Toby Murray, Gatto, Christie perhaps even Cooper
Wandered up the Hume and watched Rovers v Euroa on Sat, with Rovers giving a very strong Euroa side a bit of a touch up by 9-10 goals in the end I think. Young Christie is a big boy and moves very well, and looked a good one/two punch with Toby Murray between Ruck and FF. I think Marklew might have bagged himself 8 or 9 and Filo kicked a few as well. They looked a bit shaky defensively at times but I think were missing Schutt and Lenaz from their first string lineup. Either way looks like round 1 v Wang is going to be a cracker!

On a side note I also see that Pat Naish signed at Old Ivanhoe during the week according to their socials. The points squeeze at Wang forced him out maybe?

Probably the right call , otherwise don't have these rules

I totally understand that they have breached the cap, they have copped the sanctions from AFLNEB. Now they have had the flag stripped from them.
Looking back, maybe they shouldn’t have self reported and should’ve just tried to cover it up somehow? Would the penalty have been worse if they did? Maybe they would’ve banned the club from competing for the year and make it an 8 team comp?
The league think they are taking a stand to stamp out clubs cheating the cap in future, but they are kidding themselves. The breach is nothing like the breaches that we all know clubs are doing to get top end talent on their lists. The league will sit their and pat themselves on the back, but in the end, as usual, they’ve solved nothing. They’ve been handed the breaches on a silver platter via an administrative error.
Any other clubs that find themselves in a similar position in the future, I would recommend doing everything in your power to be as uncooperative as possible throughout the whole process.

On a side note… Just heard about myrts new signing that winter Irving. 20 head of cattle he got, looking for places to store them to grow for him as we speak. No pony looking into it, unless Myrt come forward and say we’ve made a mistake here first.

Did they self report out of nowhere or did they just get on the front foot when they knew they were being looked at? There’s been very little detail revealed about everything to do with this case which I don’t think is an accident.

The penalties are light in my opinion. The flag is an absolute non-negotiable. If you’re approx 20% over the cap you can’t keep the flag. There’s no room for interpretation on that one. An admin error is $2k not $28k.

The rest of the penalties are meaningless in my view. They would have the fine covered their bar takings during over the GF weekend. The fact that they’re still a realistic chance of making the finals this year illustrates how weak the other penalties are.

AFL Victoria have completely stuffed this up. They should have released all of the relevant details from the start, stripped them of the flag and then laid out what the additional penalties would’ve been had they not “self reported”, which should’ve been double the fine and a guarantee not to be playing finals for the next 2 or 3 years.

If the salary cap is going to be kept it needs to be properly enforced, otherwise just get rid of it. Everyone knows how hard it is to catch the cheaters so the only way to keep clubs in line is to make the penalties so severe clubs won’t risk being caught.

Peta don't bring yourself to TF's level. Throwing stones from glass houses I think is the saying..

My point is, what is the league doing to stop clubs rorting the system? Make an example of Wang, sure. Doesn’t change a thing.
They need to pro active about stopping it

Everybody knows that...

  • if it's not from the club's books
  • if it's not documented on paper
  • if the player doesn't talk

Then there's basically nothing the league can do to stop it.

In fact, there's the question of whether third-party deals are even against the rules.

Everybody will say "everyone will still do it!"... so there's no point going around about it.

It's a risk v reward situation... I guess if nothing else, people now know how big the risk is - you could get stripped of a flag

Don’t come on here and be a Wang apologist after the fact you clown. They cheated, they got caught, they have been punished accordingly. If it was any other club we would be saying the same thing. You can’t unring a bell and you can try and trot out every excuse under the sun, or try and apportion blame upon the league. I know it probably stings the pride, but lay down your guns and walk out of the saloon alive
This message reeks of defensiveness. Are you Albury, Rovers or Yarra? Lets be realistic here, take a look in your own backyard and lets not lose our heads. Aberfeldie (EDFL), Deer Park (WRFL) none lost their flags with much larger breaches. Noone benefits from the flag being taken. If you think its good for footy you're unfortunately extremely delusional

😂 😂 champ, you guys got caught. I know you are embarrassed, and I know it’s a bitter pill to swallow. You can try and sling as much mud as you like, but it just isn’t going to stick.

Just took a look at flights Alice Springs to Melb. Currently the cheapest over the next 5 weeks is $350 one way.
So straight away that's $700 a week in Ankers flights, before the match payment. is $7,700 out of the cap for his 11 matches. He would have to be on at least $700 himself, so that's $15,400 best case from one player...

Disappointing for Wang, but a decision the league absolutely had to make. Unfortunate for them that they were the ones who were caught, as we all know the other teams have gotten away with it for a long time too. How many truly legitimate flags in the past decade do we think?
Will make a few teams think twice maybe, but there are just so many loop holes to get around it.

I've missed some games, look like he played 16 games
so that's $22,400 if he is only on 700, doubt that he is on that low an amount
