Pat Vezpremi - Where is he at?

Wouldn't want to lose Vez, ffs he's barely been given a chance at the Swans for whatever reason. If we insisted on letting him go or he wanted to be traded, I think a handy small forward in Nahas would be a great get.

I still remember his 4-goal haul against the Lions in 08 and thinking 'This guy will be a star for us'.

He still might, but if we let him go for whatever reason our recruitment team needs a kick up the arse. If he's lazy or hasn't got his head on right, we should have known that before we drafted him.

Our record with first round picks is becoming embarrassing.

Our record with first round picks is becoming embarrassing.
Its a long way beyond embarrassing DA. A quick reminder:

2001 - Traded along with picks 17 and 45 for Barry Hall. The picks we traded were used to select Nick Dal Santo and James Kelly
2002 - Jarrad McVeigh
2003 - Josh "delisted without playing a game" Willoughby
2004 - Traded for Darren Jolly
2005 - Traded for Ted Richards
2006 - Daniel "delisted without playing a game" O'Keefe
2007 - Pat Veszpremi
2008 - Lewis Johnston

Jetta? Rohan?
Way too early to make that call. Veszpremi showed just as much in his first few games, and now look at him.

Can we get someone really hot in return... like cothin.. or deledio...

His best has been great so I reckon Longmire will give him his chance next year.

I bloody well hope so, becasue its pretty frustrating watching the players they play ahead of him. He's a talent who with his limited opportunities showed a lot. I don't understand what he has to do to get a look in when there has been a raft of other players who've walked into the side not really doing much better then him.

If I was him, I'd leave too, to be perfectly frank. Here's hoping Horse has a differing opinion to Roos...

Ain't that the truth.

Vez 2008:

6 games (including 2 finals)
44 kicks
17 marks
22 handballs
66 disposals
9 goals
11 behinds
10 tackles
2 Brownlow votes.

Clearly I've forgotten how good Vez was in his first handful of games because I'd rate Rohan's first handful a mile ahead.

I just don't understand why people are so excited about him.

Stats are overrated but this tells us that basically Vez is slightly ahead in most areas however Rohan kills him in defensive pressure.

I think I know which set of stats I'd take.

Gaz also had his debut at the Cattery and didn't get much time on the ball. Stats aren't conclusive I agree. I'm with you, I'm a massive Gaz fan don't worry. I don't think i've ever been more confident of a 1st rounder and I'm not afraid of putting the mock on him by saying that. He's got heart this kid. The will to succeed. Vez did have a great final 6 games of 2008 though. 2009 and 2010 have been dramatically different! I'm sure there is frustration on all sides after what seemed such a promising start.

Vesz (2nd game 18yrs old) kicked 3 good hard working goals against North at Manuka for the win. Managed to score nearly every game in a very low scoring side.

Shaw (seasoned vet) kicks 3 and folks are in raptures.

He just has too many similiar body shapes ahead of him in experience(Moore, Bird, McGlynn) and others ( Jetta , Rohan ) offer different body shape /positional role attributes.

He just needs to work hard to demand a spot. Clearly fitness (endurance) is an issue maybe attitude as well?, because Meredith has pressed harder for selection.

Then again GC might have come knocking?

But he's contracted til the end of 2011??

I don't mean to stir any shit but the word is when we played each other few weeks ago (very good game that:p) deal was done to send him to Richmond end of season.
Only a rumor though and as we know most rumors are bullshit.

This sounds effing ludicrous.
Why would a deal be locked in so early? When the meat market that we know as trade week is still a well hit five iron away.
Surely at this stage, the club has not tested his true worth by shopping him around like some sort of grubby footy card.
And if they have, the only plausible reason would be due to the player asking for a trade. So why then, would the club tie up a supposed done deal so early on, as this would not be in the the clubs best interest.
Do Richmond know where they are set to finnish, do the Swans ?
What of the Doggies, a small forward perhaps, just add bleach.
Sorry, no sale sunshine. Lets give silly season a miss for now.

As i alluded to a couple of weeks ago its his mindset thats holding him back.

That possibly (I don't have the source that you do) but purely from observation, also his endurance. The two may be different sides of the same coin, or it may just be that however hard Veszpremi works, he will always struggle to develop a sufficient level of endurance.

As a first year player, we fans probably didn't mark Veszpremi hard on that score. Towards the end of his third year and with little visible improvement, it becomes more of a worry for those of us who had hoped he'd be regular player by now.

I know we're all probably clutching at straws trying to work this out, because the club hasn't given much feedback. But his endurance seemed ok when he played a serviceable game a month or so ago. Lewis Jetta has the lowest TOG of any non-ruckman in our entire squad, so clearly an inability to run games out isn't a factor in his selection.
