Edmund repeating the same information, but says we have no idea where this is heading. So he could be a Pie still and they’re just throwing around BS.
Not word for word but Edmund also mentioned Carlton knew the 3 way trade was the best way to get it done for those clubs and the most likely way, and that North might have to end up dropping out as well basically.

This is too perfect to fall apart. Hopefully we can come to something but I’m certain this won’t go any other way.

Exactly.

The fact the news of Port board didn't like it is a FAILURE of Port managers.

This screams of Cornes making a phone call to Port Board and leaking it out.

If Board is not happy with their assigned or approved List Manager's decisions then it needs to stay internally.... it weakens List Manager's position in future trades... like why wouldn't another team request a board member to be part of the list management now?

As I have mentioned in the Trades thread yesterday, this screams a tactical decision. Before I even knew about the board getting involved, I thought it was odd that Port suddenly wants to deal with North Melbourne.

The board has obviously pooped their pants at the prospect of Collingwood being a lot stronger with Houston, way up in premiership contention. Port, believing they are in premiership contention would obviously rather send him to North because his impact there wouldn't threaten Port.

This whole board thing seems to prove my point.

Incredibly, not only does GC get the best deal in the rejected trade as it currently stands, they can fix it and get it over the line at no additional cost to themselves by merely fixing their deal with Richmond to be less of (but still) a bizarre overpayment for Rioli.

Take 23 out of the Rioli deal and swap it for 29 in the Lukosius deal.
So ironically, in your opinion, in a three way trade between Port, Collingwood and Gold Coast……the improved offer needs to come from…..RICHMOND!

If it’s really the Port Board that stuck their noses in, they’ll have too much egg on their faces to back down now. That’s a concern.

There's at least a couple of ways to fix this deal to appease Port and have Gold Coast lose very little/nothing:

1) Stop being stupid about Rioli and give 23 to Port
2) Let Port keep their F1 and give F2 instead
3) Give another pick back to Port
4) Various combos of the above

Ano of the above closes the deal and make no mistake Gold Coast wouldn't want to miss out on the potential of any of those variations

Seems very simple... the only concern from here is that Port's board has been kept in the dark the whole way along until the deal was all but signed off.

If they were involved along the journey and had a decent idea on what the trade would look like, and the proposed deal was close, it should be an easy fix.

With our first rounder this year and next, along with Richards and Noble, we're looking at having Schultz, Perryman and Houston.

Carlton probably turning their current first rounder and F1, along with Owies... for Nick Haynes and O'Sullivan.

Let that sink in

Is there a scenario where we keep both Richards and Noble and trade next years 1st into this year and draft some young talent? Seems the Houston deal is dead.
Can Keep Noble but not Richards as he is out of Contract

I don’t even think the Perryman component should come into it which makes it all the more disappointing.

Of course it should, it’s a comparison of total ins vs cost. Haynes is a free agent just like Perryman.

What's up with the astronomical number of people who are forgetting that Richards is out of contract?
It would look pretty bad on him to go to the draft after Reid got him to pies from the bush league.
If the deal fell over Id be confident we would up our offer for him to stay, which he was considering doing anyway

This O’Sullivan kid would wanna be a Nick Daicos.

Take Haynes out of the Carlton side then too.

Perryman is at no cost besides cap space. There is no outgoing there. He is irrelevant to the cost of our forgone draft capital and departing players.

This is looking like mishandling by Port. Seems their list manager came to an agreement but was overruled. I do think it's ridiculous that Suns aren't including pick 23. Should always have been there. Their Rioli offer is extremely bad. Still time to get this done, but don't see how it's possible without the Suns helping us out.

If the clubs can't get a deal done, completely reasonable for Richards to look after himself by nominating his terms(which Port has already offered) and head to the pre-season draft. That is what Port have up their sleeve. Not Richards' fault if the clubs can't come to terms.
