But we are not 7 years into our rebuild so have more time up our sleeves is all. I guess we can both do "Whats the next finals side gonna be and whose good enough". 3 years from now I think Eagles so far have

FB: Cole, Barass, Hough
HB: Duggan, ??? , ???
C: ??? Ginbey, ???
HF: Brockman, ???, Ryan
FF: Williams, O.Allen (C), Long
I/C: Flynn, Reid, Hewett
I/C: Kelly, Sheed, J.Jones, ???

some ??? may still be filled out by what we have like Chesser, Bugriel, Maric, Bazzo, Barnett, J.Jones, Petch (needs to improve like this year), Waterman (needs to get over illness)
Poor Culley :(

Small forwards and half back flankers too also.

Ziebell/Hall were well finished but kept getting games without anyone else available. Spicer/Turner are also Spicer/Turner and they kept getting games up forward. This may be the ideal draft for North to trade away future picks to get another top 20 pick. Maybe even trade F1st for pick 6 and 11 and F2nd for pick 20 so they have 2,3,6,11,15,17,18,20

11 can get them O'Sullivan, 15 a guy like Archer Reid, 17 can get then Hardeman, 18 a guy like James Leake and 20 a small forward like Sanchez

Sounds like North need just as many picks to solve list problems as the Eagles.

Might just be best for them to use what they have and try and sort out the void in decent talls.

At least the Eagles have Barrass, McGovern, Darling,Bailey Williams and Oscar Allen as a spine to work with and build around.

North have Larkey then............... ........what?

don't forget 15,17,18 are all going to be pushed out as well. in a very shallow pool is taking 2 or 3 swipes in the 20s instead of just 1 really worth trading out of pick 1?
I imagine if 2 or 3 are attached and the value difference isn’t big to ROB then a top 3 talent and 2 extra throws at the stumps is worth it.

Depends if you believe in old school structures or the more modern way of how Collingwood and to a lesser extent Melbourne setup.

I’m not concerned about forward half firepower, we will have it coming out of our whazoo after this draft, defence needs some investment and I think it will get it.

Anyway, Rawlings couldn’t have been clearer this morning on radio.

We will attempt to trade up from those later Rnd 1 picks into the top 10, but won’t pay a kings ransom to do so.

He said he will put an offer to West Coast but there’s a limit to what he would consider.

Said he’s more than happy to pick from exactly what we have.

The only way I see WC trading that pick is if they genuinely have Reid and McKercher line ball or even prefer McKercher, if they don’t it doesn’t sound like Rawlings will be offering the sort of deal they will want to trade it.

I think I’d be more comfortable if I was a WC supporter after that interview, I highly doubt the offer will be anymore than say 2 & 15, so it really comes down to ROB’s rankings.

Forgetting pick 1 for a moment, do you think you can get into the top 10 straight up or do you think it'll happen in multiple moves? Ie. Target 6 or 7 rather than 6 & 11 or 7 & 16.

Clubs know that. Norf supporters living in a fantasy world thinking Eagles are desperate to turn Reid into a bunch of picks outside the top 10.

Do you think it is clever to continue to refer to them as 'Norf'?

They are saying 2 and 15 isn't close to the Hawks offer that was rejected.

So even if it was offered it would be rejected.
If WC really wanted either Reid or McK then the Hawthorn offer is a bit useless because it doesn't give either of the two guys they might want.

I still think they just take Reid, but since we don't know how the WC draft board looks it is possible 2&15 is better than 4&4&44 based on need.

Or at least it isn't impossible.

if we want an extra crack in the 20s we can easily make that happen without giving up reid. it doesn't seem like a very desirable part of the draft given all the clubs completely trading out of it tbh. we've already knocked back 2x top 5 picks and a young player. i don't see picks in the 20s moving the needle at all.

Can be handy to remember that Pick 4, Hawks Future R1 and Brockman is the rejected offer to beat.
I think that is a good offer, but it really depends on how WC rank the top players. If they have a clear top two then that offer isn't so good. If they have a clear and even top four it's great. If they have Harley miles ahead of everyone then it doesn't really matter what anyone offers.

As an outsider it seems the offer would have to be pick 2 and something else decent.
So, two questions for eagles fans:
1. I imagine 2 & 3 might get it done, but what about if North were to package their end of 1st rounders for a pick in the 8-12 range, would WCE accept pick 2 and 9 for pick 1?
2. If the proposed change to rookie contracts went through and Reid had a 3 year contract instead of 2, do you think that would alleviate any concern you may have in picking him?

I think people put way too much stock (ie more than nothing) into what list managers say publicly, it's just irrelevant and means nothing. It's all spin.

I am personally invested in North not being able to to use 15,17 and 18 to move up because I'd like to get one of them for a future 1st as I really dont see North wanting to use all of them at this years draft, seems overkill.

Only way I see it getting done is 2 and getting 8 off Geelong but I dont see the incentive for Geelong to move down that far, not in this draft

Regarding the Pick 9 scenario, it would depend if a really desirable player was available at that pick. Pairing McKercher, Sanders as an example given West Coast midfield depth.

1. ROB has mentioned the evenness of the draft after "the first part". My guess he would want another pick in whatever he deems as that first part along with pick 2.

2. The changes are applying to this year's draftees. If we take Reid he's here for 3 years
