Ross refused to trade him to us for pick #30 and Goldsack. Paul Conners evidently convinced him to enter the national draft with a price on his head, and he refused to do medicals with any teams other than us. He had some chronic groin issues which were not to be taken lightly… anyway he got to us at the pick we were trying to trade for him.

I'll never forget the anxiety of the 2009 National Draft when we were hoping Ball would slip to Pick 30 (our first pick in the draft).
There was some talk at the time that Melbourne were interested in Ball and for a moment I thought he was going to be selected at Pick 18, but Melbourne opted for Luke Tapscott instead. Biggest sigh of relief I can remember in my life
