So we don’t care that Ash is contracted?

Little bit surprised about Leggy

It’s not the first time and won’t be the last that a contracted player has been delisted with the intention of re-drafting them as a rookie.

30 + 2 recruits + membrey = 32. 3 in the draft. 35 players. Probably means we can pick up one more player in DFA or taje 4 in the draft.
Given if we do re-rookie ash and markov, we are at 6 rookies
Jen, 30, plus two recruits, plus Membrey (effectively 3 recruits) equals 33.

We haven't opened up an extra space. The two senior list spots cleared by Markov/Johnson being delisted are just absorbed by the two new rookie list spots that they're going to occupy.

On Reef and AJ. I’d delist AJ and commit to redrafting him in the rookie draft, hoping someone else grabs him instead, and offer Reef a 1 year deal, committing to developing him in defence for the next 12 months.

Hopefully other clubs would see value in taking on AJ for a 12 month rookie deal (looking at you Melbourne you ****ing rabble of a club).

Damn I’m good.

Also lol at them being referred to as “stars”.

It’s a bit of a fall from grace for Markov.
He really went backwards in 2024 compared to what he produced in 2023.

He needs a big summer and to find his legs again as he was anything but a speed demon in 2024

I did not have Oleg being delisted by the end of 2024 on my bingo card.

My bad, you're correct.

Unless Markov or Johnson get snapped up by another club and then we may have the option of SSPing someone… Tomlinson, for example.

Come draft night we technically will have 2 extra list spots. Wouldn't be surprised if we change our mind on re-rooking ash and oleg , if we stumble on a player we never unexpected to be available at our picks.

Also the decision could be taken out of our hands, if both oleg and aj get picked up by other clubs. Which will definitely leave us with 2 spots ( assuming we stick to 3 from the ND) .

It is going to be a very fluid situation .

I mean... We're dangling Markov and Johnson hoping someone picks them up, right?

There's no rational reason to move them from our senior list to our rookie list otherwise. It doesn't create any additional senior list spots, because we're just going from 4 on the rookie list and 38 on the senior list to 36 on the senior list and 6 on the rookie list with this move.

So logically the only reason is to hope they actually get picked up by another team.
Rookie base wage isn't part of the salary cap. So having 36 and 6 rookies is better than 38 and 4 rookies. Small salary cap saving.

Which is my point - This had to be the hope, that one of them gets picked up and we get to offload them onto another club.

Honestly Markov would play for a bunch of teams if he was on their list. No shame in not being able to crack our backline consistently.

Surely we don't enter 2025 without improving our KPD stocks. Makes me think we almost certainly will be packaging up at least a couple of our draft picks to move up the ladder and then draft Tomlinson.

Unless saints are offering him something between 1.3-1.5 mill a season, can't see him making a sideway move ,career wise.

Just like any young player being referred to as a "young gun".
Nah at least young players have the excuse of potential when they get the young gun moniker.

Calling older depth role players stars is ridiculous

FREE TO GOOD HOME:
Oleg Markov
Ash Johnson

I re-did the math

With our 30 + 3 recruits (Houston, Perryman, Membrey) = thats 33.
Add in 3 draftees thats 36 the max (if we have a full rookie list)
If we re-rookie Ash and Markov, we will have the max on the rookie list (6) so wont have anymore room for other recruits
