plan. The Club administration had apparently decided to largely forfeit maroon / red to the Gold Coast, and to instead differentiate our Club by predominately wearing a blue jumper instead.

If that indeed was the case, what an absolute unsurpassable indictment on the Board and the CEO. Words fail me in terms of the stupidity, lack of awareness / loyalty / tradition / passion.................

What does the Club actually mean to these type of people? Is it more a 'Boys Club' badge to be able to mix with people in high places?

It is not as if they have any redeeming qualities. I mean, if we were making massive profits or reducing our debts / setting ourselves up for the future - then you could have an argument about whether it is worth it or not. But none of those things are happening or are likely to happen under the current Administration.

We don't know for a fact that this was what it was originally going to be. That design is what was described to me by someone who had a very brief offhand glimpse of potential designs.

I put 2 and 2 together and made that mockup and was told that it was close.

Certainly got the massive increase in blue correct.

I will take notice of people who change clubs who have been posting on this site for longer than a couple of weeks.

For what it's worth, I would like to see changes of the club administration but this is will never be enough for me to stop supporting our great club.

Firstly, I am not the one complaining about people supposedly tearing strips off one another. Secondly, I was actually thinking more about the time when you vilified Fitzroy supporters and Victorian-based Brisbane Lions supporters by calling us "old farts", amongst other things.

It seems you only object to such vilification if you think you're on the receiving end, but you'll happily dish it out yourself. Do you only complain about it when you feel that you've been outpointed in a discussion?

Perhaps if you refrain from contributing on the topic then you won't have to worry about it at all. Unfortunately, as you don't seem to comment much on any other topic on this forum that would probably be quite limiting for you.

Give it a rest Stocka.

I'm reminded of this every time I see the boys in their training / pre-game warm-up tops.

Run out of things to say, eh? Well then why don't you give it rest, champ? All you seemingly want to do is stir the pot by slagging off Victorian-based supporters of the Lions.

At least I actually post about football on here, unlike yourself! :D :footy:

Wanted this thread to be used to keep an eye on the Suns as they enter the comp.

Really a bit shitted off that it has turned into 6 pages of the same old jumper arguments.

I care as much about the jumper/logo as anyone else, but for the last 6 months it seems to have been nothing more than people restating their position over and over and over again and in threads where the topic is barely even relevent.

New logo lover.

:p

It'll be fascinating to see how the rivalry develops. I imagine the minute they announce they've poached one (or more) of our players we'll get a bit more engaged and it'll feel a bit more real.

Amen. Got bored of it all last December.

I'm stoked to have another team in Queensland and I think the benefits will outweigh any initial pain to us. Vossy was quizzed about it a few weeks ago (I think on OWAAT) and I agree with him that the AFL will have to look after both us and the Swans (financially) when the new teams rock-up.

Other than that there's going to be a heap more potential fans down the coast we can wind-up and more Australian Football being played in the juniors. Add to that a smart new stadium and we've got a great result for Queensland.

Look forward to belting them in Round 1!

That's fine, although you can never really control where threads go.

This was a completely new aspect of the jumper / logo debate that has basically not be discussed in a great deal of detail on BigFooty before - i.e. the impact Gold Coast coming in & their intended jumpers/colours had on the decisions our Club made.

I think the points I have made are pretty clear, and mostly pretty reasonable, but I will try to leave them at that. I think the images really speak for themselves.

I reckon we'll play them in round 2.

Easter Thursday at the Gabba.

Sounds good to me. We're planning on being out of the country for most of March and I'm paranoid that (with all the talk of extending the AFL season) I'm going to miss Round 1.

Guess they'll be dragging Wallsy and Quartermain out of Victoria for that one if it happens!

Said in the Courier Mail today that it's going to be a Lions v Suns game in Round 1, but I'm not sure of the source.

Not having a go at you but it appears that, as usual, The Curious Mail was wrong....

Gold Coast to miss Round 1

GOLD Coast will have to wait until Round 2 next year to make its AFL debut, league chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan today revealed.

McLachlan said the Suns would host Richmond at the Gabba in its first home-and-away outing.

The Tigers will play Carlton to launch the 2011 season.

Looks like the Gold Coast will get the easter Thursday clash next year instead of us then.

Strange... would have made perfect sense to put us up against each other on the Thursday night.

Easter falls on April 25th next year, so Round 2 wont be that match;)

Would this match suggest we will be at home in round 1???? 22 matches in SEQ should mean there will only be 2 weekends without a game.

We've had the Eagles in Rd#1 the last few. The last couple at home. The AFL seem to like their mini traditions. That might stay if that's the case.
