When ya get to a certain age in your career Kenny decides you have to play out of position and completely destroy a couple of seasons
Yep and the obligatory Hinkley dip years even when you are playing in the right position.. or is that the hardery longery burn out years?

How is it not tampering?
They're separate to each other. The competition is moving towards using salary cap as a bargaining tool for trades given they approved the Bowes deal. Another way could be to do the Shiel deal with St Kilda's pick 12 before lodging the paperworks for Gresham. That way, the two deals are unrelated.

I imagine some rule will be introduced if Essendon exploit this loophole in both the McKay and Gresham contracts.

Having a terrific season so far. Found his role with the new midfield brigade I think.
I think he had three holding the ball tackles didn't he?

He and Drew have both been fantastic this year, unselfishly taking reduced roles and doing the grunt work that allows Rozee/Butters/JHF to fully display their talents. Impressive to see the lack of ego from a guy who won a Brownlow just two seasons ago to take on this reduced role and do great work in it.

Parks himself over the ball and feeds it out, and runs on providing spread an option. He's been massive this past month.

Clearly getting the midfield right in terms of the inside/outside balance.

If they're going to play well in finals his play on the inside of the contest is going to be absolutely crucial.

You want Wine and Drew dishing it out to Rozee and Butters and the Hornet doing what he likes,

last 2 weeks he's been back to his brownlow form. the most important player in the carlton win by beating cripps and walsh to every significant ground ball, and didn't relent tonight. he's 29, no premiership, and the competition right now is wide open. this is hinkley's port so losing every final is always a strong possibility, but i don't believe we're gonna see wines drop in form from now until our final game this year. he's on a mission.

I wonder if he’ll play like this this in the showdown. He normally gets embarrassed in those games.

His last two weeks have been very good. If he and drew can maintain this standard we may win the next three including a showdown.

No coincidence that wines finding form has resulted in our decent run of form as a team. We are a very difficult team to beat when our clearance and pressure game is up and running and wines at his best makes this happen. It enables our other better users of the ball to front run a bit more.

This!

Rozee and Butters are pretty slight of framed players. They are rarely if ever going to be the ones who can win a 50/50 ball against the big bruisers of the competition (like Bontempelli) when the game is on the line in the finals. But they have elite speed and can explode from the stoppage better than anyone else in the game.

Wines and Drew playing at their current level allows the aforementioned to play more on the outside where their talents are best used.
