Overrated things in life

No, I'm saying the disparity of people declaring these type of shows as their favourite kind makes it an overrated thing in life.

It's not really overrated though, it's more of a personal preference than anything. I'd prefer to watch a band play passionately at the pub than a group go through the same stuff they've been doing since their New York show 5 months ago.

This seems to be the consensus these days, but I was over there for the first time last year for a few weeks and thought it was great. Don't understand all the hate Bali seems to get these days (obviously there is the 'bogan Aussie' aspect, but we steered clear of places like Kuta for that exact reason).

Please tell us you wore a Bintang singlet on the plane home. 'Straya c*nt!;)

Going to Bali for my fifth time in seven years in March. I hate Kuta.

Please tell us you wore a Bintang singlet on the plane home the previous four times. And that you will again this time. 'Straya c*nt!;)

Bali is only overrated by people who think it's an exotic holiday destination, a cultural experience etc.

I've only been there once and had a reasonable time. Stayed in Seminyak, visited Legian regularly and Kuta once. Also checked out Ubud and a few other spots along the coast.

It's got a lot going for it. Good snorkelling, surfing etc. if you know where to look. Tropical climate, SE Asian food, nice hotels. But let's be honest there are two reasons minor reasons Aussies go there: it's close and it's easy (everyone in the tourist parts speaks English, the path is well and truly worn). And there's the major one: it's cheap. You can work an average job here earning an average wage and when you go there you can live like (and be treated like) a king. If Bali was like Switzerland (ie 20 hours away and expensive) Aussies wouldn't go there.

It is overrated because so many people will declare a gig of this nature as "best show I ever seen", as the response to my post has shown.

But maybe it's justly rated that way. I mean, bands get older, less enthusiastic possibly; they release a difficult second album, therefore play worse material as they progress; you're actually somewhere in the same postcode as the band on stage.

A great example of a band who became progressively shitter as they aimed for stadium success is Kings Of Leon.

I'd always prefer a sweaty little room to Rod Laver etc, every time!

Jelly. Would have loved to have seen INXS.
2.5k in a room that held 1500 comfortably, there was sweat dripping off the ceiling. It was good old fashioned pub rock, played by a band used to playing in front of 20 times the amount of people there that night.

Nailed it.
Ubud was the best part of Bali for me, and it's probably the last thing that comes to the average Aussie's mind when they're associating things with Bali.

In-n-Out burger. It's just a standard burger, read on facebook people were queuing at 4am for it in Sydney. I've had it in LA and it wasn't even that good.

Credit to the organisers though, great marketing.
Had it in Fresno in California. From memory the chips were nice but the burgers were shithouse.

The In'n'Out hype was ridiculous. Their burgers are above average for a super fast food chain, but they're not worth queuing up for any length of time, let alone 6+ hours. They are marketing it very well, if they opened up a proper store it'd have some novelty value at first and then die off completely.
