Scott was okay but didn't do anything that particularly stood out to me. Can't see him being more than depth long term but still very, very early days.

Dale in defence seriously shocked me tonight. I was open to the idea but had my doubts, and he's blown them away. Showed real aggression, took opponents on and really helped with our rebound. I like it.

McNeil had his moments but made a few costly mistakes. He will make a good player in time, but may need some time in the VFL for a little while.

I'd be bringing Scott out for JJ (supposedly played well today) or Wood, and McNeil out for West. No further changes unless there's injuries

Starting two debutants in a huge first game of the year? Perfectly sane and fine.

Starting a 2020 #1 pick, a 2019 #13 pick, a current best 22 player and a gun VFL small forward? Totally insane and inept. We're much better off continuing to play midfielder and defenders up forward, because its worked to well for us over the last 5 years...

That’s back to back clangers from you Herlag.

Perfect night for footy and to score only ten goals in a win is a concern but as stated it is round one and a win is one less we need to conjure up later on. Kicking in parts was atrocious ...on both sides but a top 4 side will make us pay. I liked the good Tim but the old one popped back in from time to time.

The crowd was odd. I reckon the pies didnt take as many seats as we thought and I reckon this blitzkrieg of ticket purchases at a set time on a confusing website is to blame. Hopefully we see an increase in numbers that can attend and relaxing the process.

Good win from the boys and I’ll take it!!
should of won by more but we have the 4 points.

If hunter cleans up his kicking it will go along way instead of slamming it on his boot!

McNiel got into the right spots but he didn’t play the best game! Got done holding the ball a few times and shanked a few kicks that could of set up goals. I honestly think he thought he had more time then what he did a few times and didn’t realise the speed of AFL.

Smith and Martin are going to be huge this year.

So when you have no argument, you bring out the mindless "clanger" label?

It’s hard to argue with someone who wants players selected based on their draft position and the fact they’ve played goodfootball at a lower level (the level they’ve played at for 3 years prior to being drafted because no club wanted to draft them).

And what exactly do you want players being picked on?
What did McNeil and Scott do to merit being picked for their debuts in a huge round 1 game?

I want players picked on ability, and I also want them picked for positions they're good at. The last 4 years have clearly shown Beveridge has gotten forward structure badly wrong, and tonight has not marked any change to that notion.

Agree to disagree with everything you’ve just said. No, awareness on a footy field is something I’d like in a defender..

My post wasn’t an opinion. That’s what playing in defence is all about. If you can kill the aerial contest, you do it.

Lack of awareness is a defender spoiling a teammate who’s in a position to take an uncontested mark. Never seen Gardiner do that.

As I said. It’s the absolute basics of footy. Sorry D ftw!!

Maybe ask the match committee, who would know infinitely more about players form than you or I.

Who here once said Scott’s game wasn’t up fo it? For someone that sooks his eyes out when misquoted, god you do it often. It’s laughable.
Anyone who has ever seen a footy match knows Dale was much more impactful than Scott. Looking at purely stats is a moronic way to judge. The contests Bailey impacted and his willingness and aggressiveness was what held him far ahead of Scott today.
Scott also wasn’t that bad for a debutant.

MD hates stats unless he can use them to defend his shitty take on the game.

Another mare from MD and it’s only Rd1. Gonna be a looooooooong year for him.

Hagan better be in next week.
I literally get angry when Bruce stuffs it up now.

I’m sure his a lovely guy outside of footy but surely he knows his times up or the club taps his shoulder.

Only one disappointment. If we had have scored one more behind, we would have been top of the ladder. As it is now, we are only 2nd. Still topp 2 is not too bad.....;)

Just came back from the game. Bailey Smith my best, followed by English, thought he was the difference up forward and Caleb. He just steadies us. Hunter gave them 2 goals tonight, close to dropped after that for mine, terrible night

Thankfully the match committee choices doesn't disqualify anyone from having an opinion.

In my opinion, forwards should be selected to play forward. Hawthorn won three flags with Breust, Rioli and Puopolo up forward, not Mitchell, Lewis and Sewell. Same story with Richmond.

What's so crazy about playing someone like Weightman or Cavarra up forward? As opposed to someone like Ed Richards, who our coach has desperately been trying to convert into a forward for some reason.

Vandermeer will be a seriously good player, already a good one. Has a real aggression and attack every time he is involved, with skills to match.

Pies challenged tonight but every time they did, we were able to withstand.

Look at the disposal count. We had the top 9 tonight. Ridiculous.

Tonight reinforced My belief that Naughts goes back. Gardner played his best game but I prefer a key back who can mark and not kill the ball. Moore was just amazing, saved multiple goals and created scoring opportunitie. Naughts can be as good as Moore and with JUH a looking good I don’t think we lose much forward. We will only be able to challenge with a great interceptor like Moore.

Scott was ok but JJ and Richards are far better while West should be ahead of Mcneil
