Surely they didnt mean 40's.. unless there is gonna be like 10+ FA compo/academy/FS bids before then..
Regardless, not having our first rounder this year is going to have a serious impact upon our ability to trade in or trade up for quality.

might be where future trading comes in? Must have some kind of plan to trade back into the first round -- Or at best, hope a tall slips to us.

I really hope we’re not dipping into 2026

2025 might be needed for McGuane (btw, I thought the message from the club is we wanted to keep our picks(?))

hope a tall slips
If we’re relying on hope, we’ve seriously mismanaged

This isn’t snark at you, Jen
This is realising the value of our 2024 first
Imagine if one of the Wilcock boys becomes a generational KPP and we can’t get access bc of loss of draft mobility
Imagine if the only inhibitor to adding Smith is not having our first

Yeah this is the downside of trading future picks (schultz)
They'll have to keep in mind points for Mcguane too.
Doesn't leave much legway, so shall be interesting what happens.

He would have played all this year if he stayed. I don't think it was clear cut he was going to be forced out at all. And his spot at the Swans is anything but secure! I think the reasons were deeper and more personal.

Tay feeling that there was a chance of losing his spot with us no doubt contributed to his decision, as did a longer contract offer.

But at the time and from hearing him speak subsequently, it seems like the main reason was that missing the gf just sort of broke him and he felt he needed a fresh start. That's the distinct impression I get anyway.. I know the club didn't want him gone.
Anyway. Looking like it will turn out to be an inspired choice from him. I'll be very happy to see him raise the cup with Sydney as long as it's not against us.
I don’t think that’s anywhere near as clear cut as you make it out to be.

Will be interesting to see what the Swans do when Luke Parker is available again.

There's a distinct possibility that Tay could be the first player in history to play all year at one club only to tragically miss the GF, then moves to another club the next year only for the same scenario to play out. That would suck!
Parker was stuck in the magoos behind Adams before his suspension. The status quo won’t have changed, the Swans will keep him in the twos barring injury to one of their preferred mids.

Im not even getting excited about Mcguane until then AFL release in August what they are doing with father sons in the draft. Kane seems to be turning the game upside down on her watch.

Yes. Because he could see the writing on the wall. He was already effectively pushed out of our midfield. Would he have lasted in his forward role with the likes of Harrison and Richards breathing down his neck this year? Maybe, but it would have been a big gamble for him to stay instead of getting a lucrative deal to play in his preferred position.

He's getting less midfield time this year than last year.

Would not be shocked if Trac wants out after how poorly his injury was handled. A lot of stories mentioning his parents are fuming at Melbourne.

Would love him at the Pies, he’s a great guy and a real professional considering what he’s gone through

Have no idea how we could get him but he along with Jamarra Ugle-Hagan are the only two players in the comp I’d sell the farm for.

Adams was contracted.
He asked for the contract to be terminated.
He wanted out.
It’s already been explained by another poster. He was pushed out of his preferred position in the midfield and saw the writing on the wall and a better contract offer.

Same same.

The terms of his exit don’t really effect the point I was making anyway

Pretty sure Adams would have McRae and Sullivan covered if he was still with us.

Parker broke his arm at the start of the season and had to come back through the 2's. When he comes back from suspension they will play him if there's a spot and his form warrants it obviously. Add to that, Callum Mills will be back soon too.
If Adams wanted out because he thought his spot was on shaky grounds at the Pies, super bad call to go the the Swans. I remember Swans posters at the time referring to him as "handy depth".

Plenty of Pie supporters wondered where Adams would fit in at Swans too. I'd say he was particularly lucky both Parker & Mills were injured/suspended, which has allowed him this time to make his claim on that midfield spot.

How can we lose interest? Nothing has changed from when we were interested?

Only logical explanations are

1: its made up
2: collingwood is leaking to the media deliberately to lower his value
The one speaking about it was Glenn McFarlane. He generally has an insight, and he thinks our current trading capital will make it impossible. That we're more unlikely than likely
There is also a view from rivals he is sealed and delivered up the coast.
