I'm surprised noone is mentioning Stephenson.
Doesn't bring enough compared to others. His main selling point is speed, which we can get with Coffield and Fogarty, who are both stronger and better kicks than Stephenson
One word. Brayshaw. Gun. Best we can get at 6. We need to focus on drafting competitive animals that strive to get the best out of themselves.
Brayshaw will be gone by pick 6

Then one of the fab five drops
Although as a serious response I'd argue that the 'Fab Five' is over rated. LDU, Cerra and Dow are all on another level, clear top 3 in terms of ability for me. Rayner and Stepehenson are on the same level as Coffield, Fogarty, Higgins, Clark, O'Brien and Brayshaw but get hyped up because they have short bursts of brilliance, but neither can consistently affect a game like the others I mentioned.

There's a definite consensus on those 5 though and most have Rayner number 1

I'd be happy taking our chances with one of Hugh Dixon, Harrison Petty, Oscar Clavarino or even Charlie Ballard (195 cm not complaining) being available at pick 38 if it means we take someone like Coffield or Fogarty at pick 6.
Even Hayden McClean or Tom McCartin could be worth a punt at our later picks
If a midfielder was taken at 6 your right, Kpp next x2.
Agree with your suggested options and add Taylor and Kreugar as well.
Would need to use our 2nd and 3rd picks for Kpp in this scenario.

Rayner is the clear standout on top ability. In other words what he can do with a football is on another level. It's his consistency and tank that lets him down. For me it's a clear top four rather than five - LDU, Cerra and Dow - then the next batch is your Brayshaws, Coffields, Stephensons, Fogartys etc.

Agree to Disagree I guess. After watching Eastern Ranges vs Western Jets and seeing Stoddart do a job on Rayner I don't rate him nearly as highly, if someone like Stoddart (no disrespect intended) can shut him down then when he starts get any attention at AFL level on field he won't be able to deal with that either

Ryley Stoddart is a top 25 pick. One of the best two-way defenders in the crop. Probably better defensively than offensively.

I think it's a clear top two (Rayner and LDU) and then you can split the next 10 between players who are very solid now but query how well they'll do at AFL level (see Dow, Cerra, Brayshaw, Higgins) and guys who have lots of scope but also have been inconsistent or have significant deficiencies in their games (see Stephenson, Fogarty, Balta, O'Brien, Bonar etc).

I like Coffield because he doesn't seem to fit into either of those two categories. Ditto Fogarty if you make allowance for the injuries he was carrying this season.

3 weeks out:

Who I think we’ll pick: Naughton

Who I’d pick: Coff or Fog

Who I hope we pick: whoever turns out to be the best player from the draft

I think we’ll pick Coffield.

I would be quite happy with Coffield, Brayshaw or Cerra.

I would be comfortable with Brander or Fogarty as our picking them would give me confidence that their issues can be overcome.

Stephenson scares me, as does Naughton and Bonar.

Whats Hines prior form with top ten picks? He’s played a pretty straight bat on those rare occassions hasn’t he?
Thomas and Pendlebury were considered reaches. He was reportedly going to reach for Beams at 11 until Sidebottom became available. JDG was considered a reach at the time, with many considering him outside the top 10. Freeman shouldn’t have been top 10 but he was thereabouts in most rankings iirc. Scharenberg was a genuine top rated player that slid to 6. There’s a lot of reaching going on in that bunch of players.

I remember being furious when he picked Thomas and Pendles, and annoyed when he picked JDG. Honestly, if he reaches for a player at 6 this year who’s regarded as outside the top 10 at this stage I’ll put my wait and see hat on, because his record with early picks is pretty good, even if you want to count Freeman in there.
