That generational player can be found from 2-10 almost as much as pick 1 and the more the tickets in the lotto, the higher chance you have of winning it. Appreciate Reid is just that far ahead of everyone else but basically every single year the number 1 pick is shown up by someone drafted after him. Even if you can break it up into two top 10 picks and Reid is better than both of them, I think you'd still have a massive chance that your team is better with the two players you draft than the 1.

In a normal year i would absolutely agree with you but not this year.

I think North get the spoon again which would make this a moot point. there’s no way they trade a local marquee player he’s exactly what they need to start to become relevant again on the back of Clarko as coach. Hawks wouldn’t trade for similar reasons. Eagles should as a flight risk but also they need multiple drafts of early picks. Hawks might throw in DGB with a few early picks to get it done will be a fascinating trade period. As I am in the UK I get to avoid trade radio easily which is why I make that statement.

What flight risk?

The only mention of flight risk seems to be from Hawks fans.

Wonder why?

Eagles would look at a trade - Hawks no chance. Especially if the Eagles think Reid is any chance of being a flight risk.

Curtain from WA is a top 3 talent and a player Eagles would love.

If we had 3 what is the extra needed to drop to 1? If Ports pick is 10 it would get a conversation started. I would prefer 3 & 10 than 3 1st that are mid to late 1sts.

3 plus 10 plus Zurhaar maybe.

Ports pick won't be 10. More like 13.

Can't see anyone giving up Ried to gain an extra pick 13 and a player though. Seems way unders.

Port have to win a final for it to be 13.

So if we finish last you would swap 3, 10 and Allen for Reid?

Zurhaar and Oscar Allen dont even belong in the same sentence.

And no. Eagles would not trade 3 1st rounder (Allen being worth a 1st) s for pick 1, they need multiple top 10 talents.

North have been plugging away with low top 5 draft picks for how long now? 6 drafts?

Out of interest how many top 10 picks are at North now? And how many 1st round picks?

How we lost to them with a healthy team bar Nic Nat

True - Allen can't go into the midfield - you may need to throw in some steak knives.

We have drafted 9 top 10 picks. But that includes players at the end of their career like Cunners and Ziebell.

I would prefer the other Reid and Watson. We need a gun Key Forward and elite crumbing forward more than another mid.

Reid looks good and different to your typical pick 1, but remember David Swallow who became the first player to win the Larke Medal at the Champs as an underage player and then came 4th in the VFL's Brownlow equivalent in his draft year, was super hyped and had the runs on the board to back it up, but in reality just proved to be a vanilla player, so I wouldn't go thinking that a player going as well as Reid is, is ever a guarantee to go on to become the game's best player.
I think people forget how good Gibbs was too considering he was underage, Hogan is the other one who was incredible before AFL that comes to mind.

The person I’d love to be is this kids manager. Any club who drafts him will be under so much pressure to make it work that he could ask for a million per year and just about get it

Allen and Larkey are very similar and I prefer Zurhaar over Larkey. He is starting to do some good things in the midfield.
Ok, well I think you have serious blinkers on and Allen playing in a horrible team is being hidden over there or something. What he's doing for WC is ridiculous considering how bad they are. If I was WC I would prefer Allen to Reid straight up, ye alone chucking two firsts in with it haha.

What would it take... A hell of a lot

If Melb thought Van Rooyen wanted out ...and perhaps willing to add another WA kid to the mix... it could almost be a Judd /Kennedy type deal.

It might be very expensive ...perhaps even too expensive... because as others have said... others may end up being better than Reid... but atm you are paying the type of cost associated with trading in AA champs.. perhaps even more so.

Similar to Larkey.

Similar to Larkey.
I think your opinion of Larkey is clouding the opinion of Allen. Allen is putting together a remarkable season and is performing much much better than Larkey per basically every single stat and from just watching them.

On the topic I’ll be really interested to see what offers the teams get for pick 1 this year because I feel like the values are getting way over blown

Van Rooyan would have to come into play.

Currently have 7 and 17. Two thirds of a realistic offer.

"into play" ? come in to play .perhaps?

As I said, similar to the Judd deal .. except with Judd ..he was a known commodity. P3 and P20 and Josh Kennedy. Perhaps some rebalancing could be agreed to with minor picks

VanRoo plus picks ...for P1 ... huge cost ..and only could be done if Vanroo wants to go back to wa.

Perhaps he could be persuaded if he wants to play with his brother..and WC assure him that they will draft him.

Won’t get traded. Self interest and reputation is always #1 and list managers and clubs won’t do it. They are petrified of the risk when there’s a standout #1… what if he becomes the next Leigh Matthews or Gary Ablett? They’ll be forever the guy who traded him away and they’re petrified or that label for their career.

Same reason North picked JHF at #1 and didn’t entertain trading the pick, when they obviously should have.

Allen and Larkey are not similar at all.

Allen competes aerially. Larkey doesn't.
