I like him. I think he could come in and be competent on a wing.

I like the SSP thing we did. Use the draft for high ceiling guys and SSP for immediate competent depth who could become a bit better than that.
With the decline of sidey, he could be the one that could succeed him soon enough on the wing.

They take longer to be delisted. Do they take longer to become AFL standard if that's where they're heading?

Yeah, they do.

It’s all too easy to forget that AA Defender Darcy Moore started his AFL career in the forward line with mixed results, and it took a number of seasons before he settled down and became a valuable contributor behind the ball.

Allan and demattia are exactly why we are looking elsewhere to top up the list. Both are first rounders (technically) but there’s never any guarantees in the kids. And even if there are, outside of the top ones, they take time. We are in the window. Degoey, Moore etc are in their prime. We can’t wait for kids to develop, we need to make the most of the 27ish age group we have.
They might be many things, but not first rounders at picks 19 and 25 respectively. Certainly not the real first rounder over whom you feel a tingle in the groin akin to an orgasm just looking at the name in a top 10 list. Real top 10ers get games in their first year, and though their was fanciful talk before the season started about DeMattia playing early, that looks a very remote possibility now.

Supposedly a good runner and looks clean and a lovely kick who can be trusted with more than just long down the line.
A good runner and good use of the ball are definitely the things I noticed during his trial in pre-season.

I don't think that's a good example. Darcy was attacking contests like an AFL player and doing AFL things the moment he walked into the club. He was a crystal clear AFL tall from the start. His patchy returns were in the AFL. Not comparable to hesitant tall players who don't really look like they know what they're doing in the VFL.

Clubs used to draft every tall bloke who was a good athlete as a long term project even if they barely touched it in juniors. But nearly all of these long term project talls became long term delists, so clubs are now adding far fewer of them, because project tall was a euphemism for future delist.

Men don’t reach physical maturity until 23.
Nick Daicos, Matt Rowell, Harley Reid are freaks.
Sam Walsh is paying the price of being better than his body allows, re. his buggered back.
Look at Sheezel, Norf put him in a more accountable role and he no longer dominates.
Judge Jiath, DiMattia, Allen etc @ 22-23.
Everybody here needs to take a cold shower.

Normally 2nd year blues is when AFL teams put more work into a kid so he struggles a bit more at AFL level.

Havent heard 2nd year blues at VFL level before, that's a worry.
Well you wouldn't really, would you?

The majority of second year blues VFL players aren't spoken about until the end of the year when they're chopped.
