Hanson's platform goes for the low hanging fruit, it's light on facts, heavy on emotion particularly hate, she plays to our worst aspects.

The aspect about Pauline's appeal that I don't understand is how any sane person could think she's capable of being an effective politician.

Even if I agreed with her paranoia (you could hardly describe her views as 'policy') I still wouldn't vote for a narcissist with the IQ of a wombat.

I think you'll find that tax payers are actually "forking over billions every year" to politicians and the Government. But the two major parties have definitely said that they don't want to be investigated.

Surely an investigation into political corruption would bring up any climate change gov corruption as part of it all. So why don't we do that instead?

Or... is it actually still just about denying the science?

More than happy to setup a permanent inquiry into political corruption, in all it's forms.

Good point, agree lets not look at any infrastructure for a country that is growing. This will be cheap in 10 years time and it seems you have forgotten the water restrictions that were in force during that time.
A bit like the inconvenience that people in my area are experiencing with the Tullamarine Freeway as they had decided two lanes aren't enough and are widening it.

I'm not dismissing it I'm explaining it, she gives voice to the naughty thoughts in the backs of our heads and provides simple solutions. She plays to our more primal instincts and as shown throughout history that is a powerful thing.

Abbott does the same thing, people get caught up in the rhetoric without processing it rationally.

All politicians do it, they try and get away with giving you as little detail as possible. If they asked for more details they'll deflect or talk in circles.

It's not a phenomenom to her.

Nothing to add re building the right infrastructure to cater for future demand?
What if all you denialists are wrong?
How much study has already been carried out, if money is so tight and the deficit is alarming, can think of better ways to spend the millions of dollars that will be spent to satisfy one of her demands.

Curious thing that I noticed from Anthony Green's blog post about preference flows.

Back in '98 and '01, One nation's preferences flowed pretty evenly to the ALP & coalition ( about 45/55 ).

It would seem that far from the usual spin about them being far right, they actually get votes from selling a populist message to the disaffected/marginalised from both sides.

I look back at my first post in this thread, where i said that the way to defeat a bad argument is with a better one, and how the PC crowd instead tried instead to shut up any dissent and vilify those who presented it.
