Troy Selwood. Could be an amazing roughie. Thoughts? How is he going pre-season. Will he be used as a tagger? Thanks. :)
You'd be mad to take the risk.

He actually would be a good scorer on the way he is currently playing. Takes no risks with his disposal (to the detriment of his game) and so hasn't been making a lot of actual mistakes (quite a high disposal efficiency last year, statistically speaking). He doesn't seem to be physically limited anymore which is a plus too. Is getting enough of it so, based on that, could be a solid 80 scorer in Supercoach.

However, the only possible way I can see him in our best 22 is as a tagger. If he has no value as a tagger, I cannot see him playing senior footy. I don't see his pre-season possession numbers being replicated in the main season. I really hope he proves me wrong because he is a genuine trier and deserves to come good. The realist in me says that the only way that will happen is as a tagger.

Selwood is an absolute gun. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Drummond, if he stays on the park.

That's the gamble you have to assess.

Cheers mate, I'm thinking of going for Drummond. Just quickly, with the zone coming into full force this year, is Drummond likely to be your designated kicker off half-back? This should only be good for his scores.

Not touching this one with a fifty foot pole!

Thanks for the replies. Although opposite, all insightful. He did average 80 in 07, but has never played 18+ games in a season. However, I only need him as a cash cow to play 10-12 games early. Will monitor as he goes. I also think Vossy might play him more, might be wrong though.

Hey guys, there is a thread about Polkinghorne but seeing as this is dream team related im asking here :)

Who rich and polkinghorne be competing for the one spot, maybe a bench spot in your 22? or would they be going after totally different positions. I havent seen a lot of Polkinghorne to be honest but living over in perth seen a lot of rich.

thanks guys.

Athomas, Troy Selwood is the Jordan Russell of the Lions board (ie. blame for any losses usually start with him). Cousin Jed is probably being a little over enthusiastic (ie. to the point of sarcasm) in jumping to his defence.

Thanks. I think i'll jump off. Just not worth the risk. Especially as I already have Drummond. :p

They are 2 of several players vying for perhaps 3 or 4 spots. Conceivable that both, or neither, will play round 1. The good form of Proud and Harding probably doesn't help their selection chances.

I'd have Polkinghorne very slightly ahead on his ability to play small forward, on ball and possibly tagger. Rich looks to be a midfield option only at this early stage and even then, his TOG has not been great. Rich brings a point of difference to the side though with the combined effect of his kicking and inside ability.

Ultimately, while they may or may not play round 1, there is a high likelihood that both will play some games this year, making them worthwhile cash cows.

No way!

Leuenberger is hard to predict. Any of the following 3 scenarios could eventuate:

1. He becomes the first ruck and scores very well. Charman is suffering from a knee injury and did not have a great 08 so this is a real possibility.

2. He is the 2nd ruck and doesn't score overly well but his price should go up a bit

3. Mitch Clark is the preferred 2nd ruck as he is a better option in the forward line, leaving Leuenberger in the reserves.

Voss has indicated that 3 is not in his plans, but when the real stuff begins, the best laid plans can change quite quickly.

I predict he'll be fully recovered by 16 May at 4:03pm, meaning he'll be a last minute inclusion for Round 8 vs Adelaide.

Thanks for the crystal ball Grim!

What's the latest with Jonathon Brown - I see he is yet again being nursed through a pre-season and am wary of another slow start from him. How's his fitness and will sole captaincy and a new coash fire him up to 2006 levels?

Point of debate right now. Some think he'll start slow. I personally think that he'll come out all guns blazing. He played last week and should play this week so he'll have some game time under his belt.

He's in my Supercoach side.

JMac is fairly consistent, will usually get you 20 touches playing off halfback. Disposal is pretty good nowadays. Last year he missed 5 games with an ankle injury, was that what hurt you?

Nah his scores were just really erratic last year. One week he would come out and score 150 and the next he'd score 60. It just seemed he struggled to find consistency, maybe due to his injury.

If you watched the games last year you would've noticed that JMac wuld play a variety of roles in our backline depending on match ups, etc. He had a consistently good year but some games he was playing loose or very tightly matched up, etc.

Read in the Injury Watch thread that Leunberger is not playing this weekend, will he be right for round 1?

The Berger trained with the main group today.

He'll be fine for round 1.

Just wondering where the irishman Hanley is at. Thought he showed some promise

He's back on the rookie list.

With Pat Garner out for the season, we will have the ability to elevate a rookie. Hanley would be probably the first cab off the rank for an elevation, but has a fair few blokes ahead of him in terms of pressing for senior selection.

I'd avoid him if I was you.

Cheers, Brown Dog

Do you think Collier will play Rd1?
