Twas the night before the draft & all through the board
Not a Dekka was stirring but Tradedraft was up & about
The stocks were applied, to that Anderson of course
In hopes that we would have a CEO that wouldn't blurt
The posters were restless in anticipation of hurt
While visions of 2 min vids made everyone an expert.
But l am, just listen to me not.

Apart from his injury riddled year, and the fact that he is being drafted on potential not performance, Fogarty seems the obvious choice, but it's not the kind of selection you really want to make at pick 6. We took Scharenberg at pick 6 whose toes were subsequently all but amputated. Why not take someone this time with a clean bill of health? Or is pick 6 going to become our Groundhog Day, destined to repeat the same error again and again and again?
Fogarty has a clean bill of health.

Really? His season wasn't all but blighted by a knee injury that required weekly strapping?
Which he has had surgery on, and has recovered from. He has a clean bill of health. A stark contrast to Scharenberg, who was recruited knowingly having feet issues that would impact his preseason and possibly require surgery.

Fogarty will have a full preseason and be available for selection in round 1, barring any injuries sustained in the preseason, which applies to any player equally.

But it's possible his meniscus will tear again and again? Why not select a players whose meniscus has never shown any sign of wear, let alone tear? Someone who is yet to feel the restriction that meters of tight padding place on a knee? Someone whose tendons, muscles and bones are all moving in the same worry free direction. You can add heart to that list too.

You can have it completely removed.

It’s possible anyone’s meniscus can tear. Afaik it’s not an injury that is prone to reoccurrence, and given that he played through it for much of the year, I’d say it’s relatively minor.
Honestly, by the logic you’re using here we may as well never draft any player who’s ever had an injury, regardless of severity.

Someone needs to play devil's advocate in this murky draft.

Fogarty or Naughton would be perfect fits. Aside from Rayner and Davies-Uniacke the rest of the top midfielders look dime a dozen. Given that Maynard will be transitioning into the middle, where Treloar, Pendles, Sidebutt, Adams, Wells, JDG etc currently reside, I don't see the need for another one to clog up the pack.

It's down to 4 by all accounts, Cerra or Brayshaw if they drop... Fogarty or Stephenson if the don't

Hope this guy is right about our two default choices

If the club has done its due diligence and establishes Stephenson’s heart is not a big deal I think he is the one we should go for.
It’s very rare that you get a player who has elite endurance and speed who is proven as a forward but when tried as a midfielder can rack up 30 ps a game. What’s even more impressive is his best games have been on the biggest stage. He has alot of filling out to do so there is also a big upside. While is kicking needs work the 2 best players imo in the Comp if fit are danger and Fyfe. Their kicking is not ideal either. Stephenson’s goal kicking looks really good to me it’s just his field kicking.

But the kicker for me is the kids attitude , confidence and personality. Watching his interviews he seems a really relaxed easy going kid with plenty of belief. This is huge in professional sport and is probably a big reason why he has performed so well when under the spotlight. Some kids go to water in big games because they can’t handle the pressure. This kid clearly can.

Obviously they need the heart issue to check out but the kid smashed it in the yo yo test so how bad can it be? It’s just a matter of finding out if his meds have much of an effect and if they don’t the he would imo be a good choice.

The fog looks good but his inability to get near albeit not that fit concerns me. Some blokes play through pain and still have a impact while others need to be 100% to have an impact.

We will know tonight

Are you referring to fitness as 'free from injury'? Or just general fitness?

Apparently the Fog performed ok in the time trials for a big man.
