I would've kept Ladhams because I like big man depth, but the reality is the idea of him outweighs his actual ability.

Poor mark, barely knows how to lead & a below average ruckman, his gift is agility for his size but if the rest doesn't improve he'll be delisted & playing at the Parade in the near future.

How can Ladhams be considered not good enough to play AFL when we have not one but two key forwards in our best 22 who are clearly and undeniably inferior to him?

Just think like a different coach for a sec here...
If you were Luke Beveridge would you play Todd.
The answer is no.
Todd needs to put some size on and work on his first 5-10 yards. Too slow as a lead up option. Not strong enough in contests. And fwiw his defensive efforts are slow too. Should not be in Ports first team.
And I like the lad and hope he does succeed... but he is honestly miles off

Beveridge is nursing a pick #1 supposed future superstar through games right now lol.

Ugle Hagen is averaging 6.8d and 1.3 goals a game. In a forward system that works in one of the best teams in the league. The dogs are carrying him, and rightly so, it will pay off down the track.

So yeah, if beveridge had our list the evidence says he would be playing Todd.

There’s no way Todd is too slow, he is much quicker than plenty of talls. you think he’s slow cause he isn’t often seen taking marks in 20m of space that doesn’t exist. Even when he magically found space we ignored him, like the time (boak I think?) ignored Marshall leading right in front of goals miles in front of his opponent to kick to sinn who was on the 50. Todd then gave a clear lead to sinn that was ignored.

There’s heaps of criticism of Todd that can and should be leveled at him but people are looking at the wrong things.

His hands have been poor. Can’t find a way to get into the game if he’s not being targeted. He’s playing the decoy and focusing on engaging his man so Mitch / other player can fly for the mark rather than going directly for the ball himself. He’s not at the drop of the ball enough too often getting there late. His confidence is shot. His goalkicking went from good to bombscare.

Todd was making strides last year but has regressed. That’s not a lack of talent, we’ve obviously ****ed up his development and he’s not strong enough to survive being hinkleyed.

He looked utterly lost in the backline tonight… I was calling for him to be tried down back last year - from what I saw tonight, this may not be an option at all!

Did he get a head knock? He looked like he was dazed and confused in that last qtr.

They have every right to. It’s a complete shambles out there and Hinkley is the dog in the kitchen that’s on fire saying word hardery.

Compare the delivery Mitch Lewis was getting last night to the delivery Todd (and Finlayson, and Georgiades) was getting. Swap their jumpers and Lewis would have done **** all while Todd snagged a few.

There is just zero point judging any of our key forwards while Bassett is at the club. It's only taken us two games to turn Finlayson from a two goal a game forward at GWS to a complete spud at Hinkley and Bassett's Port Adelaide.

There's certainly no guarantee Todd improves under a new coach, but I'm happy to give him and Finlayson the opportunity to do so. May as well delist them both if Hinkley and Bassett are still around next year though.

He needs to go back to the 2s, if for nothing more than some confidence.

Everyone knows his weaknesses - his lack of confidence magnifies it.

Bring in Hayes, he's a bigger body at the very least, and can also give Lycett a better chop out.

Whilst Finlayson hasn't set the world on fire either, he's new to the team and deserves a few more games to find his feet. If he doesn't get going by then, hopefully Todd will have found confidence in the SANFL and can slot back in.

The irony is that the two players who actually worked well under a Hinkley forward line, Wingard and Schulz, were basically pushed out by Ken.

why do we want players who kick goals in our forward line? They just highlight the rest of the guys deficiencies


even guys like SPP who used to have a crack from 50 out are now trained not to kick for goals........WTF

I was in this kids corner for a long time. I think some are too quick to attack young players in their first 50 games. Just look at a couple of posts re: Sinn already. Having now seen a lot of his games he isn't improving. It's time he showed more .

Because you can’t ignore the reality that holding Marshall out would have meant we played jake Neade or whoever the next Jake Neade is in his place. There’s been no gunstan or so on sitting in our sanfl side, and if there was all evidence says that in the same system he wouldn’t be the gunstan you know.

The overwhelming evidence is that Hinkley coaches a gameplan that is impossible for key forwards not named Dixon, and that we’re currently in the process of destroying the careers of Marshall, finlayson and possibly Georgiades.

He hasn't gone back to the 2s to learn his craft as a forward. I still believe that a major part of his problem is the big tick he receives from Ken for his performances.

I don't know if a forward actually exists that can be dominant against continual bombs anyway.

Marshall's best game imo was Round 1 2018 against Freo. He showed a lot of potential kicking 4 goals. He was lanky but we all assumed that he would naturally fill out and improve his conditioning as he matured and trained in a professional strength and conditioning environment. 4 years later he's still built like a skeleton and has achieved only 4 disposals in both of our games this year.

2021 was probably Marshall's most consistent season. He had a career high in average disposals (albeit only 10.7 per game) and played 20 games for 26 goals. At this stage of his development I would be hoping that he would be averaging about 15 disposals and 2 goals per game. If it's true that no other AFL clubs were chasing him, it beggars the question why we were soo quick to resign him for another 2 years until the end of 2024!? He still had a year left on his contract when we resigned him a few months ago for another two years.

Yes! He was a first round draft pick. Given his physical attributes the expectation would have been for him to become an elite key position player in the future. If he was a pick 84 like Billy Frampton the expectations wouldn't be anywhere near as high.

The physical attributes of only becoming a tall in his last year of under 18s after having a growth spurt late.

Added to our fitness department and coaches refusing to let him actually become AFL sized.
