Watson (have to keep opening til Ponting or Hussey Retire)
Hughes (will make runs against Kiwis and save himself)
Usman/Marsh (depends on what Usman does this test will need big score)
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin (wont make runs against the Indians, should be Wade)
Harris
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon

We better start praying Starc gets better or the selectors see some sense. Siddle and Johnson were bad together, Starc and Siddle look like they will be the same.

Not sure what siddle wrong in the last test match you speak of? Was clearly our best bowler in the 1st inning and was good in 2nd inning. Also bowled very economical.

Starc looked a clone of Johnson but give him a go, its only his first game.

What it should be imo

Assuming they are so desperate for an all rounder that we shaft someone to make way. Starc will play now I don't think Harris will get up.

The burning question is what to do with Marsh? I guess if fit he replaces Warner but that is not ideal.

Who will open?

Will Ponting still be there?

Will Harris ever be fit? What is the pecking order of the other quicks?

For mine:

Watson
Marsh
Khawaja
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Siddle
Cummins
Starc
Lyon

Obviously, either of Hughes and Warner could book a spot with a big score against the Kiwis.

Thoughts?

You're a funny guy. I thought you were a Warner fan. Anyway it will depend on who is available. Although as we discussed there are plently of other options available if the test started tomorrow. Give Christian a go.;)

Hughes and Warner should not be in the squad. Hughes is damaged goods now and Warner is a poster boy who shouldn't be playing test match cricket.

If all are available it's not who should be in but who else to leave out.

Watson
Khawaja
S. Marsh
Clarke
M Hussey
M Marsh
Wade
Siddle
Starc
Pattinson
Lyon

If Punter makes some big runs today it might save him.

Oh and BTW this thread (YOUR THREAD) is littered with possible replacements in the squad and opening the batting. I hope you're listening.

Our best side:

Watson
Cowen
Marsh
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Wade
Cutting
Pattinson
Siddle
Lyon

Hughes and Warner aren't ready. Khawaja has got to 50 once in 6 tests, people can pull themselves off over his technique all day long, he's gotta make runs. Go back and make a few more runs in Shield and come back when Punter retires.

Starc will get dropped surely

I'd agree...but for who? Cutting is out for the season, ditto Cummins and Harris is injured. Copeland MAYBE but jeez he has barely been getting wickets, Hazelwood is not ready!

anyone know the latest status on harris and watto?

God let's hope so. I think he has potential but looking at India's top 6 he will be nothing but cannon fodder. Especially if the ball doesn't swing.

Here's hoping Ryan Harris is fit:thumbsu:

He hasn't troubled the Kiwis in the slightest. The Indians will absolutely rip him to pieces. Never should have been selected, has potential but so far off Test level ATM.

If we assume that Harris, Watson & Marsh will be fit for the Boxing Day test then it comes down to who scores the most runs out of Warner, Hughes & Khawaja..

Watson
Warner/Hughes/Khawaja
Marsh
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Siddle
Harris
Pattinson
Lyon

Over the next 12-18 months expect Cummins to replace either Siddle or Harris, Hussey & Ponting to probably move on when a youngster shows some solid form & Haddin to be replaced by Wade.

We should have a fairly solid side in a few years with clarke back to being the weak link.

If Warner goes on with it tomorrow, you'd expect him to be retained for Boxing Day.

Cutting isn't out for the season. Should be back playing early in the new year. He won't be ready for any test match cricket though.

Yes so again I ask...if Starc goes out who comes in...and if you say Dan Christian I will slap you!

It could be George, Bollinger, Copeland, Hazelwood, Hilfenhaus or Faulkner??

Christian is an all rounder.

George- LOL...you serious?
Bollinger- injured
Copeland- yes but he hasn't got many wickets in FC level this year.
Hazelwood- not ready.
Hilfy- normally I'd agree, but I don't see the point, it would be a backwards step.
Faulkner- just no, he is a better batsman than bowler.

I'd take any one of them over Starc at this point. LOLZ all you like.

I would take a bowler over your list. As I said I just cannot see who is better, and Starc has potential in Melbourne and Perth to do very well.
