2nds Peel Thunder 2024 Season

Thing is, if you don't get Allen there is always Travaglia. Both are hb/mids. Travaglia is terrific from what I have seen.

Here’s how they fared.
Will Brodie: Led all comers with 34 disposals in another huge performance. Defensive efforts were sufficient rather than standout.
Hugh Davies: Took several intercept marks in one of the best games of his young career. Has returned from a brief stint in the senior side a more confident player.
Tom Emmett: One of his side’s strongest performers. Set the tone with the first two goals of the game and was busy across the half-forward line thereafter.
Neil Erasmus: Continued his solid season with a 30-disposal, six-tackle outing. Kicking efficiency has improved over the course of the year.
Ethan Hughes: Another solid showing, taking 13 marks. Playing a vital leadership role in a side putting together a strong season despite a young defence.
Nathan O’Driscoll: Excellent on return from a nagging knee issue. Did his job on the wing and managed to come up with three goals, including a trademark drop punt from deep in the pocket late in the day.
Liam Reidy: Dominated a pair of young ruckmen, finishing with 38 hit-outs.

Cooper Simpson: Not hugely influential but did some good things, including a brilliant finish for a third-term goal.
Ethan Stanley: Put in a typically hard-running day on the wing.
Matt Taberner: Best showing in some time. Slotted four goals, his most in a WAFL game since 2017.
Pat Voss: Another brilliant performance, booting six goals while working up the ground and gathering 19 disposals. Plenty of competition in his role but is building an irresistible case for senior selection.
Karl Worner: Has had better days but was far from his side’s worst.
Great write-up. It nearly belongs in the optimism thread and I mean that in a good way. I'b be surprised if Will Brodie doesn't come close to winning the Sandover this year. He's been fantastic overall this year for a player yet to even be named an emergency for a game.

I agree with you completely on Travaglia. Interestingly I read one of the draft write-ups on him and it said he'd been kicking goals playing at TAC level as a half forward. I certainly wouldn't be upset if we drafted him with a 1st rounder. He could be another Youngy who starts in defence but is switched to other positions later on.

Ok. Good work by the West then for once but I appreciate anyone sharing info on our games anyway. I know you watch a fair bit of WAFL. What were your thoughts?
I only saw the second half this week and on my phone so I have no deep insights beyond thinking that one on one Voss is way too good for the WAFL (of course it doesn't then follow he will be a good AFL forward. But its the first criteria you have to meet if you see what I mean.) I also remember thinking that Stanley's run is improving and that Ras is still too light to play inside next level consistently.

The West's right up was pretty good unusually; must be someone new and it's had the awkward styling and metaphors after its been drafted the first time. Maybe via AI.

AFL Watch: Pat Voss continues push for Fremantle Dockers selection with six goals in Peel Thunder win

Josh Kempton

New guy. Seemed spot on. Didn't realise I had cropped the West reference off.

Genuine question, how do you reckon Peel (include Draper as Pearce/Cox will be our back two) would go against West Coast?

We appear to have AFL level depth all over the show; fantastic to hear Noddy up , running and slotting them from the boundary again. Hopefully, it's the start of his return to 2022 form.

In terms of 2024 I think Draper simply goes and plays at Peel when everyones fit but in an attacking defender role. He would come into the team if we got injuries or if we play a team with a tall forward line.

In 2025 I think Draper replaces Chapman's role as being the guy we can play on smalls and talls so Chapman can move to a wing. In a few years I think Josh will replace Luke Ryan as our major intercept defender once Luke retires.

West coast smashed our full team only 10 weeks ago

It was a great comeback game by a players who's been out a long time by NOD. He's clearly playing to extend his career and it shows. Good luck to him.
As well as having Noddy back , it is also good to see where Ethan Stanley is playing well on a wing.He has been injured I think, but getting back into it.
We have traded and selected wisely, Voss is a great stand by for a few players. And a few others ready if need be.

Will Brodie could have hung his bottom lip and moped around Peel..
As with Ras.
Will Brodie has been admirable this year.

Hard to say this about Brodie IMO.

He hasn't been emergency since round four - It could be that he's happy to get his 30+ disposals but has been unable to make the required changes to his game to get anywhere near selection...

Of course I don't 100% know if the above is true but it certainly appears that's what the coaches think if he's that far from selection ATM.

10 weeks is a long time... Not saying Peel would win, but they're a rabble at the moment. Likely to get it together for the derby, of course, but looks like Simmo has lost the group.

It would be a 20-30 goal loss to Peel playing against the West Coast AFL team. In the last month Peel just won by a kick over West Perth and lost to Subiaco, and both of those teams are in the bottom half of the WAFL ladder.

They're a bits and pieces team most weeks. There's maybe only 2-3 Fremantle players each week who might push for selection in our senior team (the previous week there was probably none) and the other Docker listed players are either not ready for AFL or close to the end of their AFL careers. Even though the non-AFL players compete well, apart from 1 or 2 players, they're well off the pace of the worst teams in the AFL.

In all honesty he looks like he's giving his absolute max every time Ive seen him play. In my opinion he's way better at spreading from a contest than he was last time he played for Freo. I think he'll win the Sandover this year.

I loved the way Brodie played in 2022; so good at the quick handball and the hard ball get. Sad for the guy, working so hard but not getting an AFL look-in. Perhaps he needs a trade?

Maybe like the Kevin Johnson tune, Rock and roll I gave you the best years of my life, he,Brodie, will always be, Just one step behind you.
Far different game plan and players since his first year.
Probably go the way of Collins and Ballard.Be delisted and take his chances elsewhere.

Now imagine flipping the script - WAFL Beagles vs our AFL side. I was looking at the VFL ladder today and all the teams struggling at the bottom of the AFL ladder at least have competitive, if not good, VFL sides. Wet toast have a historically bad AFL side, an even worse WAFL side, no reserves side and a coach so bad they are going to pay millions of dollars for him to far cough.

Most of what you say rings true, but I've already used up all my imagination answering a hypothetical question about what would happen if Peel Thunder played West Coast's best 22 or 23.

There has been some historically worse performing sides in the VFL than the current bottom of the ladder teams. Frankston in 2014 didn't win a game and had a percentage of 43. North Ballarat in their last season (2017) won 1 game.

West Coast do want to send their 2nd's side to play in the VFL. I think they have some restrictions as to who they can recruit with the WAFL points for players system. Isn't their squad augmented mostly with amateurs. They might have a couple of ex-AFL listed players, although the only one I can think at the moment of is Trey Ruscoe.

It would be like Swan Districts vs Richmond in the 1982 Escort Cup.
