Pick no. 9 On the Table

DAVID HALE - NO, NO, NO.

I like Nathan Brown, Alipate Carlise and Mat Warnock because I think we needs a geniune defender, dont care if he never touches the ball, a Presti type. I think those three fit that bill well.

Can't help but think Melbourne and Essendon are the place to look as both have an extensive list of young tall defenders.

Urgh.. so many average, average names are being thrown into the circle.

Tbh, our defence problems are potentially long-lasting, but atm are temporary. I think that means someone like Tarrant is a good option.

If there was a chance of keeping pick 9 & selecting Talia (backman) in this draft and perhaps trading second/third round + players for a Tarrant, I would like to see everything happen for that to occur.

I know theere are glaring player types to fill but for mine one of the biggest areas lacking was the one that Dew filled - the composure at key times. Missed it badly at times this year.

If that person is also a key defender then so be it

I am interested in Nathan Brown from Collingwood I think that might be a good option.

Collingwood like their mobile backs and seem content to use Leigh Brown as their monster while providing back up rucking for Fraser.

I would make a play at him would Collingwood's main target be tall forwards? Probably. Would they look at Dowler or Thorp? Hard to know.

Maybe package up one with a 3rd round pick.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this in other threads, but what about Pearce or Salopek from Port?

The way I see it, our priorities should be a key position defender and a quick outside mid. Young, Bateman and Rioli are the only genuine quicks in the team and they need a friend.

We really have enough youth in the team, thanks to smart recruiting and using all our draft picks in previous years; and topping up with 17 year olds in 08. Shiels, Savage, Schoenmakers have shown enough for me, would like to see more or Milne though.

Pearce would come cheap, is young and a former rising star winner. Plus, with the retirement of Lade and Port having no real back-up to Brogan, might give us the opportunity to offload some dead weight (Taylor).

Taylor + 2nd Rounder to Port for Pearce
Thorpe + Pick 9 for B. Lake OR Thorpe for Marcus Drum

Thoughts?

if there was absolutely any chance of picking up sandilands then go for it.

how many goals did we get this year from centre bounce clearances? this is a big weakness imo. can you imagine how good our midfield could be with an elite ruckman?

Of course we have to try to trade pick 9.

Hawks don't win another premiership until either:

- T. Croad is back fit and firing (not 2010, doubtful at all)
- R. Shoenmakers is big and experienced enough to be no. 1 KP defender (at least 2011, prob 2012 - do we want to wait that long?)
- We trade for a genuine KP defender

If we want a premiership in 2010 or 2011 we need to trade pick 9 (and whatever else it takes) for one of:

Lake (unlikely)
Bock (unlikely)
Tarrant (my pick because unlike the others it may work)

Alternatively we need to make a play for say N. Brown or McGuire with a 2nd round pick or a middle range player.

If the Hawks don't throw everything at a KP defender, I will be very disappointed.

You know what? You're absolutely right!

We won't win the premiership next season if we don't have a KP defender. It's as simple as that. I think we can still be very competitive but to take that cup we'll need Croad up and going or converseley, someone else.

We should be going bonkers to secure someone in trade week, the alternative is failure.

What about Mith Brown from WC? He's a good size (194cm, 94kg), has played 25 games and is versatile, we would be able to swap him forward with Rough if match ups werent going our way.
Would our 3rd pick be enough to get the Eagles to bite? Then we keep #9 to pick up the best available mid in the draft.
He's young and could grow with the rest of our list.....

Clubs just don't trade required players like Mitch Brown from WCE. That kid is a gun and won't be going anywhere.

Be good to pick up some depth players for nothing or next to nothing ie Roe, Coad, Mcguire.

Tarrant, Moore, Macguane we might be able to get for our second round plus a player if it was Macguane

Or trade pick 9 for a gun like Lake, Chaplin.

Assuming Croad doesn't get back, we must fill this hole in our team over the off season.

Rate the kid really highly.

Pick 9 and Williams??? Yes I know it would be sad to see willow go but his knees are becoming problematic and I believe we can fill his spot without to much trouble.

Did I mention M.Brown is a gun!!!

Keeping willo is a must... our forward line needs him.

When our defence is strong... our mids trust them more so are required to push back less... and thus can more readily push forward and from there... delivery in the forward line will improve... willo is a good player

I think going for tarrant is our best bet atm. Lake... will require us to give up something big. I'm not ready to part with a player of roughy's or lewy's nature. Tarrant is older but showed he is class at the back... in a team that were smashed many many times.
I think he would play for us too... because he knows that the hawks are a premiership threat in the next few years! and that freo won't be needing him in a few years.

Chaplin btw is not worth pic 9... he is not a GUN player yet.

Would love Mitch Brown, but WC would want alot more than our 3rd pick for him, and rightly so. He was a 1st Rounder IIRC, and is coming along beautifully.

I reckon Thorp + pick 9 for Lake; or pick 25 for Tarrant. Or make a play for another young defender ie. Macguane.

Offer pick 9 for Lake and a sweetner. But we should be looking at our PSD. Imagine this forward line (courtesy Poison on HHQ)

Williams - Roughead - Hall
Robertson - Franklin - Rioli

No thanks, think we are rough enough without Hall and robertson is a bit old for my liking. Imagine this forward line

Hodge - Franklin - Bateman

Osborne - Dowler - Rioli

Where is Roughy? He is at CHB for now, but can go forward. Dowler can kick straight and has good hands, put on a couple kgs over summer and he should play forward

We have a lead up half forward in Hodge. Pick up tarrent or goose macguire, trade 2nd pick + Thorp for a ruck and use pick 9 on midfielder. Then take home the silverware

i like hodgey in the midfield... he is strong and tough...

i like rough in the forward line too...

I'd prefer my forward line to me

Dowler Franklin Cyril
Williams Roughy Osborne
