1. JVR doesn’t want to leave Melbourne so you’re contradicting your own argument.
2. We’ve seen some pretty uninformed trade suggestions but JVR and what will end up being pick 6 or 7 is close to taking the cake when our forward line is the one area that doesn’t need urgent attention.
3. What did Reid or his manager tell you when you spoke to them that makes you think he doesn’t want to play for the Eagles?

Have a look at the thread, what represents a trade we’d even entertain then come back and we’ll have a conversation.
Because this thread would be the deciding factor of the value of Harley Reid? I think his stocks have dropped recently, still number 1 but not by as much as 4 months ago.

When you are still getting a top 5 pick, a superstar is not coming with it, maybe a player who could be though you would have to take some sense of a risk with a younger player I think.

So Jerry Maguire you may be in for a shock when the other side responds with a counter offer.

Why?

Deciding factor? Would of thought the clubs are. It won’t be a top 5 pick. It will be 6 at best but probably 7. That’s Nick Watson or Nate Caddy who (if going by your technique of believing everything that’s written) are even bigger flight risks.

Flattered to be likened to the great man Jerry but even he can’t polish a turd. Have a look at my points and come back with something sensible. Would have thought you’d be busy figuring out what Esava is worth pick wise is someone is willing to put him on a multimillion dollar contract as reported.

Sure. And 6th placed St Kilda COULD win the Premiership - but if you had to take a punt you'd go with Collingwood over St Kilda.
yes and no. the odds that the number 1 pick being the best player is probably about 10%. History tells us this. Recruiters all understand the speculative nature of picking 18 year old kids.

Because he hasn't watch Harley Reid play and been doing other stuff 😂

My guess is his been lawn mowing the front lawn instead and never watched any of the draftees play. Most people on here haven't and don't even know what half the draft even look like but just say stuff like they know everything.

So we should be trading backwards?
What are you actually suggesting though? And how come the clubs aren't aware? They all seem to want to move UP the draft order, what do you know that they don't?

Also what if it's just us much about making sure you pick up a strong, potential b22 player and making sure you don't blow it (like we did with Brander) - if he turns out to be the touted generational player then awesome - but at the very least want to nail the pick by having first pick of the crop.

I’d take a whopper for esava and with your sponsors he’s all yours.

He hasn’t performed as well and the gap has been closed by some very good performances at the carnival and in league ranks.
Which carnival? The one he made the best 22?

The gap has closed on Harley Reid. That's true.

He's still a lock to go number one, but some of that is based on potential/expectations, as opposed to past performance.

For example though;
  • Ryley Sanders won the Larke Medal (best player of the U18 AFL Nationals), not Harley Reid.
  • If not for the GCS academy, there's arguably a chance that Jed Walter would be the #1 pick/prospect of this year's draft class.
  • Dan Curtin looks like the next elite KPD and has an AFL-ready frame which is rare for an 18 year old.
  • Colby McKercher was arguably more 'consistent' this year than any other junior prospect, including Reid. Just dominated every game he played in.
As I said, Reid is still a lock to go number 1. And he deserves it.

But it is fair and accurate to say that the 'gap' has closed.

Yes but didn’t dominate like expected. Still number 1 as I said but not the huge gap anymore. I think he has a few things to work on and may struggle with the running and strength step up.
Reid is clearly AFL ready after watching him play VFL this year, but has he shown any real improvement on the player he was last year? Is he a big kid that will find it harder in the AFL?

This is just the stage of denial you are in after missing out on Pick 1

You would not be saying this if you lost against Gold Coast

He stepped up and performed in the VFL though, and that was against grown men and not just kids the same age as him.

Also if west coast can trade for players or picks in package deal means they can delist and retire more players.
uneducated post.We can delist enough players to refresh our list.We do have to delist some players next year so some of our retirees will stay on the list to finish their contract and free up money for the salary cap for a free agent or two.

Nope. Go through my post history. I've been consistent on this, including when NMFC had the number one pick.

If anything, it's denial from you because you've been swayed by the #1 pick hype.

Ive been consistent with wanting pick 1 and only pick 1. I dont see any value in WCE having anyone else. Its a very bad draft for us to be in given the plethora of KPPS and our midfield being the true problem we have and few midfielders to take

Its Reid or nothing

For all the talk of McKercher killing it in the carnival and etc, im much happier with Reids 2 games in the VFL where he averaged 20+ possessions, 8 marks and 7 tackles. Main thing being said marks and tackles against grown men. It just shows the step up to the next level will be a 100% non-issue which the other players havnt shown yet. I dont think McKercher will be breaking the lines like he has in the u18 at AFL level nor will his fend off work as well in higher level.

Wouldnt you want them in your system as soon as possible though ?

thats what I would be scared of he relies on his fend off and power but the step up from vfl to afl is huge in that fact they are all full time athletes.

Harley Reids a part time athlete too. Imagine when he has a full time gym schedule and actually gets stronger himself.....
I hope so its probably his endurance that needs the work though from what I have heard. I hope he plays like he has would be a pleasure to watch!

But do I think Reid is 'definitely' going to be the best player from this draft class? No - I think that's far more uncertain.

Not certain as injuries can play its part

As far as talent goes etc, i dont think its ever been this certain that one player will be better then the rest. Its why he is such a lock
